Okay. I've been having issues with this lately and decided to just vent.

What is up with all the "I'm a nerd but this cool guy loves me?" fanfictions? I guess what got me to write this was the featured fic, "I am NERD, but he loves me..." Now, besides the fact that there was no 'a' in the title and a lack of capitalization, it just irks me that someone would center an entire story about a cool guy loving a nerd.

For the record, I don't dislike the nerd and cool guy falling in love thing. In fact I think it's adorable. It's just the fact that AFF users usually (yes, usually, some people do it well) milk this nerd-cool guy relationship for all its got and make it sickeningly overdone and overwritten. Lots of "OMOMOMO THE KINGKA LOVES ME?!" (when they've never spoken) and "OPPPAAAAAAAA *cling*" after they've known each other for two days and have magically fallen in love. But wait! Then then QUEENKAS get involved because, after all, how dare a "nerd" be in love with "their' kingka?!

It just bothers me so much.

First of all, in real life, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. High school isn't as cut-throat as authors make it seem. Plus, social places in high school are malleable and can change and are nowhere near as fixed as these stories make it seem. Sure, someone may have higher social standing and know more people than others, and some may have a smaller group of friends than others and value their education. But the stereotypes just piss. Me. Off. I know lots of people who are "popular" (have lots of friends and are well liked), but they are popular and well liked because they are NICE people. If they were as y as the queenka in some stories I read, no one would like them. Nooo oneee.  And also, not only are they "popular" but they are very smart and like to do well in school. They're neither a queenka/kingka, a nerd, or a combination. They're a unique individual.

I just see nothing amazing about a "nerd" and a popular person being in a relationship. I see it all the time. The social butterfly is attracted to the girl with simple values. It's no big deal.

Now, I'm not saying people shouldn't have fanfics with this relationship. I just think it should be a supporting plot rather than the main plot. Take for example some of dbskgirl4ever's fanfictions. They have this nerd/kingka story, but at the same time she makes it interesting by using it just as a subplot; she has other things going on in the story, too.

Argh. Anyways, I just wanted to get that all out. O_O I don't mean to bash anyone who has a story like this. I just want them to realize... well, everything I just explained I suppose. Haha.
