Why I Appreciate America's Veterans

Why I Appreciate America’s Veterans

Rough Draft (5)

On April 30, 1975, America ended the longest war in U.S. history, the Vietnam War. During that war, my grandfathers fought side by side with the U.S. soldiers. Therefore, I am extremely grateful for all veterans who fought for almost 20 years in that war.

November 11th marks the day where the U.S. celebrate the hard work of all passing veterans for their patriotism. “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day, will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…” President Woodrow Wilson had said. He announced that everyone who fought in the World War 2 is a hero, not just the Caucasians, African Americans, or Asians, but all races as one, fighting for  their country.

A mix of different emotions comes to me when I think about the veterans. I feel proud to think that there are people in this world fighting. Yet, when I think about it more, my smile slowly disappears, they serve with a possibility of dying and all they get is their name on a wall. However to the soldiers that is not the point. The point is that they fought and defended their country.

In conclusion, a veteran is someone who, at one point, signed a huge check to the U.S., and on the payment line they wrote, ‘my life.’ Their patriotism means they will always defend our freedom. Many veterans have families, but they still go and fight when they have a chance of dying. They leave their families for a year, at the least, not knowing what will happen. That is the scariest part and we all know it. Without them, who knows how America would be. We all owe these veterans our lives. If it weren’t for them, most of us likely wouldn’t be in a free country. It’s thanks to them, I am able to live my life to my liking. I wouldn’t know what I would do without that. Many veterans have served and sacrificed many things since the Revolutionary War with more to come. Therefore, I will always be grateful to our American Veterans.
