Style

Woonbyeol is very modest yet feminine with her clothing. She is often seen wearing skirts that reach below her knees or up til her ankles. Since Woonbyeol isn't very fond of showing skin at all, she has a lot of sweaters and dress shirts in her closet - but that doesn't mean she doesn't have short sleeved blouses of her own. She's not likely to dress in shorts or jeans either, says she's not comfortable wearing them, and would rather wear tights or jeggings. Although since she's the daughter of a business tycoon and a politician's granddaughter, she makes sure she dresses to impress with some snazzy yet smart looking formal/business wear.

Personality

— Yi Woonbyeol is the perfect daughter-in-law. She was raised to be someone who obeyed the rules without any questions asked and to respect those who were above you ( and also below you, respect everyone they say ). Since she was taught in a rather culturally traditional manner ( i.e. rather old school beliefs ), Woonbyeol doesn't really think she should have much to say at all ( or that no one would listen to her ). Woonbyeol is a naturally smart kid, and although she has her own opinions about a lot of things, she has never once disrespected her elders in the way that she would counter their line of thinking. If they think women should be docile, sweet, and vulnerable, then so be it. In the name of respect, she would keep shut and her opinions locked away in the back of her head. This line of thinking has been practically automatic with her, however for respect as well, she never presses her opinion on others ( especially since she knows that insisting her beliefs would result in certain clashes, and honestly she has never liked conflict ).

— At times, Woonbyeol could be seen as rather impassive ( more or less, commented as being robotic even ), however, she thinks that she's simply doing her job as the first daughter. She has an aura of royalty floating about her, and even if she smiles a lot ( a pretty smile that charms a lot of people, at that ), she is still fairly intimidating. She carries herself like a queen, ( but is ironically only seen as a princess ) cool, calm, and always composed ( people actually question if there's anything at all that would faze her ). Despite her usual quiet demeanor though, she commands attention without much effort. Woonbyeol simply has this vibe around her that - even if you're not particularly fond of her - makes you want to sit down, stop what you're doing, and listen to what she says. They do have to admit, she can be pretty persuasive when she wants to be ( people think it might be the politician blood running in her veins ). Not that she'd ever willingly express her own opinions anyway.

— A lot of people would like to say she puts up barriers around her, that her heart is trapped in this great ice wall of some sort. She is the type to put duty over everything else, and comes off as a sort of push-over to everyone else because of her lack of desire to express what she wants. Most of the time, people tend to confuse her strict obedience as a result of having had her life pre-determined for her, which might actually be the case. She, however, denies this. She absolutely abhors the fact that people think they know how she ticks, when they don't know the first thing about her. Woonbyeol might be very family oriented, her actions almost always tracing back to what she thinks will be the best for her family, however it is not her obedience to her family or to her duties that she acts like a blank canvas devoid of her own thoughts and emotions. It's respect.

— To those who can get through her barriers though ( or can understand her way of thinking ), she's unexpectedly sweet. She cares for others more than her own sake, and usually does everything she can so others would be more comfortable. Woonbyeol tends to be a bit of a worrywart for others, her general excuse being "people tend to forget about making themselves happy when they're busy trying to please others," ( which is quite hypocritical as well ). Some people find this part of her extremely surprising - they tend to forget that she's not anti-social, just very rigid in terms of her beliefs. Despite being a little more than awkward about expressing her feelings though, Woonbyeol goes to great lengths to convey her emotions. To those who deserve it, anyway.

PERSONA : the white queen

Background

of noble blood ;; when they say Woonbyeol is a princess, they actually do mean it. Although the nobility system in South Korea has long been abolished, in essence, their grandfather is one of the 21 children of the rebel prince, King Euichin. Sangmin has never acknowledged his position as a royal though, and practically severed all ties with his own immediate family, the title of the "crown prince" falling to his brother instead, Yi Sang Hyup. Sangmin believed in hardwork, and was especially fond of their eldest brother, Yi Gu and respected his wishes to "forget about the fact that they belonged to a royal family." Sangmin instead drifted into politics and has not looked back nor contacted most of his siblings since Yi Gu's death in '91.

