Baekhee is naturally social and friendly, she gets along easily with others because she can hold a conversation so well. She is a very loyal friend that will have your back even when you're wrong and expects the same from you. She likes to dream about the possibilities of things and likes to talk to her friends about these possibilities. She is open about sharing her hopes and dreams and complimenting others that she thinks are good. She comes off as a very sweet person that loves to laugh when you first get to know her.

But Baekhee has a bad side too. Since she wants to be liked she will kiss up to people that she wants to like her and depend her mood on what they say or how they treat her. Her mood can change very fast just by one thing someone says. It's very obvious when her mood changes too because the way she acts and talks changes, she's not good at acting like she's happy. If she gets good reviews she'll be happy, but if she gets bad reviews she'll obsess over how to fix it and be what people want her to be.

She's observant so she takes little things people do personally. Her insecure side makes her misinterpret people's actions and words so she ends up thinking they don't like her. She has a bad gossiping habit and when she thinks you don't like her, she'll cry to her friends about it making you seem like a bad person even though it was just a misinterpretation on her part. 

She victimizes herself more often than not too. She'd point out how people weren't there for her or people look down on her when a lot of it is in her head. Instead of telling her problems she would say she's okay and suffer alone because she doesn't think anyone would understand. She automatically thinks she's alone in the world and everyone is doing so much better than she is like she's just a big burden and the people that help her only pity her. She also has a huge jealous streak that'll cause her to be petty or sarcastic to people just because she's jealous of them.

It's been a long time since Baekhee has been like that though. Recently she's been feeling good and happy. She smiles so much more now and enjoys the little things in life since she doesn't have people watching her every move and judging her. Since she went to therapy for her eating disorder, she's learned not to care so much about what other people think and to just be happy on her own. But being on a show where there will be articles about her with thousands of comments, it may cause her to go into old habits again.

BackgroundWhat was their childhood like? what happened to make them who they are today?

Baekhee is from the countryside, Pohang city in North Gyeongsang Province. She is the oldest of two, her younger sister Baekmi is a year younger than her. Her parents worked low paying jobs, her dad was an ironworker and her mom was a housekeeper. Besides struggling financially, her family life was eh. She had a normal childhood, it wasn't very complicated. As the eldest daughter she got pressured to get good grades so she could be a good example for her sister but her grades weren't very good. She wasn't a good studier so she argued with her parents a lot about it. Her sister got better grades than her so their parents compared them.

Since Baekhee wasn't expected to get a good job because of her bad grades she started working part time to help pay for her sister to go to Hagwon. She helped at the docks before school and went to school smelling like fish. She remembers how much she hated that job and she hated her parents even more for making her do it but more than that she hated herself for being so stupid. Her friends were embarrassed to hang with her because she smelled bad and other classmates made fun of her too. That was the hardest time of her life. 

Music is what kept her going, she fantasized about becoming an idol before but didn't have the money to go to an academy. The only dancing and singing she did was secretly in her room or with her friend. After starting work her friend group turned into one friend named Haeyeol. She was her only loyal friend and certified fangirl. They fangirled about so many boy groups during that time like Beast, Teentop and Infinite. She wasn't a fan of girl groups because she was envious that they were loved and living a life of luxury while she was there. Her favorite groups of all was FTIsland and CNBlue, she loved the whole band thing. So in 2010, she took the train during school hours to her first ever audition at FNC Entertainment. Although she didn't make it the first time it didn't stop her from trying out 7 more times that same year.

She was on the verge of giving up her friend told her about a new boy group she knew she'd love it and it was B1A4's debut song OK in 2011. She was right, she did love it and it didn't take her long to become a Bana. That year instead of trying for FNC she tried out for WM Entertainment and she actually passed becoming a trainee at 16.

