I was listening to Hoshi no Nagareru Yoru Ni when a scene of a couple embracing appeared in my head and I knew instantly that I had to pen it down. The song just filled me with so much warmth and love I had to write a drabble based on it. Now that I was supplied with a scene by my mind, I had no further objections. It was time to start writing.

Then, the thought occur to me: I could make this a challenge for myself! Since I've always had problems with making my sentences concise, I decided to limit myself to 10 words per sentence and to 500 words per drabble.

Well,well well, I'm feeling really pumped up huh?

Anyway,

THE CHALLENGE IS ACCEPTED.

Here's the end product:

I close my eyes. Amidst the darkness, I see the light. It's approaching me; slowly but steadily. The warmth spreads over. My eyes remain enthralled by the light. Gradually, bit by bit, it takes over. Soon, there is nothing left but the light. The darkness dissipates; all I see is the light.

Hi-ka-ri.

I smile just as a teardrop falls, glistening. Courage gathers in me and I take a step forward. My hands are slick with sweat. They tremble in mid-air as I stretch them out. A smile curves the ends of my lips. My eyes are bright, reflecting the light surrounding them. My feet shuffle another step forward. I inch closer towards you.

One more step and I will be in your arms. Just one more step and we will be together. It just takes one more step. The warmth surrounds me. I smile. Alas, we meet again. The happiness blooms inside me. Then, I see it and my smile instantly freezes over. There is a small gap between us. It separates us into two. I frown. Distance, no matter how small, is always significant. My tears fall more rapidly than before. My heart feels heavier. I take a step back. My eyes were wide open with horror. All hope is lost. The distance will stay there. We will never reach each other. We cannot be together. The darkness swarms in as the light fades away. A wall erects between us. I gradually lose sight of you. Bitterness and regret overwhelm me. I fall, slipping further into the void.

Then, I heard you call my name. Instantaneously, the wall shatters. The darkness disappears; and the light returns. I see you again. My tears stop at the sight of your presence. I pick myself up, my eyes locked onto you. You return my gaze steadily. Trembling, I take a step forward. You continue smiling at me. I stretch my arms out, still and anticipating. You grasp my hands within yours and you take it. I gasped.  

In front of me, you took the step without hesitation. The smile never left your face. Pulling me into your arms, you then embrace me. As I cried, your warmth comforted me. My tears were flowing but I was smiling. Finally, I was back to where I belonged.

The distance that divided us had been breached.

It was gone in a single step.

And that's the ending muahahaha!
