born as a daughter of noble, many people would envy Joo Wol's lucky strike. who knew who she was in the previous life, but it must be somebody who saved the world or something. because since birth, Joo Wol had experienced nothing but love and luxury, and never once did she encountered something displeasing to the eyes. with loving parents and a loving brother, Joo Wol grew into somebody that spreads love and laughter as much as she had received. this had made her loved by her family, friends, and practically everybody she met. especially considering the fact that she was also somebody really smart for her age, thanks to her love for books and education. yes, Joo Wol loved reading and learning to the maximum extent. she loved reading so much to the point she got beaten up a LOT by her parents for always sneaking books into her room when she was a girl and not even supposed to receive any formal education aside from embroidery, poetry, and music. but this didn't seem to have made Joo Wol loosen her interest to books and the supposed-to-be 'male only' education. but who are we kidding? that was the only thing little Joo Wol loved to do. poetry and embroidery? no sir, she'd rather sneak out of embraoidery classes to enjoy the warm summer breeze and get hit later rather than sitting there for three and a half hours listening to 'how to pull a thread through a needle' lectures.

until the age of 10, Joo Wol had been raised with a mindset that there are nothing bad in this world. so what a shock did she came onto when she—who had only been encountering the beauties of the world—finally witnessed the sight of those things by the name of 'pain', 'poverty', and even 'injustice'. it was then that she developed a determination to help those people in need, even if that meant she have to sacrifice herself. and as she got further, all that she found out was that the source of these miserability the low ranked people had to face was because of the discrimination the noble born did to the low borns. this was how Joo Wol's fire ignited. as days went by, she had grew braver and bolder, branching out from just donating money and supplies to the needy, to the point where she now bravely stood for the discriminated, voicing out her voice for those who didn't have a voice, in hope to make her kingdom better off. this had made Joo Wol a figure adored by many. so even though she wasn't elected as the crown princess, she was still the queen of people's hearts.

unfortunately, her love story didn't go as smoothly as her career as the 'queen of people's heart'. since forever, Joo Wol has kept a special feeling for her own best friend, Prince Lu Han; it was just he was too preoccupied with other things to realize it. but even if he knew Joo Wol's real feelings, then so what? he would never return her feelings anyway. yes, he was in love with another woman; he was in love with their other best friend, Su Jeong, and Joo Wol knew it. it had hurt Joo Wol badly eversince she heard it, but she just tried to act as normal as she could, trying to break as less hearts as possible. but when the news of her engagement with the exact Lu Han she loved came out, it struck Joo Wol like a lightning in the light of day. what should she feel? should she feel happy? no, she shouldn't feel happy. should she feel sad? yes, she should. but how can she feel sad when her heart's leaping like crazy at the thought of marrying the man she loved? it's complicated.

TRAITS. (positive) friendly, understanding, indiscriminate, willing to sacrifice (negative) irresolute, short-thinking, pathetic

in so many ways, Joo Wol is a friendly girl. when she wants to, she can be that socialite that can make a conversation with a stranger she just met 5 minutes ago into a conversation about things normally only close friends would do. people mostly liked to chat with her and trusted her in a conversation because Joo Wol has the ability to make people feel comfortable and safe around her as she threw nice words at them, accompanied by small jokes. but mostly, it was because she actually took her time to sit down and listen to what other people had to say. Joo Wol is as good as a listener as she is as a talker. she listens well and understood people's hearts and feelings. and not only that she listened well and give good advices, she also would most likely just throw herself in there and help people with all of her might without even hesitating. sometimes, she would even sacrifice herself for the sake of other people. she didn't care who they are. as long as there are people in need she felt she has to help, she'll do anything she could do to help: noble born, low born; she never discriminates them.

but unfortunately, Joo Wol isn't any better in helping herself compared to when she was helping other people. being a daughter of noble born, Joo Wol never had to decide on anything in her life, so when she grew up, she grew blind on making decisions. even when she helped others with their problems, it was just such a shame when she couldn't help herself resolve her own problems. so usually, when she has a problem, she wouldn't even think anything through. all she considered was just how to get this problem down today, and not even thinking on how her decisions would affect the future. good for her, Joo Wol actually noticed this weakness she has, but again, she just have to cover it with yet another weakness: she covers up her problems, burying it deep inside herself, pretending not to know, pretending not to care, but in reality she just didn't dare to speak them up to another person. she thought that it was the only way to not bother other people with her problems, but we all know that it wasn't exactly the correct thing to do because it would just make her life miserable.