Parents | Hwang Chansung and Jang Kyungri | 55 and 52 | Ironworker and Seamstress | Baekhee's relationship with her parents is a rocky one. They didn't support her becoming an idol because she would have to leave the family and dorm. That meant she would stop making money to pay for her sister's Hagwon. Baekhee was offended that they worried about that they worried about that instead of her happiness, she always felt secondary to her sister. In order to pay for her Hagwon they actually took out many loans so they had a bigger debt. Baekhee also accumulated 4 years of debt as a trainee and by the time she left Primrose she wasn't able to fully pay it back because they weren't that famous yet. The only time Baekhee feels that her parents really cared for her was when she got diagnosed with Anorexia but even then she felt like she was just being a burden. Her parents do care though, they got into so much debt paying for Baekmi's college and Baekhee's medical payments. Her mom got a job working from home as a seamstress instead to take care of her too but Baekhee still sees it as they don't care. When she was still trying to recover from her eating disorder, she told her mom not to worry and she'll die soon so she won't have to waste anymore money. That night her mom cried so much when no one was around at the thought of losing her. She cares so much she just doesn't know how to express it, same with her dad. Her parents are just happy that Sandeul is such a good boyfriend to her and only want the best for her and her health.

Younger Sister | Hwang Baekmi | 26 | Office Worker | Faceclaim: Twice Dahyun | Baekmi is the pride of the family, after graduating from SNU she got a job at a well known company as a marketing specialist. She puts in 12 hours a day and sometimes 6 days a week but the pay is good. She lives in her own apartment in Seoul now. She's someone that is well liked among her peers and popular with the guys too but she doesn't care about that. Growing up her and Baekhee weren't close but after Baekhee got sick she tries to reach out to her often and hang out. Baekhee hates that her sister is a favorite and that she paid off a lot of their parents debt. She's convinced that Baekhee is constantly trying to one up her when she really isn't. Deep down Baekmi wishes that her sister liked her because she wants a best friend to confide in and talk about her uality troubles to. Baekhee thinks she's living the happiest life as the pretty and smart sister but she really isn't. She struggles in silence though.

Best Friend | Kim Haeyeol | 27 | Cafe Manager | Faceclaim: Kim Sejeong | Haeyeol has been best friends with Baekhee since primary school. To Baekhee, Haeyeol is more of a sister to her than Baekmi. She's the one that she tells everything to because though the hard times when Baekhee lost her friends, she's the one that stayed. Haeyeol still lives in Pohang but will travel to Seoul if Baekhee needs her and texts back super fast even at work. Haeyeol supports even her bad decisions and agrees with all her delusions because that's her best friend she'll always take her side. She's the unintentional devil on her shoulder while Sandeul is the angel. If Baekhee wants to do something without Sandeul knowing she can count on Haeyeol to keep it a secret. She's loud with a short temper and isn't afraid to neglect her job for her friend.

Old Groupmates | Primrose | Baekhee doesn't talk to Primrose, she hasn't since she left the group. She didn't have any bad blood with them, it's just her jealousy didn't allow her to. Whenever they reached out to her with warm messages she sent them back cold replies until they eventually stopped checking in. Back then her members were there for her when she needed them, but Baekhee feels that they were just pitying her because she wasn't as beautiful as them. She constantly compared herself to them so even her doctor though it would be best for her to stay away. Baekhee still keeps up with the latest news on the girls though sometimes, still imagining how her life would be different if she was able to stay in the group longer. Sometimes Baekhee has the urge to reach out to them now that she's better but she thinks they're way too above her now and don't want to hear from her. Sandeul thinks she should reach out but she tells him not to mention her around them. They don't even know they're dating.

Boyfriend | Lee Junghwan (Sandeul) | 30 | Member of B1A4 and Soloist, Currently Completing Military Service As A Social Worker | Baekhee was a fan of Sandeul since she discovered B1A4. He was her favorite because she loved his voice and cute glasses in the OK mv. When she became a trainee they were already debuted so they didn't have much interactions besides a senior junior relationship. Baekhee would clearly get nervous around the boys when they came around especially Sandeul. They never really talked until he reached out to her after finding out she was in the hospital. It was her old bandmate that was a WM trainee with her that reached out to him and asked him to send her a nice message so she can recover quickly, something she actually doesn't know. When he sent her a text he didn't expect them to have a long conversation but they actually went on talking for days after that. When she was in the hospital it was his texts that kept her company and made her happy. She refused to let him see her though because she didn't want him to see her like that. Sandeul really started to care if she was doing well and wanted to see her recover.

