Tonight I am going to tell you about my wonderful journey through kpop diets, and how I have edited/altered them to fit my lifestyle and work for me! I found all this information pretty interesting, and thought I would tell you all about it! If you're anything like me, you wanna take care of your body and feed it good foods, right? ^^
Well, first of all, I make sure to always know what I'm eating. I know some people just eat when they're hungry and dont' worry about it. To some extent, that's what I do, but I like to know what I'm eating and how much I'm eating versus how much I need to eat.
Pretty much the best website in the universe: cron-o-meter.
It allows you to plug in your vitals, recipes, tells you calorie amount versus portion size, how many calories you need to lose, gain, or maintain a certain amount of weight, and uses vitals to figure out how many calories a certain workout burns. And more. It's amazing. It also lets you leave yourself notes! It's free as well and I encourage you to use it.
Using that site, I usually plan my meals ahead of time. It works because I don't want to stray from it and then have to go change it feeling all guilty.
Now, moving on to foods.
EATING
Boiled Eggs
This is one of my staples. It's also an extremely popular part of any kpop idols diet! Personally, I don't like the yolk. Which is great, because the egg white is only 15 kcal but fills me up a lot when I have two!
Chicken
A cooked chicken without skin is really healthy and filling, and fulfills protein intake for the day. A lot of females don't get enough protein in their diet, while males take in too much. Idols like Uee swear by the chicken diet. Just make sure not to add extra oils (some olive oil or dressings like basil are fine though, in my opinion). Remember, a serving of meat is actually the size of a deck of cards! Lean meat is the key, and red meat should be a treat.
Sweet Potatoes
Personally, I don't really eat these much, but I'm trying too. These are really good for healthy carbs and are very filling. They're also very popular with idols; A Pink ate these a lot while training for debut.
Bananas
I swear by bananas. I eat one or two a day. They're very filling and healthy, and are 100 kcal. I always have a sliced banana with a teaspoon of white sugar, and a slice of plain wheat bread for breakfast. Yum. They are really good for you and make the perfect snack when you're trying to resist sweets! By dressing it up with a little sugar, it can help stop those naughty cravings.
Almonds
Or nuts in general, as long as they're not salted. I usually eat 5-10 almonds a day. There's a big bag of them in my cabinent! They're surprisingly filling, though 5 almonds is about 40 calories. I eat these to hold me over between meals.
Drink a LOT of water. Sure, you'll be peeing really often (lol), but you're flushing out toxins. Also, did you know that your body physically cannot tell the difference between hunger and thirst? If you think you're hungry, drink some water and wait a few minutes.
Some other tips. It takes 20 seconds for the human brain to register whether it really wants/needs food. So wait 20 seconds before opening the fridge. Also, it takes 20 minutes to register you're full. Eat slowly! On a scale of 1 to 10, you should be about a 7 or so when it comes to fullness. Eating a meal does not mean you should eat until you can't take another bite.
And please, guys. Eat breakfast. Did you know that sumo wrestlers skip breakfast in order to become that big!? Yeah! Eating breakfast kick starts your metabolism for the day. It'd actually be healthier in the long run to have a banana for breakfast and a salad for lunch, than just a salad at lunch.
The first kpop diet I ever tried was SNSD's diet plan. Eek! Although I didn't like it, I learned some good tricks from it. Just like the girls, I NEVER eat after 7pm. In fact, I prefer not to eat after 6pm. I eat my dinner very early, haha. The more you eat close to bedtime, the more fat you store at night. If you eat more earlier in the day and less later in the day, you burn off more of what you ate earlier on.
I also eat roughly 1,000 kcal a day. Hey now! It's actually a good amount for me, and I don't always reach that goal every day. I eat until I'm full and feel good. However, on days that I work out a lot, I let myself eat a bit more.
