Style: Hyunki likes to keep his style simple; he wears black clothing because his mother told him that it looks good on him. Hyunki likes to have splashes of color on him- like all black and then bright red shoes, or maybe an electric blue tie. His alter ego, Zombie, likes to go a little crazy, though. He likes to wear all sorts of hats, jackets, belts, and chains. At the very least, both agree that they like Nike shoes and scarves when it's cold. Hyunki has a minimalist style, while Zombie dresses more like a punk.

Personality: Hyunki was originally a loner, reserved, but full of fire. If someone challenges him, he'll take them on. This came about because his youngest siblings just would not shut up and listen to him like good girls and boys- they would rather throw rocks at each other, swim in the river, and all those other things country children like to do. Inwardly, Hyunki wished that he had the chance to be so carefree, but he grew up too fast. If he has something to say, he'll say it and he will be heard; he will make sure of it. Sometimes this means he nags people like he's their mother, but he is only looking out for them. He is always analyzing the situation, noticing things others might miss. If he knows it's going to be cold and you leave without a jacket, then you better look over your shoulder because he's coming, bringing you one, and scolding/nagging you to remember it next time. He can't help but care for people he's close to and will cry if someone else is, even if it looks out of place on his serious face.

But this is not enough of a personality for the company. They want him to have a manlier image than a "Mr. Mom" persona, so they sharpened him. Hyunki's "tsundere"-like nagging warps into something that is more insult than help. Zombie had his beginnings when Hyunki took acting classes at and they made him Hyunki's alter ego. Zombie is what Hyunki retreats into when the spotlight (or just the attention of many people) is on him, because he is normally bashful and humble. Zombie is neither. Zombie is in your face and always smirking, never without having something up his sleeve. He is sarcastic and likes to play with people like toys, get reactions out of people. And he's unafraid to do what he wants- whether it is to play on a children's playground or disobey commands because he knows how to do it better. He won't let anyone question him. But Zombie doesn't hate everyone; if you're on his good side, he'll protect you like none other and spoil you while keeping in character. He tells people he is from hell and that his bandmates are his minions. He means minions affectionately, though. 

Background: Nam Hyunki was born at a time when his parents had just married, gotten out of college, and were working long and hard hours to pay for the bills and their student loans. They loved him too much to leave him for adoption, so they tried to manage the demands of a baby while struggling to take care of themselves. They ate meals that had only what was safe for him to eat because then they could puree it and feed it to him instead of buying baby food. Once he learned how to walk, they breathed out in relief and put more priority on making ends meet. He learned not to bother them with things that don't matter, because they would, in the heat of the moment, yell at him. Therefore, he began to learn things differently- by silently watching and imitating. It was in this way that he mustered the courage to potty train himself by watching his father, writing words with a pen (without knowing what they meant), and speaking almost coherent Korean early (since they didn't talk to him in baby-gibberish-Korean.) 

Thus, he grew up to be a fearless and reserved boy, willing to bite off more than others can chew. His parents were proud of him for doing well on his own and not being a troublemaker. Things were doing better when Hyunki's sister was born when he was 6. This time, he was able to watch as his parents raiserd her, but still they had to leave and work hard. He started taking care of her despite only just being in first grade. With his help, his parents were able to work hard without worry and his sister grew very attached to him, to the point where his mother would ask him who his sister's mom was. Life wasn't as hard on his sister as it was for him, so she grew up somewhat spoiled. Yet, later, his parents had 3 more children and more free time. They grew up being spoon-fed and coddled. Hyunki had to change his ways to make them listen to him, since they were carefree, rambunctious children. They are as annoying as hell, but he could not help but love them anyway.

Once he was 15, he took up a part-time job to support his family, but often it was not enough, to the point where he took on a second job at 17. Hyunki worked hard so then his siblings didn't have to... He didn't think about taking a chance to be a celebrity and move to Seoul until his mother lost her job. He left the house at 18 and sent money back every month since then.

Trivia:

• Hyunki becomes (consciously) Zombie whenever he's in the public with the group or in front of a camera
• He can cook well; he first learned to cook noodles when he was 4 years old
• Hyunki discovered his talent for singing when his voice was able to lull his siblings to sleep; rapping he learned from hanging out and being friends with college kids while he was still in middle school
• Zombie basks in attention from fans; he gets them going praising him as their leader and telling them that they will forever be in his rotting heart
• Hyunki is somewhat slower-moving than the average person; his mouth moves faster than his limbs at times.
• Zombie likes doing provacative skinship because fans go wild for it; Hyunki, on the other hand, is more comfortable with cuddling
• Zombie is so fleshed out as a personality that Hyunki's family treat Zombie like he is Hyunki's twin brother, to the point where they'll ask Zombie, "How is Hyunki? Have you two been eating well?", or "Zombie, can you help me with my homework?"
• Zombie is a member of his own and the band's main anti fanclub and keeps up with what they're saying (he'll often "make friends" with them to see if they're planning anything); Hyunki cannot even stand typing in the url and reverts into Zombie
• His fandom is full of halloween, chainsaw, and zombie jokes and puns, especially in the international fanbases; his fans are usually the people who like villains in video games.
• Hyunki is not very good at aegyo, because of his face; instead, he knows how to make sounds and noises that make people laugh. Zombie can too, but he has his own set of sounds & noises. This is a cakewalk for them(?) because this is one of the ways Hyunki entertained his siblings. Zombie tries to be adorably evil.
• Hyunki will not let anyone insult his bandmates, even when he is Zombie; Hyunki will get defensive and get into a tirade berating the offender like an incensed mom. Zombie will probably say something like, "No one can tear my  minions' prides to shreds!" while shuffling them behind him protectively
• Doesn't believe in using curse words, because he thinks that it makes you stupider. As in, instead of saying that the restroom is "unorganized, littered with grafitti, and stinks like a sewer", a person who uses curse words will just say that the restroom is ""
• Hyunki grew up in Mokpo and speaks with the tough and blunt accent, which everyone in Seoul teases him about; Zombie, on the other hand, has the city Seoul accent down pat
• While in A-Star, he took Mandarin and Thai classes
• In Mokpo, he had no time for himself, but that changed when he moved to Seoul. When he has free time, he likes to find, watch, and  collect butterflies, because they remind him of home. He got really excited the first time he saw one in the city, because he thought that the city would be too polluted and busy for simple and beautiful things to thrive
• He can tell when someone is really crying or not. And also he is immune to aegyo, but he might humor you, acting like it's wearing him down and then turn straight-faced again
• If it weren't for Zombie, Hyunki would have debuted as an actor

Since he knew he couldn't go back empty-handed, he started going to the smaller entertainment companies. A-Star called to tell him that they accepted him just as he was boarding the bus to go back to Mokpo.

Maybe there's this one time that Hyunki gets stuck as Zombie all day for 1-3 days after something happens? All the band members are nervous around him or inwardly get annoyed, but Zombie is just like "whatever, I'm your leader now, so listen the hell up, bishes." Things get done better, but no one is spared from his comments. Someone breaks and starts crying- that's when Hyunki is freed and he comforts them while crying as well.