family conflicts ;; Woonbyeol's father is the youngest out of four children, and the resident black sheep. He had not gone into politics like all of his siblings and instead started fresh and took up a winery business instead. Though they had been loaded since Joongsu's father's time, his persistence into abiding by Sangmin's "hardwork rule" certainly impressed the old man and Joongsu, in turn, became the favourite ( it was only luck that the winery business boomed and slowly became more or less commercialized ). Sangmin resided with Joongsu's family after he retired. This caused quite a few conflicts within the family, mostly some of Joongsu's siblings accusing him of bribing their father with his money. Woonbyeol and Kyunghee do not talk much with their aunts and uncles because of this, and interact more with their grandmother's side of the family instead in Japan ( via their mother's persuasion ).

caged bird ;; despite being an unwanted daughter, seeing as their family was aiming for a son ( still believing the tradition that women were, more or less, "useless" ), Woonbyeol was quite pampered as a child, everything she wanted at her beck and call. Even if the attention was divided ( obviously, not equally ) when Kyunghee was born, Sangmin's favourite was still his little granddaughter. After her 7th birthday though, her grandfather demanded that her parents implement a strict system to how she behaved and how she generally grew up, claiming that "a lady who spent her days as a child spoiled rotten would only stay rotten and useless." Woonbyeol studied in a public school before she dropped out abruptly ( around 5th grade or so ) and was homeschooled instead. She managed to enter a top-notch university and majors in business administration ( marketing ) with a minor in finance.

weddings at 16 ;; at least, she was supposed to be married off to this very rich heir of a restaurant chain ( for business purposes of course ), until her brother meddled in and ruined the whole engagement. Kyunghee managed a win of 7 out of 8 attempts at ruining an engagement for his older sister ( the last one was actually gay and ran away from home after he found out about the engagement ). Their father was quite angry until Woonbyeol personally tried to stop Kyunghee from doing whatever it he was doing by the third attempt ( to no avail, obviously ). It wasn't until Kyunghee met Siwan, who was sincerely so nice to everyone that Kyunghee felt a little guilty for tricking him out of the engagement. Siwan kind of lucked out.

Habits

— looking anywhere but the other person whenever she talks about a topic she's not very comfortable with.
— unconsciously loosely braids her hair when she has absolutely nothing to do.
— uses her pinky to cushion cups when she places them back down on the table/saucer.
— uses polite speech, even when she's talking to a friend or someone younger than her.
— whenever she feels awkward for having someone else do anything for her, or perhaps when she gets embarrassed over a compliment, she tucks back a lock of hair behind her ear and murmurs a quiet "thank you."
— whenever she gets frustrated, the satoori comes out.
— cannot swear for her life. she tried, "holy " came out as "holy shumai" ( she never tried again though ).
— taps a well manicured nail on top of any surface she can get her hands on when she gets anxious.
— twists her engagement ring around her finger when people talk about her upcoming wedding.
— seeks comfort in earl grey tea.
— crinkles her nose subtly when she hears/sees something she dislikes/disapproves of.
— even when she's completely exhausted, Woonbyeol refuses to sit in a slouched position. her back is always straight, and crosses her ankles over each other whenever she sits down. most commonly, her hands would be intertwined and placed over her lap if ever there are no flat surfaces in front of her.

