What happened exactly to AFF (I told you)

I just woke up, finding my friends's messages who told me that AFF was gone, AFF was dead, RIP AFF

I just laughed, because probably it was technical error, but ....

This is going to be my first time ranting, after such a long time

In my last blog, i talked about who suddenly turned to be okay in here, because some people wanted to be a special snowflake, and said that the fics containing would explore the victim's psychology http://www.asianfanfics.com/blog/view/988037

How would you know to explore their mentality? Are you a psychology student? Can you explain stockholm syndrome very detail and rational? (I'll be very careful throwing out such a word, because i don't have the credibility to explain it since i learn law, not psychology?)

Can you explain to me about subject like victimology? (Now, this is what i learn)

Did it ever happen to you in real life? (Not trying to underestimate anyone. But this is internet, everyone can lie)

Internet has become a new fully society. What i know as a law student is one thing, when there's a society, there's a law, and there are internet polices (cool, right).

Law suit happens

What happened to AFF few hours ago? (I can't help but to facepalm myself so hard)

He said, his daughter was reading child abuse fanfiction and after reporting it in November to AFF with no action caused, he reported the actual site to the police. His daughter is only 11 or 12 years old.

(Good job, kids, you've done a very excellent job for not being able to hide your from your parents. Basic rule, if you are underage, get off internet. If you can't, atleast lock your door before surfering your . )

Real talk, i don't blame the father, strangely. It was was the writer's mistake, the reader's mistake.

The writer's mistake : THERE'S CLEARLY RULE THAT STATES ON AFF'S POLICY .. NO CHILD ABUSE, NO IA (AFF owner isn't stupid, he knows that majority readers in here are underage. They are still under parent's consent). You broke the rule, good one, you think you are cool?

The reader's mistake : you are 11 years old, go play outside, do your homework, or build a snowman ffs

Why i don't blame the parents : well aside that he should have blocked certain sites. He gives responsibility to you, to use internet WISELY (a lot of school requires internet to do projects, right). Besides kids these days are so smart and sneaky, when it comes to internet. I won't call this bad parenting though. Perhaps, moderators missed those fics. Perhaps, noone reported those fics. But, clearly, someone is breaking the rules.

I can't even blame the parent, because what he did is understandable (atleast for me who's learning about cyber law). There's a cyber police. Everyone isn't safe on the internet. Everyone is watching you.

Really, if you, as a writer, can't even follow the rules. Move to a or something. Because yes, if law suit happens, and the reporter wins, AFF can be shut down for real. (It happened to Megaupload)

Peace out, don't sleep in your classes

I did not think of the authors of the other stories, for that i am sorry. Against the many attempts i requested AFF to block the child in question and remove the story. They didn't listen so i took the matter into my own hands.

They have now removed the story, and they blocked my IP address so i cant access the site from home. I have no ide why but i guess they have their reasons.

For those who do not understand, maybe cause most of the users on here are children, one day you will have own children and you will wish to protect them, i did what i had to. IF AFF had not removed the story, i would have had the site shut down again.

I hope this answers anything that left out on Twitter and the only reason i closed my account, where due to the fact people attacked my daughter for the site closing, it was me, so please vent your anger at me. leave my family out of it.

I want everyone to know, i tried so badly to contact the owner of the site, numberous times.

As far back as end of October last year.

I wish to clarifiy also due to Twitter only allowing me 140 characters, it was not my daughter accessing these stories. It was her friend, But her friend LordLevi gave login details to this site to my daughter, when i found them i logged in, I checked her history and noticed she was accessing M rated content almost daily, including rated stories.

I took screenshots and i reported this to her school, whom then reported the matter to the police. I had reported stories written by Lordlevi that was rated M also. AFF refused to close her account. 3 months on and this girl and some of her other friends are on this site viewing materal that is not suited.

I reported the child abuse story and still AFF refused to remove it.

I contacted the web space provider and gave them the link. they removed the site.

This their email back to me. So you can all understand how serious this matter was.

Hello,

Thank you for making us aware of this issue, we have removed the client from our services and will notify authorities.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Thanks God ( or the creator of AFF ) AFF is working again. Well, technically this is difficult to blame someone but I wish people would respect rules written by AFF because this is an amazing website.

