#bandgeek ⇣ Aisling Ryan

Aisling Ryan

monsterful • jess • 8/10

the basics.

name » Aisling (Ashling) Ryan

nickname(s) » Ash/Ryan - Most people call her this. It is easier to call her this. While she doesn't mind it, she'd rather people call her Aisling. Usually during marching band season she's refered to as Ryan on the field because it is easier for others to get her attention that way.

birthday » December 3rd (18/Senior)

BACKUP FACE CLAIM » Kite
face claim » May

appearance » Aisling has short hair, and keeps in short. Her hair color varies depending on what she is feeling like. Currently it is a dark brown color. She does have her ears gaged (0). While she is only 165cm tall, She weighs around 61kgs. She is defintely in shape with all the excersize she gets. She has darker skin, thanks to all the time spent in marching band and surfing in the summer. Like every other marching band kid in the world, she has a sock/shoe tan line. She usually wears glasses, but will switch to contacts during performances, unless it is windy. (unlike her face claim, she has no tattoos, because she is still in school and tattoes are expensive.) When in her marching band uniform, it's pretty easy to mistake her for a guy, especially in a very guy dominated part of the band.

style » Aisling has a very "hipster" esque style. She's trendy, but very relaxed about it. She likes to wear hats a lot, and usually doesn't have to do a lot for her hair, but sometimes she'll play around with different styles. It's easy to find Aisling in a crowd because she's usually the only one with a hat, or if its cold, a blanket. Usually during practice, she wears as little clothing as she can get away with. Crop tops, short shorts, sports bras, tanks, whatever is the least amount of fabric. She pointed out that if boys could go with out shirts during practice, she should be able to as well. So usually she trys to get away with just her sports bra and shorts.

" that's hella lame "

" It's ashling, not a sling. "

the girl next door.

plotline » The Librarian & Historian

personality » Aisling has an introverted personality. While she isn't shy or afraid to lead a crowd, she is always exhausted emotionally after being around people for such a long time. LIke a phone, she needs time to recharge. Aisling is somebody who is responsible and motherly, to the point where she sometimes forgets to take care of herself. She is hard working and dedicated, often putting all her effort into that specific task. She tends to take off more than she can chew in some cases. Which can cause her to stress out. Which just turns her more snappy and sarcastic than she usually is. Aisling is almost too nice for own good. She has a hard time telling people no, and is kind of a door mat people can walk over. She is the quiet girl in class, the smart quiet girl at that. She's the one to go to if you need help with homework, or need a good grade on a future project. Unless it is in math, she struggles with that and is barely hangining on to her B+ as is.

Once the bell rings and she's on the field, Aisling is almost a different person. Laughing and hanging off of whoever she is hanging out with that day. She makes sure everyone has everything they need, finding out what/who is missing, and contacting them seeing if theyre coming to practice. She is often the go to (outside of the drum majors) for information or to turn things in to.

Aisling is a perfectionist, she likes things to be perfect, and when something isn't perfect, she can be a little(lot)  passive agressive. She doesn't like confrontation and doesn't do well in arguments unless she has planned ahead and knows what she is going to say. Aisling holds grudges, and is terrible at letting things go. She stays quiet for the most part, holding in her feelings, whether they be good or bad.

In short, Aisling is a passive agressive jack of all trades and a master of none.

Instrument » Battery (Preferably 1st tenor, or 1st snare, she has been in battery since her sophmore year) (Pit would be a back up, and Idc where in pit) (she is good at both marching and playing. Unless it is the oboe. Then she is better at playing. Because she has to focus to play and tends to mess up her steps sometimes. With Battery, it's definitely easier to march along too.)

trivias » Her Schedule for her senior year looks like; Forensic Science, Mythology/Creative Writing, AP Stats, Concert Band, AP Psycology, And a free period used to TA for her band teacher. Usually used to prepair everything for marching band later that day, or to practice.

She has already been accepted into UCLA, and went during the summer to tour the campus and to audition for their concert band and marching band. (Still waiting to hear back)
Aisling likes indie music the best, going along well with her hipster image.

She usually packs a lunch.