Trivia

— the reason why Woonbyeol has traces of Japanese blood is because Sangmin married a Japanese woman ( which, ironically enough, was a somewhat tradition of the noble family once Japan had invaded ).
— Woonbyeol currently studies in Yonsei University ( School of Business ) and is on her last year there. They plan to have her marry right after she finishes.
— despite having more than two years to prepare the wedding, both families are choosing to do so now just in case some certain circumstances arive that they would need to push through with the wedding much earlier.
— even though Woonbyeol was raised to be the "perfect daughter-in-law," she does not actually know how to do housework. she tried to cook once, but Kyunghee had to finish up all the food she burnt ( and suffered some minor food poisoning ) so she wouldn't sulk.
— people seem to mistake Dongjun and Woonbyeol to be lovers. the only one flustered by this is Kyunghee, the two honestly don't really care about it.
— Woonbyeol also at driving. she passed the written test with flying colours, but could never pass the practical. it's the reason why Dongjun had to take his ASAP.
— Woonbyeol used to do tea ceremonies, but had to stop because university suddenly got really busy.
— she's part of the student council as a representative. despite this though, she was only ever nominated and elected because people tended to listen to what she had to say ( even though most of her speeches were made by other people and was made up of others' opipnions ).
— she really does not like green tea, thinks it's too bitter actually, but it up and downs it ( discreetly - "downing something in one gulp" is not a lady's thing to do ).
— her number one comfort food is red bean manju. Siwan always gives her one at the right moment.
— she has never had a boyfriend before. Siwan isn't even considered as a boyfriend because he had been her fiancee before he really courted her.
— Woonbyeol admittedly doesn't like shopping because she tends to buy a lot of things in one go and burns money like there's no tomorrow. Daddy has banned her from credit cards.
— even though Woonbyeol is the first child, the one set to inherit the business is Kyunghee. they don't talk about this.
— Woonbyeol has what Dongjun calls "an inhumane kind of alcohol tolerance." Dongjun likes to joke that it might be because her family owns a winery and she's been around fancy wine long enough that she's grown immune to it.
— she is not a fan of skinship nor public displays of affection at all. she rarely is the one to initiate it, although it up whenever in front of the public and is with Siwan. Siwan himself knows this and limits it to simple hand holding or an arm loosely around her waist whenever they are in need to attend a gala.
— while most only need one wedding planner, Sungmin insisted on having two for hers. Victoria is in charge of mostly everything, suggestions from her cake to her venues, to her wedding reception and rehearsal dinners. everything is Victoria's work. Sungmin however, is in charge of what could arguably be the most important part of the wedding: the bride herself.
— Hyosung insisted on having her design Woonbyeol's wedding dress. Sungmin had no other choice but to abide by it ( he likes Hyosung's designs anyway ).
— Dongjun finds it quite ironic that most of Woonbyeol's close friends are extroverts. Woonbyeol doesn't really get why he thinks it's so funny.
— Dongjun finds it quite ironic that most of Woonbyeol's close friends are extroverts. Woonbyeol doesn't really get it.
— for some strange reason, Kyunghee has a lot of connections. most of the people Woonbyeol knows were introduced by him ( she does not question how he knows of them nor does he ever explain ).
— although Woonbyeol doesn't drive, she does own a car (  a white  2012 Kia Optima ).

Immediate family :

grandfather — Yi Sangmin — 77 — retired politician — he's an old fashioned old man who still acts as if they are in the joseon period. Virtuous and expects respect in turn, Sangmin is an intimidating old man who instills both fear and admiration into those under him all at the same time. — though normally very strict with his grandchildren, especially when it comes to taking over the business or their marriage, Sangmin is actually a very affectionate grandfather. He cares a lot about his family, even though it usually does not seem like it, and will put his life and pride on the line if needed. He did, however, push Joongsu into marrying off Woonbyeol, and this kind of complicated Woonbyeol's otherwise sweet relationship with her grandfather. — 3.7

mother — Park Inyoung — 40 — COO of their winery business — Inyoung is soft spoken woman who rarely ever loses her cool. People are often reminded of her whenever they meet Woonbyeol, as they seem to carry the same regal aura. Inyoung is a very sweet woman, however, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. — Inyoung knows how a woman's head and heart works, and understands how Woonbyeol's complicated contemporary-traditional mind works ( usually under the guise of "mother knows best" ). She's extremely fair to both siblings, and is never one to show favourites. However, she is very concerned about Woonbyeol and her daughter's nonchalance over her arranged marriage. — 3

father — Yi Joongsu — 45 — CEO of their winery business — very business-driven, Joongsu is what some would call a workaholic. With their business booming and becoming as commercialized and as popular as the French market's wineries, all Joongsu can think of is how to maintain that reputation. That's not to say he's completely heartless though, Joongsu does try to connect with his kids on an emotonal level. However, with business and not disappointing his father a top priority, he can't give too much attention to it. — Woonbyeol used to be a daddy's girl, especially before Sangmin had Joongsu instill the strict rules after her 7th birthday. However, they have since slowly drifted apart and most of their conversations only include  — 2

brother — Yi Kyunghee — 20 — uni. student ; major in business administration ( management ), minor in marketing — a hot head who needs to learn how to hold his tongue, Yi Kyunghee is an impulsive brat who is in dire need of an attitude check. At least, that's what their grandfather says. He's normally very well-mannered, although his sharp tongue almost always gets him into trouble. Although he seems to be very stubborn and rough around the edges, Kyunghee is actually quite obedient and is a gentle soul underneath all that sass. — Kyunghee is very clingy with his siter, to the point that he might have a tiny case of a sister's complex over her - but then, who can blame him when majority of his life, the only person to treat him as anything else other than "the Yi Heir" was his own sister? They're the type of siblings who seem to communicate by their eyes - neither Kyunghee nor Woonbyeol need any words to convey their thoughts. Kyunghee is the only person Woonbyeol shows physical affection with, such as kissing his forehead or holding his hand ( he whines a lot about this but does not dislike it at all ) — 5

