A year after their divorce, Jongin longs for the home he used to belong to. A home he can never return to or a home he never really belonged

---

Jongin woke up to the annoying sound of his alarm clock. Groaning, he reached for it and stops the infuriating sound it was making. Rubbing his tired eyes, he glanced at the device and the small desktop calendar beside it. It was already eight in the morning of May 13 the date encircled with a red ink together with the note “JongSoo’s birthday”.

Today, Jongsoo is five. And just like every year, Jongin will take him out for probably a stroll in the park, watch movies or maybe just eat a cake. And after their father-son date, he will take him back to the waiting shed across the railroad where he picked him up. There, they will sit and wait and watch together the cherry blossoms spread its pink petals on the cement road while the setting sun paints the town a bright coral hue.

But more than his son’s birthday, this date is something Jongin will never forget even if he wants to.

Because just as his son turns a year older every 13th of May, his divorce with Kyungsoo turns a year older too.
