when you stop in a wood...

In a forest there are sounds you can hear when you stop, and the clack of your footsteps no longer mask their presence:

The rustle of the wind through the leaves - and it is the leaves and not only the trees that sway. The solid trees actually do not move an inch in the soft wind.

There are the birds calling each other that they have found morning; and to be ware of the human on the ground. The breaking weight of wooden boughs crackle in the air.

And beneath that layer are the insects, shilling not to be found.

(I am at a resort and they have a woody walking route. I am going to follow it tomorrow morning ^^)