Others

bodyguard/childhood friend — Kim Dongjun [ ZE:A ] — 21 — personal bodyguard to one Yi Woonbyeol — his family has been working for the Yi  family as long as Woonbyeol can remember. not to say they're not financially stable ( because with the services they provide, Dongjun's grandparents are probably rolling in cash already ) they are simply extremely loyal to the Yi family for giving them the first step. — a somewhat hot-headed, passionate guy who knows nothing about giving up, Kim Dongjun is the almost perfect representation of a Busan guy. He's as stubborn as a mule though, but usually does as he's told ( not without a string of complaints ). He's fiercelely loyal though, and will never betray anyone who's earned his trust. — since Dongjun has known Woonbyeol for as long as he can remember, he's very close with her and is proud to be one of the few who is able to get past her barriers. as her friend, he's often very supportive of her, especially when she decides to abide by her own choices. as her bodyguard though, he's very protective of her, to the point where a few of his own friends might claim that he has a sister complex over her ( as he mentioned how he views her as an older sister instead of a boss )— 4.6

sunbae/mentor — Moon Geun Young [ actress ] — 26 — model/endorser — originally from a middle-class family, Geun Young's success as a model and spokesperson through the past years have had them swimming in foreign dollars — extremely polite, terribly naive and quite soft spoken, Geun Young seems to be quite the dainty little lady despite her aura of confidence when it comes to her work. An older sister figure to most, Geun Young is very caring, though has her devious side as well. She's dedicated to her work though, uncharacteristically competitive for the her chance at the spotlight, and always gives a 110% with everything she does. — they met on set when Geun Young was given a chance to endorse their latest wine concoction, and with their similar personalities, clicked off rather well. Geun Young has since become her voice of reason, and constantly offers a different side of the story for her to contemplate on. — 3.9

self-proclaimed life partner — Jeon Hyosung [ SECRET ] — 24 — fashion designer — she's been struggling until her debut into the fashion industry around four to five years ago. she's been living the high life ever since. — the life of the party, she's often called, Jeon Hyosung is rather extravagant and constantly acts as if the day is her last. She does, however, have the tendency to poke her nose into other people's business far too often, but she confidently says it's simply part of her charm. — Woonbyeol seems to have forgotten when exactly or why Jeon Hyosung became her friend and drinking partner. Hyosung doesn't like to dwell on this though. Hyosung tends to tease and laugh at Woonbyeol's situation, but can't hide the sympathy over her condition. Hyosung always tries to avoid talking about Woonbyeol's family, and she is very grateful for it. Woonbyeol sort of thinks that — 4.5

wedding planner # 1 — Lee Sungmin [ Super Junior ] — 27 — CEO — he is the CEO of a small, but very popular, wedding company called The Little Things. he's actually an heir of an electronic bank company, but chose to set up The Little Things instead because he's better at this stuff anyway. — he's a bright ball of sunshine who knows more than he lets on and acts as if he understands less of what he does. Though Sungmin usually acts a decade or so younger than his actual age, it doesn't mean that . His closer friends tend to call him a cunning little bastard, but he denies everything with a bright laugh. — normally, Sungmin leaves it to Victoria when it comes to talking about wedding plans. Sungmin is much more interested in Woonbyeol as a person, though most of what they talk about are things Woonbyeol considers rather trivial ( e.g. the weather, her mood, his clothes, etc. ). Woonbyeol hasn't noticed it yet, but Sungmin is starting to see her dispproval towards the marriage whenever they talk business ( i.e. the upcoming wedding ) — 3.2