Aisling owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. She paid for half, and her parents paid for half.
Aisling has a part time job at the local Baskin Robbins.
Aisling broke up with her boyfriend, Yong Junhyung, over the summer. He was attending college, and the both felt it would be better if they just went on their seperate paths. It devistated her, and probably him too. She's still a little sad over it.
During the summer, her family either goes to Cali to visit family, or back to Ireland to do the same. When she is in Cali, she likes to go surfing. While she isn't that good at it yet, she still enjoys it.
Some of Aisling's likes consit of; indie music, reading/books, sour candies, celtic women, and history.
Her dislikes consit of; spoiled kids, idiots, a jammed copy machine, hungry kids, and people who don't know how to do things theyve been instructed to do plenty of times.

Aisling is easily annoyed by kids who think theyre funny when theyre really not. She's pretty serious when it comes to marching band, but knows how to have a little fun too.

Like most drummers, Aisling will tap her fingers on a hard surface when she is bored. She also clicks pens when she is bored or thinking hard and chews the inside of her cheek when she is irritated. She doodles when taking notes.
Aisling's life pretty much revolves around music, school, marching band, work, and homework. It's half the reason she TA's for her band teacher, is so she has some time to do homework.

Aisling has a gopro camera that she plans on putting good use to, when getting footage for the end of the year film she has to put together.
Her phone is a black Galaxy Note 3.
She has a few decent scholorships, her main one being for Oboe, paying for half of her tutition for her first two years of school. As long as she plays in the band.
Aisling doesn't really have time for hobbies outside of band. So you could say music is her hobby.

She is one of the designated drivers for band. Though she does ask that you chip in for gas money if you are getting a ride somewhere. Being one of the eldest in the band, and having her liscenes since she was 16, she doesn't have any restrictions. Thus making her a prime canidate for fiting a bunch of sweaty kids into her car. (Plus she can seat like 6-7 people if they don't mind sharing seats and getting friendly. Maybe 10 if they want to sit in the trunk. That's only if she is getting food. Usually if she is taking people home, she limits it to 6. Legally, she can sit 5 people in her car.)
One of her more proud/embaressing moments in band was during a performance they were being judged on, she broke one of her sticks, and without missing a beat, she pulls out one of her back up sticks and finishes the performance. It didn't go unnoticed by the judges, she was applauded for her professional behavior. Though she was docked a point.

home is where your heart is.

background » Aisling was adopted as a baby to an irish family. (Thus her name) When she was barely a year old, she had moved from ireland to california, where her aunt lives. Growing up, Aisling had always loved music, she got her start with piano lessions at 4 years old. With a slight irish accent in school, she always had mixed reactions to it. Sometimes awe and in love with it, wanting her to talk all the time. Or riddicule in thinking that she was faking it, or thinking it was annoying. She spent a lot of time by herself in elementary school, excelling in music and english. Her school had a marimba group that was chosen by the music teacher. It was viewed as the ultimate elitest group, and you weren't anything unless you were in it. 4th graders were the only ones chosen, and those who were chosen in 4th grade, would move up to the 5th grade band when they moved up grades. It was an obvious choice to put Aisling in there. She was already ahead of her peers in music, thanks to the piano lessions. They would tour around the city and even made a special trip to disneyland. She would always be the one who would help out the others if they were struggling with a part, or to help teach parts. Usually in the band, they would keep you with one or two specific parts. (alto, soprano, tenor, baratone, or bass. Everyone wanted the base ones.) Aisling would float around to wherever she was needed. She has always been like that, taking up the parts nobody wanted. When elementary school graduation was coming up, her father got a job promotion that would cause her to move away.
She started middle school in a new place, not knowing anybody. While she gained some friends here and there, Aisling spent a lot of her time in the band room. She continued learning on percussion instruments, like everybody else in the world wanted too as well. (It was mainly flutes, Trumpets, and Percussion in her middle school ft. a few others) In 7th grade she was encouraged to switch over to the oboe, and did so, occasionally floating back and forth between percussion and oboe.
When Aisling enterted high school, she was mainly in concert band (Mainly focused on oboe), until her director pulled her aside one day her freshman year and told her about marching band, inviting her to join. She needed an extracurricular activity anyway for college, so why not. Freshman year, she was in the pit playing marimba. Ever since her freshman year, Aisling has participated in marching band. Often viewed as the mother of everyone there. Bringing extra snacks, water, sunscreen, offering rides to those who dont have one. She would be the last to get something, making sure all her babies had everything they needed. It wasn't a question that she would have some sort of important position, it was just a matter of which one she would get. She had been the librarian her sophmore and junior year, she was a given historian on top of it for her senior year.
Academically, She does well. She enjoys english class the most, and she is taking forensic science this year as well. She has already reviced her acceptance letter to UCLA for their Linguistics and Psycology program.
Aisling is usually the one who has like 20 extra water bottles on her, a bunch of granola bars, and sunscreen. Because people like to forget things.

