T.B. Solangel's April Loves Black Coffee Series (Conversations Between Us)

As much as I like writing, I like reading just as much. I love reading anything from fanfics, to books of poetry, to mystery, to down right novels. And I just thought I'd share something I've recently read (more like re-read). The fanfic-turned-novel written by T.B. Solangel was called Conversations Between Us (or aka Conversations Between a Gentlemen and a Lady) but is now known as April Loves Black Coffee.

It was a very famous story in 2003 on soompi and from there it took a life of its own. I didn't get my hands on the story until late 2011/early 2012, and I honestly regret not reading it earlier. It has everything a good story needs; original characters, captivating storyline, a thrilling romance journey, and the right amount of action and rough-housing. I instantly fell in love with it the second I started reading. (I thank my good friend from my school club for introducing me to the fic.) Honestly, this story was so raw and so emotionally realistic and captivating that I couldn't NOT fall in love with each characters. Solangel's writing was also so distinct and different from a lot of other stories I've ever read and it only added to the originality and authencity of the story itself. It took me about 4 days of back to back reading (in between school and work, of course) to finish the entire story and quite honestly, I was an emotional wreck by the time I flipped (scrolled) onto the last page. I lost track of how many tissue boxes I had gone through. To say that the story touched a part of my non-existent soul so an understatement.

Now fast forward a few years to 2014/2015... (And why I am writing this review)

I was ecstatic to find out that Solangel decided to publish Conversations Between Us because I felt as though this beautiful piece of art needed a bigger audience and more acknowledgement. I bought the digital copy on my KindleApp and to be very honest, I read the entire first book in one sitting. I had time because I was on break from college. But if I thought the original version amazing, the book was over the moon good! And my opinion on these books were only later emphasized when I finished the second book (which I just recently finished). The books, now titled April Loves Black Coffee: First Impressions, and April Loves Black Coffee: Last Conversations, respectively, are an AMAZING and awe-strucking upgrade of the original piece of work by Solangel. Though I love the fact that the original peice was raw and had Solangel's distinct writing style, The new elements that the books offered made up for all of the missing details of the original.

Whereas the original was a bit confusing because of certain time lapse and whatnot, the books are written in a linear structure so it's a bit easier to understand. Not just that but the linear storyline also opens the doors of opportunity to the deeper development of the characters and their relationships with each other. (Can I just add here that I have fallen in love with Jaewon all over again.) I also love the fact that the first book concentrated on Sangwoo and May's relationship and the second revolved mainly around Jaewon and May's relationship. And then the addition of May's intuition and conscience just makes the story come full circle. They basically play the roles of the devil and angel on May's shoulder, but it's still deeper than just the devil and angel; it's her coping/defensive mechanism. And that little addition in itself is one of my favorite parts of the reworked writing. It shows the inner tormoil and emphasizes the many thoughts that May goes through before her actions. It gives the readers a sense of why and how she got to her decision and actions.

*sighs* What I'm trying to say is, if you have some time on your hands and you want something good to read, April Loves Black Coffee is my recommendation. It's a roller coaster ride that leaves you wanting more and climbing right back into that roller coaster seat for another round. No matter how many times I read the story or the books, the hurt, love, pain... all of the emotions it triggers feels like the first time all over again. It's a story you won't get tired off. It's a page-turner. It's a must.

And it has 'coffee' in its title. (I love coffee. And I actually really do like black coffee (dark roast) believe it or not.

Yours truly,