wedding planner # 2 — Victoria Song [ f(x) ] — 26 — professional wedding planner — an immigrant from China. Sungmin gave her her job when his friend Kyuhyun introduced her to him. she now lives in a shared apartment with Kyuhyun. — they constantly call Victoria a fish out of water, but that doesn't stop her from trying to fit in and understand Korean culture as much as she can. Very upbeat and somewhat exhausting to be around, Victoria is almost always on-the-go and waiting for another adventure. Not to say she doesn't take her job seriously though, if anything, Victoria's inner romantic always comes up because of it and thus, she spends more than 100% in what she does. — because Victoria finds the idea of an arranged marriage between Woonbyeol and Siwan to be both beautiful and pitiful, she makes sure to do more than her usual with Woonbyeol's wedding. Woonbyeol is often flattered by her dedication, but Victoria simply dismisses it, often saying "at least once in your life, you'd have a happy ending." — 2.9

ex-fiance/unexpected dongsaeng? — Lee Jongsuk [ actor ] — 24 — student? ( not sure about this. feel free to tell me what exactly LJS is haha ) — youngest son of the CEO of YS Group of Companies — adorable but clumsy, and over-all very dorky, Jongsuk doesn't really act much like the son of one of the most powerful business tycoons in South Korea. Very sweet with the tendency of being a little too clingy, Woonbyeol is always reminded of Kyunghee whenever they meet. — Jongsuk had been ex-fiancee number 4 and she did kind of like him ( in a very platonic way as he reminds her of her brother ) but then Kyunghee ended the engagement before it could even blossom. Nonetheless, the engagement did spark a friendship between them ( one that, though Jongsuk was older, Woonbyeol acted like a noona ). Because of his very sweet and sincere personality though, he tended to sense whether something was wrong or she had been having a bad day. She's very flattered with his sweetness and has unconsciously lowered her barriers around him. — 3.9

Lifestyle

a castle on a cloud ;; she is currently a university student, and that is possibly the most normal part of her life as of now. Or as normal as it can be for Yi Woonbyeol. Seeing as neither their original home ( more of a Joseon dynasty palace, really ) in Gyeongju and their villa in Gangnam is nowhere near her university, they've acquired instead a penthouse apartment for her in Seodaemun district. As her bodyguard, Kim Dongjun naturally lives with her and also doubles as her personal chauffeur and 24/7 porter ( she can't help it if Dongjun is such a gentleman and carries around her books all the time ). Dongjun drives her back to Gangnam on the weekends she is free, but spends most of her time in her apartment ( Kyunghee visits her instead ).

Jang Dongwoo  \\ 23 \\ heteroual

Nickname(s) :

— Dinowoo ( by his friends ) ; because he supposedly looks like a dinosaur, especially when he's angry/pissed. Woonbyeol doesn't really see it though.

Language(s) known

— Korean ; born and raised in South Korea, he's quite fluent.
— English ; Dongwoo likes Western Music and learned a lot of English from there. Conversational mostly, but can easily read English.

Background

the little knight ;; born as the youngest and the only boy, Dongwoo was raised to be as great of a prince charming as he could be. Coming from a normal household whose status was only a little above average, Dongwoo has never really known the life of luxury. Not that he resents those above his social rank as well. He has never really questioned why they weren't any richer even though their octopus restaurant was pretty popular. For as long as he can remember, Dongwoo has always liked his life as is ( which confuses the heck out of his friends - who wouldn't want to be rich and famous? ). He graduated from high school and was an unexpected honor student as well - however, teachers were very disappointed when he told them he'd be entering the army right after, hoping to get a little bit of time for reflection for himself. After almost 2 years of serving in the army, he suddenly voiced out his desire to become "one of those cool cops on t.v." He did somehow prove his competence when he managed to rank up to assistant inspector in a span of three years, a feat considered unimaginable by most.

Personality

golden boy ;; the thing about Dongwoo is that it's near impossible to actually hate this guy, even if sometime's he seems far too idiotic and dorky. There is simply something about him that makes him practically... shine. There is simply something that makes him different from all the rest. With child-like innocence and naivety, Dongwoo easily captivates the hearts of many. A vibrant character who is very optimistic and playful in nature ( although at times can seem too much to handle ). Dongwoo is simply just a boy who is about as pure as a grown man can get.

don't ever judge a book by its cover ;; although a lot of people would say that they'd never expect much for Dongwoo, he always proves them wrong. He's actually really smart, and very perceptive. He does act like a simple-minded moron most of the time, but then again he usually only makes a fool of himself to try and bring a smile to other people's faces. His sensitivity and sincerity is his main assets, or so people would tell him. Dongwoo always seems to know what to say at every right moment. This makes him quite popular, but he thankfully just laughs and brushes the thought off, remaining very humble despite his every right to be some cocky little bastard. Bottom line, Dongwoo is definitely a guy who is more than what meets the eyes.