They didn't meet in person until months after when he went to Pohang to meet her while she was going through out patient treatment again. Baekhee was really self conscious meeting him but he managed to make her feel comfortable and happy. He was just how she imagined him to be in her head since she was 16. A silly ball of sunshine, but he also has a strict and caring side too. Sandeul helped her a bunch throughout her recovery time, she felt safe to tell him things and even when he was busy he made time for her. A lot of the time he couldn't be there physically so they worked out together on videochat and cooked together and ate together. Even when he was busy she would send him a video of her cooking instead. 

It wasn't until a year later did they start dating and she moved in with him three months later because she thought she'd be happier with him. She was right too. He was a great help to her, he attended her therapy sessions with her to learn more about how to help and made sure to follow the nutritionist instructions all the way. He didn't make her feel like a burden like her parents, he actually enjoyed seeing her do well. Everything they did on videochat they weere able to do in person and it was 10x better.

Since he was still an active idol, she was left alone often but he tried his best to make sure she doesn't feel lonely.  Even when she was struggling or frustrated he managed to calm her down instead of just making her more frustrated like her parents. But her sickness made him really paranoid, whenever she doesn't answer her phone he calls a friend to check up on her and he doesn't want her looking at negative things that might trigger her. Even with her being fully recovered now part of him is scared it'll come back. With Primrose reaching new heights in 2020 with Eung Eung and Stay This Way, Baekhee saw them everywhere and couldn't help but think about being an idol. In mid 2020 she successfully recovered from her eating disorder so with that out the way she started thinking about her original dream. When she heard about Produce Angel, she thought about joining for a long time. She knows Sandeul wouldn't like it because he'd be worried about her so that's why she decided to join without telling him. Either way, he's serving his military service now giving her enough time to complete the show and have the good news that she made it to the debut lineup before he even finishes. If it all goes smoothly at least.

Baekhee trained at WM for 4 years before making her debut. She struggled to get recognition during training and was told many times that she wasn't as talented as other trainees. Trainees that were newer than her got praised before she did, she doesn't remember getting praised at all so when she didn't get chosen for Oh My Girl it wasn't a surprise. The CEO of WM was friends with the CEO of a smaller agency called Starlite Entertainment that was looking for trainees to debut a new group. So he transferred a few trainees from WM to Starlite and Baekhee was one of them. She trained 6 months under Starlite then made her debut in Primrose with the song Candy Jelly Love. 

The girls had a variety of weight, some were naturally skinnier than others although Baekhee was noticably bigger than her members during promotions. She isn't the type to lose weight easily, instead she gets bloated and gains easily. The girls weren't very popular so it wasn't like she was getting a ton of hate, but the few comments that mentioned it were enough for her to notice. Either way the girls were gaining a steady fanbase for their young and cheerful songs and vibes.

During their 5 month preparation period for their comeback, Baekhee was focused on losing weight. All the girls were on a diet that was sustainable with how much they danced but Baekhee took it to another level. Everytime she looked back at old photos she got triggered by how fat she was and started hating how she looked. She didn't bother to tell her other members because she didn't think they'd understand since they all had nicer bodies than her. She thought about the comments she used to get and wanted to be beautiful for their new etheral style comeback. So she starved herself for the last 2 months and lost nearly 9kg, she only ate protein if she had to and anytime she thought she ate too much she threw up.

When Primrose came back with Ah Choo, it did a lot better than Candy Jelly Love so it helped increased their popularity. Baekhee had an obvious weight transformation and she was ready to confidently show off her new visuals but a week into promotions her energy was lacking, in one particular performance she looked weak and after that performance she went to the hospital because she was feeling unwell. There she was diagnosed with Anorexia and an esophagus infection. When she left the hospital she was assigned out patient monitoring meaning that she would get regular check ups. In an interview she admitted to starving herself because she wanted to look prettier and promised to gain weight so fans won't worry.