I ALWAYS treat myself once a week. Just last week I went out to eat with friends for a celebration and had a cheeseburger and fries. If you never treat yourself, you'll crack. Plus it's healthy to keep your body surprised. But, when I say treat, I mean one meal. I didn't even finish it because I was full! Haha. Also, I'm not a fan of soda or anything, but I looove Shirley Temples when I go out. But I did not get one that time, because I was already treating myself and did not want to overdo it all at once.
IU 'Dream High' diet! This was pretty interesting, though I just couldn't do it due to my own body's preferences as well as family lifestyle. The key was to "eat breakfast like a queen, lunch like a commoner, and dinner like a beggar." I can totally see how this would work for some people, just not for me.
The part of 4minute's Hyuna's diet that I follow is very simple. Replace all white things with brown things! Wheat bread instead of white bread, brown rice instead of white rice, wheat pasta instead of white... It really adds up. White carbs are so refined that they strip the food of all the good stuff, leaving the icky carbs that become fat for you to eat!
I don't believe in 3 meals a day. I believe in small meals throughout the day, as in 4-6 smaller meals a day.
EXERCISING
To be honest, I am not the biggest exercise enthusiast. I hate it most times, but I always feel good after, and during the workouts I look forward that that feeling I get when I'm done. Excersising also releases endorphines, which are chemicals in the body that make you happy!
I try to at least get up and move for 30 minutes every day. I walk the dog around the neighborhood, go for a power walk with my iPod, go for a jog or go running (I do about 3 miles for a run and .5 miles for a jog). I also find myself dancing around at night and breaking out in a light sweat, which is good.
My big workout routine, though, is an exercise tape that I do. It's Jillian Michael's "No More Trouble Zones" DVD. It's an hour of pain, sweat, shaking limbs, and amazingness. Lol but no, you get used to it, and she's really supportive without being annoying during the video. Since I've done this a lot, I just mute the TV and blast my kpop workout playlist. :)
This workout burns about 400 calories for someone my height, weight, and age. If I don't do this workout (I do it every other day usually) then I do a 200 calorie power walk and usually some dancing and light weights and or jumprope.
With running, I usually do sprint intervals. I lightly run (not slow jogging pace though) then sprint, then run, then sprint, and so on. It's really good.
Also, remember to stretch. Always. Before AND after. You'll regret if you don't, haha. I stretch every morning and night as well. You'd be surprised how much it helps wake you up, and how much more comfortable you feel after stretching as you fall asleep.
Skipping rope is good ~ IU's character in Dream High apparently did this and lost tons of weight. But at the very least it's a good way to get you sweating.
Fun fact - one pound of fat is equal to 3,000 kcal. Yep. ;) Imagine how many pieces of ckae it took to do that damage! Not much!
Biking is a very good excersise if you're not a fan of impact exercise like me (running is heavy impact).
Speaking of impact... I figure skate several times a week, so that burns a lot of calories for me. An intense session of synchronized skating (an hour) burns 500-600 kcal. Whoa man.
Finally, yoga is great. It helps strengthen your core and relaxes your body while also increasing flexibility.
Well, this is the end of my long-winded talk! Let me know if this was helpful to you. ^^ It's been really helpful in helping me lose a little weight and keep in shape! I was never overweight to begin with, but I did have some fat on me (and still do) that I don't need/can get rid of.
The best thing you can do is have a positive mindset... If you tell yourself you can't do it, trust me, you won't. I have a picture of IU to support me any time I think about straying from my diet. She's gorgeous and is one of my favorite female idols. ^^
Also, find a buddy to help you lose weight. I don't really have one, but my mum is pretty supportive. It's always good (and funny) to have someone shout from the room as you open the fridge "are you really hungry?" xD
I'm not naturally stick-thin, nor am I naturally fat. Fat tends to stick to me, but in all honesty I can really drop the pounds if I try. Not everyone will be the same, but with dedication you can do it ~ ! If you ever need a diet cheerleader you can always talk to me! xD
