I've been wanting to make a post about this for a while, but I never have for various reasons. However, yesterday I saw a ridiculous tumblr post and just... I can't not respond to this. I can't. This is so stupid.

(Warning: This blog post will be full of sarcasm, frustration, and socalled "rudeness." If your dainty dispositions can't handle these things, then I suggest you close this page right now.

And if you don't know what a disposition is, then seriously, just close the damn page.)

So, here is the post that is the source of my discomfort.

"So in Korea, speaking good English is really important. If you want to show that your product is modern and innovative, put English on it. If you want to show that your song is hip and cool, sprinkle English on it. The english there isn’t just there for foreigners, it’s there for Koreans. Which is one of the reasons it’s bad to make fun of English in kpop songs. The English in these songs is not there for you, a foreigner. It wasn’t put there just for you. But many people that criticize kpop-english make it about that. And it’s just not always like that.

And why do you need the english to be better? Does it make the song better? if yes, why? Because good english is superior?

Why do idols need to speak perfect english, when most of their fanbase doesn’t speak english? Why is their accent bad? 

And at the same time we have people complaining that the song has too much korean in it! This kind of thinking is very problematic. 

And at the same time, don’t forget that many koreans will be thankful if you know how to say hello in korean.

How many of us do think like that about our idols english?”

There are so many things wrong with that comment....

First of all, lemme just say, I really don't get why non-English speaking people think it's so hip and cool. ENGLISH IS SO WEIRD. I was born and raised in an English speaking country, speaking nothing but English my whole life, and there are still some grammar things I don't get. Excuse me for saying this though: There is nothing cool about bad grammar, nonsensical lyrics, and screwed up pronunciation. Absolutely nothing. I don't get why this is such a hard concept for people to understand.

Also, if good English is so damn important to Koreans, then they should speak FREAKING GOOD ENGLISH, not freaking wannabe English they picked up from the damn TV.

Jackass, it's English, not english. And hell yes, songs with good English are better than songs with terrible English. Yes! Good English is superior! If you just looked up the word you yourself used, then you would find that good English is indeed superior to bad English. It's common sense.

If most of their fanbase doesn't speak English, THEN WHY THE HELL ARE THEY USING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?!

Okay, this actually makes sense. This is KOREAN pop, people. If you don't want to listen to Korean then....

I don't think that about Korean idol's English. (Korean idol's are not mine.) You know why? They're putting time and effort into learning English, and yes, that's all good and nice and stuff. However, if they're going to spend time and energy into learning another language, then can't they spend time and energy into learning another language properly?