I thought it was technical, I was online and then suddenly I can't access AFF anymore. I just turned my laptop off and went to sleep. I just thought I'd wait until its fix again.

yeah today when i wake up i can't open aff too....it happen several times already...im understand what u talk about cause im graduate from law school too. so basically this is virtual world, people can lie about their age even when aff make a rule only 18 who can read mature content. but the truth a lot of underage teenager readers or authors can access mature content easily. even 13 years old kid can write now here, i can't even imagine how can she know that. it's back again to the parents who careless taking care of their children. the best thing is never give your underage kid a gadget and never give laptop if she want to surf internet the parents can try to place a computer in their living room so they can know what their chil doing and call the internet provider to lock the forbidden website so you can protect your children from . this is what my parents do it to control me when im still underage so i only know about from my collage friend when im in second year of law school. it's back again to how the parents taking care of their child. internet have negative and positve side so it's back to us how to control it.

The thing is, if you check out the Terms of Use, AFF in and of itself is not liable for what its users write. So mods can do what they can to keep things off the site, but ultimately all-out censorship isn't the way to go. I guess why I find this so unfair is that sites containing much more graphic and visual content can get away with just having a button that says, "yeah if you're underage and you find this stuff, we're not liable" but AFF gets hammered for content that is more less out of its control. Things are always going to fly under the radar, no matter how much you police a site.

That being said, I can't place all the blame on the parent. He was doing what parents do. Albeit, he could have handled the situation much differently, and should take this time to speak to his child on content that may be found online and how it affects people, and why this and that is wrong, and this and that is okay. I know the mods are taking steps to fix things, but they're severely understaffed, and these kind of implementations take some time.

I doubt they'll get the site closed, though lmao they can bully it because it's small-time

If they close down AFF, its unfair for those who don't write such controversial fictions. we are all writers who are trying to gain recognition for the ability we have therefore writers should be considerate when they publish their work here. is okay as long as it doesn't hurt anyone in any aspect; but if the writers don't understand where they should draw the line, I think they should move to a site where they do allow such fictions to be published.
Its understandable what the father did, I would have done the same if I caught my children or younger siblings reading such stories, he must have been outraged, so we can't blame him. We can't exactly blame the child either, this is the age where they're curious about such things.

Writers please be considerate, there are other readers and writers too. And what we write here are fan fictions on people who exist in real life. I don't think they would be happy to know that there are people out there imagining these idols doing terrible things that they will never even imagine doing.

When I saw that AFF was down, I instantly remembered your previous blog about the . As one of the commenters below said, I, too, have seen an Infinite fic with ans such.
I don't blame the father, I would have done the same...

other than following some authors stories, basically I'm kinda out of AFF.. I don't even read other fanfic except INFINITE.. and their's mainly .. and of coz, I did spotted some child abuse and ff in INFINITE too. But I'm glad I'm already an working adult. And although I'm still an emotional person, I'm proud to say I'm kind of rational so I know what I want (to read and act) ans what I don't want.
I may not have friends that studied psychological or law, but I've a very close friend who works as LE for corporate.. sometimes I did seek for advices on Internet policies/issues/etc.. though mostly I actually seek advices on contracts issues with her instead..
so, I'm totally agree to your point of view on this. :)

A lot of is romanticized on this website, and that's why the topic is so touchy. There are too many fanfics on here where the victim falls for her/his tormentor.

I don't really blame the parent, but I do feel like he overreacted. He could have just simply blocked the website from his daughter's device(s). I agree that it isn't AFF's fault, as they have gone over the rules concerning the topic of abuse before.

It is the author's responsibility to go over the material of their fanfic and to mark it as mature content. As for readers, if they are underage, then they should just stay away from stories in the mature section.

Countless times, I have read stories where is romanticised and not rated, nor warned. A friend of mine reported an unrated fic and the backlash she received was ridiculous.

Honestly speaking, as writers, it is our responsibility to ensure that what we post, people are comfortable reading. It is our responsibility to forewarn readers, to let them know that heavy subjects will be addressed. I've seen this be brushed off, be addressed as light-heartedly as possible and it shouldn't be. and abuse are very, very heavy subjects.

I foresaw something like this happening quite a while ago, so I'm not surprised in the least. But people need to learn that whilst there are worse things out on the internet, they need to do what they can to ensure the reader knows exactly what they will be reading.

It's not the parents fault, nor is it Asian Fanfics. As you said, the owner isn't stupid. (The T&C read: You agree that you must rate any of your User Submissions that contain adult themes or explicit situations an “M.” This rule is strictly enforced by ASIANFANFICS. Any violators will have their accounts terminated at the discretion of ASIANFANFICS. You must be 18 years or older to view M-rated content.)

Anyway, I will stop waffling on and leave this as it is. I agree with you fully.

Cannot agree more with this. Thanks for this post.