Trivia :

— once, when he was drinking with a friend of his, he compared his relationship with Woonbyeol as chess pieces. She being the queen, Siwan as the King, and he the Rook. He describes himself as the one "distantly watching and supporting the natural pair of the King and the Queen."
— Dongwoo has been compared to a boy scout since he seems to have everything in his bag.
— he's quite a crybaby ( it's a wonder how he even managed within the special ops, let alone the army! )
— not many do actually know, but Dongwoo is part of the special ops force of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency; particularly within the division dispatched most of the time to protect or handle cases wherein well-known personalities are involved. he likes flashing his assistant inspector badge better though.
— he doesn't drink often because he's always been the designated driver when out with his friends ( for some odd reason, he's the only one who seems to have a license )
— even though most of the time he seems like an idiot, he's actually very smart. he just needs motivation. ( he graduated as an honor student simply because he was motivated for the last year of high school when his homeroom teacher tricked him into thinking he couldn't go into the military unless his grades were really good.

Relationship status : their relationship is rather... complicated. they both act as if everything is completely platonic, seeing as how Dongwoo would never want to become the third party and intrude on Woonbyeol's relationship, but know at the same time that there is nothing at all platonic about their relationship.

First meeting : Dongwoo and Woonbyeol had actually been seatmates during elementary school... for three straight years. With Woonbyeol suddenly dropping out before their graduation ( and their glaringly obvious social standing differences ) though, Dongwoo admittedly could not find a way of getting in contact with her. That is, until a couple of punks were borderline harrassing a young woman in the Cheongdamdong district and her boyfriend looked ready to punch a guy. Luckily, being the ever so eloquent police officer that he was, Dongwoo had intervened and chased away the delinquents before anyone could get harmed ( or in this case, before they could sue the young man over physical abuse - Dongwoo recognized one of the delinquents as a guy who practically burned his cash over booze and women ). He was very surprised to find out that this pretty girl was Yi Woonbyeol ( three years of seeing that habit of tucking back her hair whenever she was embarrassed and thanking someone was kind of imprinted onto him ).

Almost immediately, he asked for her number or any sort of contact information, just so they could catch up. When she looked confused, however, and her boyfriend ( Dongwoo later found out that Dongjun was her bodyguard, not her boyfriend ) seemed to be ready to punch him instead, he quickly explained who he was and what connection he had with Woonbyeol. Woonbyeol eventually gave him her number with a promise to catch up soon ( Dongwoo was secretly giddy that Woonbyeol seemed to remember the sleepy boy who sat beside her )

Interaction :

i exist to protect you ;; to everyone else, Dongwoo is simply always at the right place at the right time. a saviour who seems to replace Dongjun whenever he has matters of his own to deal with, Dongwoo acts as a sort of knight in shining armor ( not that he doesn't acknowledge that Woonbyeol can probably take care of herself - hey, even he's intimidated by her ). despite how he seems to see her eternally as a princess though, he treats her like he does to any other friend of his. Woonbyeol honestly does not know what to do with him, but gets along with him quite well nevertheless.

maybe it was destiny ;; still, Dongwoo thinks meeting her again after all these years must have been fate. perhaps they weren't meant to be together, perhaps they were soulmates not destined to end up with each other in this life. he doesn't really know. all he's sure if is that there must have been something that caused the tangle within their red strings. when they're alone, he becomes a lot more serious and strains a lot to see past her facade. Woonbyeol is honestly very terrified how easily Dongwoo can seem to read her, considering that they haven't seen each other for roughly a decade. despite this though, it doesn't seem like she's doing anything to stop him.

Im Siwan \\ 25 \\ biual

Nickname(s)

— Woongjae ( by Woonbyeol ) ; it was Siwan's first name before he legally changed it to Siwan.

