I use photoshop generally, GIMP for the text and if I add doodles I use OpenCanvas Lite (I've added chibi doodles before so yeah)

I use gimp on my laptop haha. It's easy and free to download and it's not that hard to use either. I learned pretty quick. And if you ever need to know something there's always a tutorial for it on YouTube haha. And it's really fun to use :3

I use Photoshop. I used GIMP tho, before. It's like Photoshop, but free and easier. (LOL now that I use Photoshop, I think GIMP is complicated LMAO - simply because I haven't touch GIMP in 3 years) Anyway , you can download GIMP and look for tutorials on Youtube or even in here ! Google it .

Alrighty here we go.

The best one I find for beginners is Picmonkey. It's a free online site where you can edit pictures with filters and effects and even out overlays (pictures on top of you picture). There's loads to choose from and you can pay to have premium if you want. I do just fine without premium, though.

For more advanced stuff (ie animation) I suggest gimp. It's free and it's basically photoshop. You just download it to your computer and it's good. I will say that the font selection cause it's just what's on your computer. You can either use multiple editors (such as edit your poster in gimp and add text on picmonkey) or go to 100 free fonts (a website) to download fonts of your choice to your computer. In doing that, though, you have to remember to open the zip file once you download. It's a lot of work, but very well worth it. Gimp is also great for putting on overlays because picmonkey gives you a circle eraser that isn't the best bit gimp allows you to cut out what part of your overlay you want on your picture.

If you're willing to spend money (and I mean a ton) photoshop is the way to go. It's a great and reliable program that has a lot of tutorials online for if you get stuck. As I said before, though, gimp is about the same thing if you're pinching pennies.

I will say for gimp and photoshop that it takes a while to get used to. I find that the nice "click every button to see what it does" approach works pretty well for me.
