[History] King Sejong The Great

Sejong The Great of Joseon.

  • Also known as "The Sage King".
  • ​He was also born under the name: Yi Do (이도)
  • Lived: 15 may 1397 - 8 april 1450.
  •  The fourth king of Joseon. 
    • The king before him was King Taejong, he overthrew the Goryeo kingdom and founded Joseon.
  • Inventor  from the  Korean alphabet : Hangul.
    • ​​Up until the the era or King Taejong there was made use of the Chinese alphabet (Hanja), King Sejong created the Korean alphabet to make writing easier. Since most sounds were difficult to write/make understandable with the use of Hanja.
  •  When he was twelve, his father named him the Grand Prince Choong-Nyung (쳥녕​) 
  • His official title is; Sejong Jangheon Yeongmun Yemu Inseong Myeonghyo Daewang.
    • ​​Hangul; 세종 장헌 영문 예무 인성 명효 대왕
    • ​​This was his throne title, meaning that it was granted to him when he took over his father's throne.
  • His Coronation was September 18, 1418 when he was 21 years old.​
  • He became 52 years old. He had diabetes, which later also caused his death

Predecessor:           Taejong (태종) of Joseon

Successor:               Munjong (먼종​) of Joseon (Which didn't last long, Sejong's grandson, Danjong (단종​) took over at the age of twelve.                                                   Eventually, Sejong's 2nd son, Sejo (세조), took over. (And killed Danjong when he was only 16 years old.)

Mother:                   Queen Wongyeong (웡영​)