When Primrose began promoting their new album, she didn't gain any of the weight back. Her Anorexia helped bring a lot of attention to the group, everyone started to discuss their weight and many articles were written about it. Instead of it being a time when Baekhee got praised for her weight loss, other members were praised for their amazing body proportions and some were complimented for their weight loss. Baekhee felt betrayed because when she lost weight she barely got praise, instead everyone focused on her Anorexia but other members were praised for their weight loss. Though Primrose gained popularity, Baekhee had the smallest fanbase and she couldn't help but felt jealous of her other members.

Baekhee still didn't gain weight as promised when DKDK was released, she actually lost a little weight in hopes of getting praised but not many noticed. She was the focal point of this comeback because of her cute expressions. It made her become more recognized so her fanbase grew. Despite looking more frail than before, her Anorexia seemed to have become a thing of the past because no one talked about it, they all forgot. They only mentioned how well she fit the concept.

Nearly 2 months had passed and Primrose had another comeback, Fun. Baekhee gained some weight going back to being healthy and was looking more joyful than ever. She finally began to show more confidence in her body because of her growing fanbase and all the positive feedback she got from the public. Even her fans wondered if this was a new beginning for her, an era where she could start over and become a new person. But when netizens noticed her weight gain they began to criticize her. They said she gained weight to fast and was chubby, they were worried that she would become fat. It was like it was happening all over again and it broke her down. All the confidence she built up broke, she became more timid on interviews and often hunched over or hid behind members. She lost the shine that she had before because she didn’t appear to be as happy and joyful as her other members. She was ashamed of her body again so she purposefully tried to cover herself up.

Her mental health was at an all time low, they had two months to prepare for their next comeback and  her Anorexia came back but she hid it well. She ate with the members or the food the staff gave but secretly threw it all up. By then she stopped going to out patient monitoring too because it was assumed she was better. However she was basically only surviving off water and starving herself again. She was even afraid water would cause her to gain weight.

When they had their 5th comeback Love Bomb, Baekhee lost 13kg so she was 42kg and as frail as ever. She was looking scarily thin and frail but everyone assumed she would gain it all back like she did before. Love Bomb was the group’s 2nd biggest hit so they were often performing and promoting the song. The concept fit her well because it was the cute concept they were known for though as weeks went by Baekhee's skin had gone sickly pale and her hair started to look thin and brittle. On stage she looked tired and worn out so now netizens started to criticize her again. They called her weight loss “ugly” and “disgusting” while others called it a “work of art” “perfect”. Her fans began to worry about her because she looked unstable and faint on stage. Only two weeks after their comeback Starlite pulled Baekhee from promoting and prohibited her from leaving the hospital because she passed out during practice. They already had their suspicions since staff caught her throwing up again but she used food poisoning as an excuse.

For nearly 6 months Baekhee was unheard from, she had disappeared from all camera and news outlets and people started to forget about her. She was already the least popular so there concern died down quickly. She was busy recovering and trying to gain weight in a healthy way. She was constantly in and out of the hospital so when Primrose came back once again with Boogie Up, Baekhee did not participate in this comeback however the members made sure to reassure everyone that she was still part of the group. They constantly mentioned her to try and keep her image alive. The company was open to her rejoining group activities if the hospital approved and she showed improvement. But her Anorexia never went away, even if she did gain weight her mentality didn't change. The cycle continued because she would view herself as ugly all over again, the hate comments haunted her.

Since she wasn't getting any better, on October 30 2016 Starlite announced that her condition had not gotten better. It took a lot of convincing but Baekhee and the company had come to mutual agreement stating that she should leave to focus on her health. Her contract was terminated and she officially departed from the group. She posted a handwritten letter onto a fancafe thanking everyone for letting her live out her dreams. She thanked the fans and members for loving her dearly and always supporting her. She also apologized for leaving but announced she hoped everyone will remember her for her vibrant and cheerful self.