FAVORITES. books, friends, children, people in need (so she can help them), fresh air, flowers

HATES. politics, embroidery, those selfish government officials, discrimination, the fact that there's something called 'ranks', the fact that she was a girl who can't meddle with laws and governmental affairs, practically all people that are of noble born

HABITS. smiles ALWAYS, sneaking books inside her room so she can read them later, goes on strolls around the neighborhood everytime she has a chance to (says it relieves her stresses)

HOBBIES. hanging out with her best friends (Su Jeong and Lu Han), reading, helping people

FEARS. losing any of her loved ones (that's her only weakness. other than that, this girl is practically fearless)

FUN FACTS. Joo Wol's father was the Minister of Education in the palace, her favorite book is Han Bi Ja, she always snuck out on her embroidery classes cause she hated it, she always got in trouble after sneaking out, and after she got into trouble usually Su Jeong would be the one to clean up after her while Lu Han is the one to lecture her about her carelessness, the bigger reason why Joo Wol was studying so hard wasn't only because she liked it but because she wanted to be at least as good as Su Jeong, many government officials and noblemen hated her because she always sided with the low ranks

Q. HOW DO YOU FEEL BEING YOU?
A. most people I met thought that I was a very lucky girl: born from a noble family, well educated, surrounded by great people, and now even fated to marry somebody as great as Prince Lu Han. but I do not think those are things to be so proud about. according to my thoughts, it is useless being born as a noble and have all the amenities when you could not do anything for others as a true noble would do. and that was exactly the only thing that made me unhappy to be me. born as a daughter of nobility, it was always "you are not allowed to do this, you are not allowed to do that" even when what I was doing was something noble.

Q. IF YOU ARE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO SWAP LIVES WITH SOMEBODY ELSE, WOULD YOU TAKE IT OR NOT? WHY? IF YES, WHO WOULD YOU SWAP LIVES WITH?
A. I have thought of that, to be honest. at first, I thought that it should be great to swap lives with the King, as he is, however, the law itself, and I thought that it would be great to actually get into action in making this kingdom's subjects live a better life. but as I thought it through, I have come to a conclusion that it is not really a bad idea being me (after all, this is what the heavens fated me to be born as), because compared to the King, I have much, much more chances on helping the people with my own hands, and I have realized that I am truly content with that only. moreover, as soon as I marry my best friend Prince Lu Han, I am completely sure that he would grant me all the freedom I want to just get out there and help more people. 

Q. WHAT DO YOU THINK JOSEON AND THE WORLD NEEDS TO BECOME BETTER?
A. there are no other things more cruel than discrimination. I did not like how we are divided into noble ranks or low ranks based on whom we were born from: a noble, or a low rank. what I am trying to say here is that how can the world become better when we block those people who can actually create a better world from doing so? there are many cases in which I have encountered, where a low born posessed the heart and soul of a noble, while those who are of noble borns did not even posess such virtue. so is it not tragic that we actually put our kingdom's future and well beings in the hands of these virtue-less people only because they are of noble born? well I think that it is not a correct move to take. so in my opinion, before we think of anything else this kingdom and the world needs, it would be nice to start with a law that erases discrimination against low borns.

