I never thought that in all my time on AFF would I ever have to come to this, but *sigh* it must be done. Also this can be for other authors out there that may feel the same way and have yet to say anything about it. Now, before I start though I just want to make something very clear, I guess a disclaimer or something, so that you can get it into your head I will put it in bold caps because bold caps, stand out.

I DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT, MEAN TO SOUND RUDE OR MEAN AT ALL WITHS THIS BLOG RANT!

I’m sure that sometime during your time on this website, whether you be an author or a reader or something else that I can’t think of at the moment, I’m sure that you’ve probably seen such comments on a story such as these (maybe sometimes with a heart next to it <3):

“Please update”

“Please update soon”

“Update soon”

“Update fast please”

Do these seem recognizable to you all, I hope so. Whether it be some other user or yourself (I’m sure for some of you, NOT ALL, but some of you that there has been a time on AFF where you have had a comment that said something similar to that in it, heck even I have!)

Now, I just want to start off by saying, I know what you are thinking…or what you probably might be thinking…hopefully since I can’t read minds but, some of you are probably thinking, and I think mostly if you are a reader of mine, that I probably hate it and despise when people write comments like that on my stories. And I am here to tell you that you are wrong, just seeing comments like that do not make me upset or anything like that. For those who don’t know I’m actually a care free type of girl, like I don’t really care much for somethings (not to say that I don’t care for your comments because I love reading people’s comments!) I guess I could say that I tend to be neutral about certain things and don’t really let them affect me in a wrong way. So I have no problem at all when someone puts a comment saying ‘update soon’ or something like that. BUT! I would apprentice it if you would do it JUST ONCE if you plan on commenting on my stories and not multiple times because I’ve actually recently run into a problem like that (not gonna name names) and it did actually start t get a little bit annoying, but not all that much. [UPDATE ON THAT] This said person has even gone as far as to private message me asking to please update my story even when I replied to two of their comments already explaining myself about how I also have many other stories to work on and a LIFE (let’s not forget that we are all humans therefore we all have lives outside of AFF) so I can’t always be updating the same story all the time, I need to give love to all of them. But no, it seems like they just ignore what I say. NOW, if any of you know who I am talking about then please DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT start up anything like giving hate or unnecessary comments. I do not want to be a person that cause ruckus to happen between the AFF community and you guys, though if there was someone way yonder being mean to a friend of mine or innocent users I’m gonna defend them, but aside from that please DO NOT start up any bed stuff, thank you. [UPDATE ON THAT DONE]

Though something I will say is why write such a comment that may include ‘update blah blah’ somewhere in there. I was thinking about it quite a bit like 2 weeks before writing this blog. It makes sense because I know for the most part people usually comment that because, ya know, they really like the story or it interests them so much that they want to continue reading on right away so they want the next update right away which I understand so ‘update blah’ comments can come off as good in that way…but…not really. The other thing I was thinking about first as that it didn’t really made sense to why people would write ‘update soon’ when you know that the author is going to update sometime in the future anyway, unless they haven’t updated a certain story in a long to super long time ratio, then I can see/understand why someone would come back to the story asking to update soon because there hasn’t been an update in forever; this is actually the case for me in some cases to which I have no problem with but I also moan in sadness after reading it because I feel like I’m not only neglecting the story but the readers that want to read it, I always feel bad about it…I’M SORRY. I do not want to neglect anything and try to do my best to get around to every story if I can. But back to the thought I had of why write ‘update soon’ comments…I actually really don’t have an answer for it so……if you do put it in the comments below! :D

Now going away from my perspective of this I wanna talk about how I’ve seen other authors feel. I friend of mine on here, not gonna name names because I’m not all that sure if it is ok to, I believe I remember a long while ago that for one of her stories she has she made a blog rant concerning the same thing not like mine but just about the ‘update soon’ comments on that specific story. From what I remember it would seem that many people would only or mainly just comment ‘update soon’ comments, even when she just updated the story as well which that just kind of doesn’t make sense to say update soon when they updated right on that day, and it happened so much I think to the point that she got really annoyed with them that she made the rant about them. I think she talked about how she disliked it when that was the only thing people commented after she put in all that hard work to write a chapter for her readers (she’s a really cool author by the way). Like I mentioned before when talking about myself I don’t mind but I understand where she is coming from because writing is a difficult thing to do sometimes and people put a lot of hard work into writing these stories so we should appreciate them. But anyway, I believe she also said that seeing people just keep on commenting ‘update soon’ and all that, comments only like that, it was to the point where she just was not in the mood to write and update the story saying she was stopping until things changed. And when you think about it just like her there could be other authors like her that don’t like it when you just say ‘update soon’ as well. One thing she pointed out though that I think is a good idea is that instead of just only writing a comment that says ‘update soon’ that you should write more by actually saying something about the story that you liked or enjoyed, that or…just don’t write a comment at all I think might have been the other thing……but yeah! Not gonna lie I think that is a good idea, I mean, it only makes sense to comment on a story about something that has relevance to it yeah? Yeah~ [NOTE] If you read this, person who I am talking about, feel free to slap me upside the head and correcting me if I’m wrong about anything said here lol XD

Anyway, I think that’s all I have to say in this blog that I can currently think of at the moment, but if there is something in here that you feel I left out then we can go ahead and discuss it together. I would love to hear how you feel about this too. And to those of you who actually read this whole thing all the way to this point, thank you~

Just to sum up everything stated here:

I don’t mind ‘update soon’ comments but repeatedly saying them is actually pretty annoying.
Everybody on AFF has a life so don’t always be getting on their backs about things.
I’m sorry if I neglect some of my stories at times, I never mean too :( it’s just that I’m the type of author to work on my story that I feel in the mood to write and I always like to put up new story ideas right away sometimes I just can’t help myself…but just know it may take long but an update will eventually come for my stories!
Some authors out there might not like it when you only comment ‘update soon’ and it could get them out of the mood to update. It’s like the saying goes “Think before you do or say anything” so the same thing could go for here “Think before you write something” maybe instead of 'update soon' you could write something like "Can't wait for the next update" or "Update whenever you can"
