Problematic Idols.

How hard is it to realize that whilst yes, your idol has done something problematic, you can still enjoy their presence and simply agree to their wrongs? When you attempt to justify their behavior, you are thereby agreeing to not right nor understand a wrongdoing -- and instead,  bask in your very own ignorance.

Is it due to the emotional connectivity that some of you feel, perpatuated by the idea that idols must live up to such a namesake and in that they are perfect? The idea of an "idol" is a human construct. Humans, by nature, are flawed individuals.

Or are you going to blame Korean culture, an excuse that is formed due to your lack of research and failure to recognize that the issues being discussed are global, not regional?

I was pretty much thinking about certain individuals in regards to their stereotypes concerning other races or nationalities -- or just remarks made about minorities in general. Because one must remember that these issues that are deemed problematic were first perpetuated by the West and their international influence was spread by globalization.

However, the issue that came up that really brought this on was the Haka Dance done by EXO. In point: the choreographer inappropriately used a dance that holds spiritual meaning and significance to its people and was simplified it for sheer entertainment.

Although this was more Testa than anything else, how people attempt to excuse it is downright embarrassing. Sadly enough, as the international audience numbers rises & these fans realize how wrong this is, the pressure they attempt to put on these Korean companies/channels to condemn this is zilch and downright frustrating.

I have to agree with what you said. What issue were you thinking about when you published this blog post?