Language(s) known

— Korean ; very fluent seeing as he grew up mostly in South Korea.
— English ; it's somewhat mandatory for chaebols like himself, he thinks. Mostly conversational, but that doesn't mean he's no good when it comes to reading/writing.
— Japanese ; started out trying to learn the language by himself because of Woonbyeol's family background. very basic, but can hold his own in a simple conversation.

Background

with the weight of the world ;; Im Siwan is the eldest son and current heir to the position of CEO for their Italian-Asian ( fusion cuisine ) restaurant chain, Grazies. Raised to be perfect in every single way, not to mention he has been best friends with a crazy guy like Hwang Kwanghee ( God knows how this friendship had ever grown at all ), it is a wonder to everyone how Siwan has managed to stay so sane. Neither do they know how Siwan managed to perfectly balance his studies ( honour student ), his extracurriculars ( student body president ), and his social life ( quite popular with the ladies to boot ). He has been living the high life all this time, but not without consequences. The pressure alone made by his father has been suffocating ever since he graduated from university. After his engagement with Woonbyeol spreading like wildfire with the media though, it has only begun to get worse. Siwan took up his degree in Le Cordon Bleu-Sookmyung Academy, majoring in Bachelor of Business - Restaurant Management, while simultaneously earning his cuisine and pastry diplomas.

Personality

the perfect son-in-law ;; Im Siwan is anything and everything a family would want for their daughters as a son-in-law. A perfect gentleman: sweet, without meaning to nor looking as if it were flirting, and quite polite as well. He's pretty darn smart too, not just objective smart either - he's street smart and pretty observant. Despite that though, he's not one to talk too much unless talked to. Siwan is the kind of guy you can trust with absolutely no hesitations. He's very mature and level-headed, though at times can be quite timid in nature.

perhaps you're made of porcelain and steel ;; although a lot of people seem to think Woonbyeol and he are a match-made-in-heaven because of their similar personalities, but they could not be more wrong. Siwan is much more open than Woonbyeol, and likes to cause trouble with friends whenever he can. He's constantly fighting against the restraints his status as heir gives him, and despite his frail image, he never lets anyone forget that he is still a Busan man. And Busan men aren't made like fine china, they're hardened to perfection.

Trivia :

— he thinks the name Woongjae sounds too... traditional. He changed it to Siwan because of a suggestion made by his best friend, Kwanghee. nonetheless, he freely lets Woonbyeol call him so because she finds his name beautiful.
— Siwan is best at French cuisine, which is weird for Woonbyeol since their restaurant mainly uses Italian cuisine ( though often with Asian twists in it ). she doesn't particularly mind though since he's a very good cook ( his specialty is creme brulee )
— he has only recently earned Dongjun's trust to not have him as a chaperone ( blatant or not ) during a date with Woonbyeol. it's kind of his fault though since there was a time where they ran away from Dongjun's watchful eyes.
— he's really talented with the violin, and often performs out of his parents' whims ( not that he minds. he actually likes playing the violin )
— although Siwan likes to think he's good at drinking, he knows he can't beat Woonbyeol. he learned this the hard way. ( he was so pissed drunk by the end of the night, Dongjun was tempted to just dump him in the street so he would stop stinking up their car ).

Relationship status : they are engaged and to be married once she graduates (  or at least, that's the plan anyway ).

First meeting : although they have never formally met before the announcement of their engagement, Woonbyeol had known of Im Siwan as the heir, and current manager of Grazies main branch. Siwan, however, had recalled seeing her during a gala but made no motion to remember it much. Their first meeting, however, was during a date set-up by their mothers in order to introduce the two. It had been the perfect first date ( and even Kyunghee couldn't do anything to stop it ), and though Woonbyeol couldn't actually remember what happened anymore, she had been quite sure of the fact that Im Siwan would be the last in her long line of fiances.