family » Aisling lives in a fairly well off family. Her father being a CFO of a company that sells medical supplies. Her mother is a part time Physical Theripist. She has a little brother, who is also adopted named Killian.
Patrick Ryan - When he was 20, he played in the Irish Air Corps Pipe Band, as a snare. So he understands and often helps out with Aisling's marching band when he has the time. Though it has been around 25 years since he's last done any marching.
Niamh Ryan - Aisling and her mother get along well enough. She's always encouraging her daughter to do better. Often asking her why she hasn't taken more AP classes or why she has a "free period." It was actually her mother who made her get a job ontop of everything. She said that if Aisling was to continue with marching band, she would have to get a job.
Killian Ryan - Aisling's little brother. Unlike Aisling, who is of Korean desent. Killian is of Russian. Like Aisling, he has a slight accent when talking, but he's loud and rowdy. He's a middle school boy (8th grade)  and has that kind of humor. He plays baseball. Aisling likes her little brother, but he can be annoying. He absolutly adored Junhyung when they were dating, and was sad when they broke up. Sometimes he still asks her if he's ever coming over. He is slightly protective of his sister, but loves to .

friends/rivals » Aisling gets along with nearly anybody. She isn't particulary close to anyone, nor does she have any outright hatred for anyone. While she is competitive, it isn't with anyone in her team.

the one and only.

love interest » Kim Seok Jin

backup love interest » Jung Hoseok (I don't think that'd work out beings that Aisling is 18 and older than really every other love interest outside of Seok Jin)

personality » he's the quietest of the group. he likes to just listen to everyone talk. the most he talks is when he's teaching the newcomers, or telling them how to do something. some people think he's too quiet and nice to be section leader, but he wanted to apply for it and got it because of seniority. but that doesn't mean he doesn't do a good job. He can be quite cute when you get to know him. Friendly enough, though a little on the reserved side. He's easy going around people, but when it comes to special projects he can be quite meticulous. And one of the few people who calles her Aisling, no matter the time/season.

love story » Aisling and Seok Jin met during their freshman year. Both were playing in the pit. Theyre friendly enough with each other, But Seok Jin stopped talking to her while she was dating Junhyung. She just figured it was because he could be intimidating. When he asks about him senior year (Because he was a year older than them. He graduated already.) She gets sad and tells him what happens.Although he was excited, he didn''t act like that around her. Because that would be terrible. It isn't a huge secret that he has a crush on her, though Aisling is blind to it. Theyre just friends. And Jin is trying to make them more than that. Aisling wouldn't mind. She thinks hes cute, but she's still getting over Junhyung.Though he is the only person she will share a water bottle with, or share her food with. So that's a start.

last words.

comments/suggestions » I'm still learning who is who in BTS lol. I just copy and pasted the personality for him and added a bit more. You can always ignore that. I hope her name isn't too out there for you. It is one of the more popular names in ireland. (In the top 50) I also am a band geek, though with only a year of marching band under my belt. I was a first chair flute in concert band, and played marimba's in pit my senior year because all the good marimba players graduated lol. The top picture is how Aisling looks like now, slightly longer, curly, dark hair. She'll probably cut it or dye it before school finishes. Also, as a band geek to another band geek, if you ever need help/inspiration, feel free to message me. I have so many things/stories from my band experience, it should definitely help spark some ideas if need be. I also wanted to add that a lot of the newer kids in battery also start of on cymbals. Esepecially the girls (if the first bass is taken. Just because it is lighter.)

scene requests » Maybe Jin asking Aisling to a dance, lol. Or Aisling asking him to one (Depending on if you decided to do a Sadie Hawkins dance or not. Idk)

password » I was worried. I thought there was a password. A really good idea for a password would have been a theme for the show. ;)
