F(x)'s problem

so the Miracle of December concert is over and it seems the same arguments are being made more and more. F(x) fans are complaining that their first concert wasn't a solo while Exotics are complaining that F(x) had eight of the twenty songs (and god forbid those hussies sings with Oppa!!) there's alot of people arguing that the reason F(x) didn't have their own concert is because they don't have a fanbase, that the reason SM doesn't give them any breaks is because they don't have a fanbase, that they don't have a fanclub name because they don't have a fanbase.

As painful as it is for me to say it, it is somewhat true...

I say this because as a nameless/f(an)/f(unction)/ect from the very beginning I've noticed that F(x) fanbase is scattered all over the world (hence why they're the second highest selling girlgroup) while their fanbase in Korea is miniscule. It's the same things with U-KISS, they stayed consistently paid because of their overseas fans while in Korea they stay fairly forgettable.

if you look at the way F(x)'s "style" is in comparison to their sister group SNSD you can see a huge difference and not just because SM promotes the lovely ladies of SNSD to death (we all know it's the truth, those poor girls have to be tired) but just taking their image into account. I can't say what I've noticed is a fact, I'm not from Korea and I'm not Korean, but from the looks of it they really go for beautiful "fairy" types and SNSD is that- by far they're the group that is most like the goddess/fairy image you hear about... and then you compare them to F(x)...

I've been a fan of F(X) since day one, they debuted around the same time I began getting into Kpop and truthfully the reason for my love for them was because they weren't like the other girlgroups- they were goddesses, they were five individuals who tried to sell their individuality instead of perfection. In a way it reminded me of the girlgroups I'd grown up here in the good ol' USA, the Spice girls being a good example... but in Korea, I don't know, alot of the reason I couldn't get into alot of their girlgroups was because it was like they were looking for a bunch of robots, that all girls had to look, act and dance the same... Girls day's debut mv actually was about that (though no one seemed to get that, everyone seems to only care about Girl day's y image now -.-) I couldn't get into girlgroups because I'd been fed the idea of individuality my entire life...

but well, like I said, I'm not Korean.

I think that's one of the reasons WG didn't do much here, it was never so much their talent because we all know they're incredibly talented but well, they came to America trying to promote the way they would in Korea, their image was one that probably would have made them even more popular then they already were- alot of people then claimed it was because American is racist (which I won't right out deny but that's best discussed another day) but if you ask me I think it's more along the lines of WG lack of individuality. I'm gonna bring back the spice girls again, they came out with Wannabe and it became an instant hit because it let girls believe they could be happy with what ever type of girl they were, I mean it even got me into them and I was the biggest tomboy at that time. they introduced them selves as these five very different girls who could still be friends, who stuck by each other, it was cool and fresh was launched a mindset for girls everywhere... and then WG gets here and all America sees is five very beautiful girls singing and dancing the same moves in complete sync, which is awesome in it's own right but it's something America tries to stay away from.

I'm not saying anything bad about Korea, it's just different then America, we like different things- they like perfectly wrapped packages while Americans are more into colorful avant garde things. I think that's what my beef with SM is, at the very beginning F(x) didn't have a shot in the Korean market- Korea's not looking for a group like F(x), they're looking for a group like SNSD, they want perfection not reality... but then again, I don't think I would have been a fan of F(x) if they'd been like all the other girlgroups out their, I wouldn't of been a fan of F(x) they'd been SNSD and it's no diss on SNSD or any girl group, it's just my own taste and I know Koreans alot of other people have different tastes...

so I don't know, in the end I just don't think F(x) will ever have much of a fanbase in Korea, they just don't fit the image that Korea likes but hopefully F(x)'s international fanbase can keep them out of SM's basement, hey deserve to keep going and truthfully I don't think I'd pay much attention girlgroups if they weren't there.
