Song of the Night #2

Hello! I'm back, talking about a song in the middle of the night is quite irresistible, I must say. Actually, I just feel like typing something out so bear with me (LOL).

Right now I'm listening to Chandelier by Sia.

Okay, first of all I am aware that this is no Korean song and I am someone who listens to Korean songs. (Why is that sentence so damn random, gosh). Okay, back to the topic. It's actually a song I stumbled upon one day while looking through top song lyrics in a website. So I tried listening to the song. At first taste, the song is kind of "What is this? What is this song? Whut?" And then after listening to it twice, thrice, I realised that even though I initially didn't understand the essence of the song or its core meaning, Sia's voice is truly, truly impressive. She's the first singer to actually make the hair at the back of my neck stand on end. There's this unexplainable, haunting quality in her voice that is unacceptable at first, but the more I listen to her voice, the more I like it.

When I looked at the lyrics again, apparently this song is talking about a 'broken party girl' who parties and keeps unahppiness at bay... by drinking(?). In that case, the song is supposed to be pointless, but the way Sia sings it makes it full of emotion. Running, hiding from emotions and drinking away all the pain.... It does remind me of Korean drama drunkards (but hey, at least they don't swing from the chandelier. Speaking of which, I'd like to see Gu Jun Pyo swing from the chandelier, please.) who drink and drink to avoid their problems. In a way, listening to this song kind of makes you 'sad but not sad', 'sorry but not sorry' (LOL is that even grammatically correct?). I emphatize with said party girl in the song, and I also don't. It's kind of angsty, really... Because, let's say, I feel that what she does is wrong. Why drink your life away? But then again, if I were in her situation I'd probably do the same.

Speaking of which, I'm pretty assured this is not going to be EXO Luhan's favourite song cause he's afraid of heights. Luhan, don't drink.

Final (personal) verdict, this song doesn't resonate with me, but seriously, I love Sia's voice and the number of times I've listened to Chandelier is mindblowing. (Don't ask me. I've lost count.)

Till next time! :) -surreal_dreams