Q. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE WORSE ERROR ANY HUMAN COULD MAKE?
A. in this world, there are not one human that is able to live without another human being. so if there is one thing no human should do, it is being selfish. if you are selfish, you would think of yourself as somebody much much higher than other people, and in most cases I have seen, it would lead into discrimination. in my opinion, NO human should be looked down onto as we all live under the same sky, and above the same soil. so I think poeple who are selfish and discriminate others should not even live!

Q. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT LOVE AND LIFE?
A. love IS life. if you do not have love, you cannot live, and the other way around; that is the most basic paradox in which the world was based on. so I see love and life as a unity in which no human can separate from each other. and in my opinion, there can be neither love nor life if there are not any other beings to love and live with. so in short, love and life are both meant to be shared. you have not lived nor loved truly if you have not shared BOTH your love and life with others.

Q. FINAL QUESTION. WOULD YOU DIE FOR THE SAKE OF SOMEBODY ELSE? IF YES, WHO WOULD YOU DIE FOR? WHY?
A. my answer would be an affirmative YES. after all, I have said that a human's life is meant to be shared, so how is that any different than dying for somebody else? so as long it is for something noble, than yes, I would not hesitate to sacrifice my everything, including my own life, for the sake of somebody else.

RELATIONSHIP. since their first meeting, Joo Wol and Lu Han had treated each other like real siblings; him being the orabeoni (formal term for 'oppa'), and her being the little sis. this went on for years, closing the two in more and more by the minute. and up until now, the two (along with Han Su Jeong) were only comfortable around each other to the point it seemed that they only trusted each other. but as soon as the news of their engagement got into their ears, Lu Han started acting differently. he started ignoring her, and she knew why. she couldn't blame him for doing so, so she pretended not to know, and just tried to be as normal as she could, even though it couldn't stop the best friends from drifting away slowly.

PERSONALITY. born as Lee Han, the first son to the King, it took a lot of history to build him to be the man he is now. even though he was the first prince, he wasn't the Crown Prince, and that fact only have suceeded to cause him his lifetime happiness. yes, he was the first prince, but for not being the heir, he was treated like royal trash by his father, and despite all, he had to satisfy himself with the fact that all that he was is only the 'prince second place' that was placed second in every aspect of his life; the first always being his younger brother, the Crown Prince Lee Yi-En. this had made Lee Han hated his life, his father, and practically the whole palace, and resulted in him refusing to wear his father's last name, always introducing himself as Lu Han instead of Lee Han. he held grudges that much, eh? tell you what, he isn't usually one to bear grudges unless it was for a really serious matter. so his father must be doing way too far for getting Lu Han to hold a grudge against him.

but when Lu Han actually gathered around the people he liked (like his BFFs, Su Jeong and Joo Wol), he can be a real prince at that. always being so charming and lovely, he acted mostly like an orabeoni or hyeongnim (formal term for 'hyeong/hyung') that protected people he liked. it's funny, actually, how he's like, really serious and looked like he can bite you anytime when he's around the palace ground, but outside the palace? he was just another regular, humorous guy that everyone liked.

MEETING. it was when she was like... 3 years old? Joo Wol and 4 years old Su Jeong were both invited along with their families to some kind of party in the palace which she couldn't even remember. little Joo Wol quickly got bored with all the rituals and whatnots, and in no time was whining to Su Jeong to get her out of there; anywhere but there. motherly Su Jeong didn't take any time at all before her heart melted after seeing Joo Wol's tears, so in the end, the girls snuck out from the party, to a garden Su Jeong fortunately eventually remembered from her last trip to the palace. at the sight of the pretty garden, Joo Wol jumped in glee and eventually played around, with Su Jeong watching over her from afar. suddenly, they heard somebody yelling at them, saying "HEY, YOU!". scared little Joo Wol instantly jumped into Su Jeong's embrace and hid her face, while the older watched out for the figure who came nearer and nearer to them by the minute. luckily, it was no scary palace guard like the two girls had imagined, but it was only a really handsome kid, probably a few years older than the girls, who was now smiling dreamily at them. and yes, you've guessed it: that particular kid was Prince Lu Han.