Interaction :

like fine china ;; their engagement was a hot topic for quite a while - the real-life princess Yi Woonbyeol to be married to one of the most respectable chaebol in the country. one [ engagement ] that wouldn't end in less than a day, on top of that! they are usually seen as the golden couple, already acting as if they've been happily married for years. during galas, there is always a protective arm around her waist, and a hand subtly holding his close. whenever they are out for a normal date ( or as normal as those living the high life can get ), Siwan is always a gentleman and Woonbyeol clearly shows her appreciation for every little thing. the masses are both delighted and intrigued at how little they do public displays of affection, and yet they clearly see there is a lingering fondness whenever one looks at the other.

or perhaps a priceless paper plate ;; behind the scenes, they are not much different. Siwan refuses to touch her at all without her consent, and Woonbyeol is greatly appreciative of that fact. although, in private, they are both more intimate and yet more distanced; Siwan does not feel the need to put on a show as the couple of the year, likewise, Woonbyeol tries not to put on pretenses of being the porcelain fiancee simply there as display. instead, they share small talk with hushed voices and quiet laughter ringing the air.

Scene requests/suggestions

cat's out of the bag ;; Siwan finally comes out one day to Woonbyeol when she catches him looking at his best friend Kwanghee during a double date with the boy and his girlfriend, a pretty girl named Sunhwa. She asks him about this later that night, when they're alone inside her apartment. Siwan first says it's nothing, and denies everything she says, but then she asks him "why did you have that look of longing then?" he quickly turns back to her, mortified. He asks her how she knows and she simply tells him "Dongjun tells me it's how I look when I see you." Siwan then breaks down in her arms and admits to her how he has been in love with his best friend for as long as he can remember.

you're still my noona ;; Kyunghee confronts Woonbyeol about the arranged marriage as the wedding date looms closer. He asks her about her plans after the wedding, if she'll be leaving their household and focusing on the restaurant chain Siwan's family owns. If she'll forget about him and her family and think only of Siwan. Or maybe if she'll drop the wedding altogether and run away with a certain police officer that has been hanging too close for comfort. Woonbyeol is speechless, and can only stare at Kyunghee. He doesn't say anything when he wraps his arms around her, assuring her that whichever path she may choose, he'll still be walking with her.

— more than meets the eye ;; when a certain incident somehow leads Dongwoo's division to connect the powerful YS Group of Companies towards the underworld scene, opening up a decade's worth of cold cases. Unable to leave the topic behind, their superior orders them to get to the subject immediately. Upon arriving and requesting an audience with the president of YS-Group though, they are greeted by none other than the youngest son instead, Lee Jongsuk. Dongwoo leaves the mansion along with his superiors when they do not manage to find anything at all, but catches the eye of a certain chaebol son staring at their retreating backs. He is not convinced that this is the end.

not just a bodyguard ;; Woonbyeol walks out to the balcony later in the night ( after the cat's out of the bag scenario ), Dongjun coincidentally catches her teary eyed. Knowing that Siwan must have been involved, he swears to himself he would have a very valuable talk. Later, when he finally realizes that Woonbyeol might be in love with Dongwoo, he confronts the male as well. They both ask him the same thing, not accusing, only curious ( and he's partly weirded out by similar they are ) "Why would you go so far for her?" Dongjun answers both of them in the same manner: "You don't understand," he'd whisper, half amused and half pissed. "She's family, you hear me? And family isn't just one important thing. It's everything.

unforeseen events ;; while out on a not-date-date with Dongwoo, Woonbyeol gets a series of calls from Kyunghee that she doesn't notice until much later ( she left her phone on silent to enjoy the outing with Dongwoo ). Pausing as Dongwoo goes to get them some street food that he swears she'll love, she checks her phone and is quite surprised when it lights up and notifies her of Kyunghee's 13th attempt over the past hour. The only thing she hears is that Yi Sangmin has collapsed. Promptly leaving Dongwoo with just a simple text of "family emergency," she calls for Dongjun to take her to her grandfather. They then get into a very emotional talk regarding her future, and how the only thing Sangmin would like to see is watch his granddaughter walk down the aisle, towards her happiness. That night, Woonbyeol calls Sungmin and asks him to secure a date for the wedding as soon as they can.

runaway bride ;; days before the wedding, when both Dongwoo and Woonbyeol have come to terms that they do actually have feelings for each other, Dongwoo asks to have a talk with her. Naturally, they talk about the wedding, and Dongwoo asks her to run away with him instead. "You don't need to go through with this. Be happy for once!" he'd try to persuade her and before he breaks down he just whispers "You aren't obligated to just obey them." Woonbyeol then quietly replies "It's not obedience, Dongwoo; it's respect.
