//// Basic information ////
full name / Yi Shinwoon
other names /
Yeoshin | a play on her name by her Korean friends, which means "goddess." They gave her the name originally as a joke because she wouldn't talk to them.
► Sarah Lee | English name that her tutors gave her, which she also now uses in Melbourne.
►
SW Lee | Pen name.
Gender / female
birthdate / 11/11/90 ( 25 )
hometown / Sannae-myeon, Gyeongju, South Korea
ethnicity / Korean
nationality / Korean

languages /
► Korean | mother-tongue | has lived in Korea all her life, so she's fluent.
► Sign Language | fluent | she's fluent in most sign languages, namely Korean and American. she mouths the Korean meaning when talking to native Korean speakers, but mouths the English words in general, hoping the people would be able to lip read. recently, she had tried to learn Australian sign language because of her move. she's still working on it, but it's enough that she's able to converse with people who use it also.
► English | ? | she's never actually tried to speak in English, but as an Eng lit and language major in university, she has a great grasp of the language enough to not need a translator. she probably doesn't have a heavy Korean accent considering that she was taught by native English speakers when she was studying ASL and Korean sign language, who told her the words as they taught her the gestures.

Height / 158 cm
Weight / 48 kg

appearance /
► Shinwoon has a round face shape with somewhat chubby cheeks, which often leads to people complimenting her for her baby face. She sports a short, dyed brown cut that she usually styles with various hair accessories ( from hair pins to flower crowns ). She cut her hair shortly before their move to Australia, as a sign of "new beginnings." ( and also because they warned her it was going to be signifcantly hotter in Australia ). Shinwoon often wears light make-up, but is intensive when it comes to skin care and making sure her face is still soft and smooth by the end of the day. She puts a lot of effort into her lip-makeup, recently liking the sort of ombre effect Korean makeup usually has nowadays.

fashion sense /
► Shinwoon gets cold very, very easily. And even in Australia she tends to wear layers of clothes. She's very fond of autumn fashion, and most of her wardrobe has a rather warm to monotone palette. Shinwoon owns a lot of scarves, mostly handknit by her. She isn't fond of jewelry, but wears a brown woven bracelet made for her by her younger brother. Because she's a little on the shorter side, Shinwoon tends to wear heeled boots, or platform shoes. Shinwoon is also always seen with a brown satchel, which contains her sketchpad.

elaboration /
► Perhaps it comes with age, but Shinwoon is barely fazed by anything at all. Maybe it's because she thinks she's seen it all already ( or maybe read it all? ) but Shinwoon is just really too chill for her own good. She's the type of person who continuously smiles through stressful situations ( which often happens, given that not everyone is very understanding of her situation ), and she has in turn learned to ignore it all in favour of not getting pissed or sulky at every single thing. She often encourages the younger ones in the house to keep moving forward, and is at times annoyingly optimistic about a lot of things. Shinwoon doesn't just blindly believe in everything, however, and at times can be a little blunt when people go to her for advice. Nonetheless, she tries and continuously chooses to see the good side of things

Shinwoon can sometimes be a little too chill about everything. Since she has such a "go with the flow" kind of attitude, when it comes to people who have strong personalities, she's easily swept up in their rhythm. She's a bit of a push-over, which though causes her to avoid conflict, it's difficult for her to form opinions on everything. She's such a neutral person that it actually infuriates some people because she doesn't stand up for herself. Shinwoon easily understands people and has learned to simply accept others as they are. Mabe it's a bit of learned helplessness on her part, but she realized early on that in spite of her efforts she won't be able to change a person's opinions. Unfortunately, this causes people to misunderstand and call her someone who doesn't have a back bone. Which, if she had to be honest, was actually true. Shinwoon hates conflicts and would rather concede to another person when even the slightest chance of a fight might break out.

Despite this, though, most people wouldn't regularly seek a fight with the girl. Shinwoon has a sort of regal aura about her. That despite being all-smiles all the time, there's an odd sort of feeling that you just aren't able to close the gap between the two of you. Because of that, it's rather intimidating for the first few times you'd be stuck in a room with her. She prefers listening to people and doesn't make much for conversation ( aside from obvious reasons why ). Some people see this as her being unwilling to tell much about herself, and she won't deny this. Shinwoon tends to be a bit detached to people, and comes off as insensitive to those who strive to get to know her. She doesn't really do it on purpose though, and is almost often a little bit shocked to hear such things.

Shinwoon is a creative spirit, but that means she's also a little bit spacey. She easily gets out of touch with reality, especially whenever she's cooped up and in one of her writing moods. She's a very curious child, and quite cerebral about most things that intrigue her. Meaning, she doesn't actually do a lot of physical tinkering with whatever interests her, but tends to think about it a whole lot. She's easily distracted because of this, and even unconsciously tunes out other people because of it. But perhaps it adds to the mystique, and that's something everyone can't deny that they like about her.

background
► Shinwoon was born as the eldest of three siblings, with one younger brother and one younger sister. Her parents are both high school teachers and they lived a relatively normal life. They might not have been all too well off, but they managed without any of their kids looking for part time jobs because they needed it, so that was good.

Shinwoon suffered from childhood-onset fluency disorder, which ( as a child ) caused her to stutter greatly. Because of certain personal issues ( i.e. gossip would leak ), and with thoughts of how she'd eventually outgrow it anyway, her family had opted not to seek professional help with her speech disorder. Her stutters hadn't gone away, and one bullying incident too many had eventually made her develop selective mutism ( a speech disorder that should have been addressed ), with only her family hearing her voice. This unfortunately developed even further, and neither Shinwoon nor her family know when exactly it happened that she just stopped speaking altogether and limited herself to communicating through sign language.

Inspite of the troubles that went hand in hand with her mutism, Shinwoon feels she didn't really have it as difficult as some others with disabilities. Of course, she remains grateful for all the people she's met who have been nothing but patient with her. She studied at a special school for most of her student days, but entered Sungkyunkwan University for college. She graduated with a double degree in Korean language and literature, and English language and literature.

Perhaps she's just very, very lucky, but a year after university, Shinwoon had received an offer to sign a contract for a publishing company her classmate, Woongjae, had worked for. She had been working as a freelance writer at the time, and signed immediately. She published her first book, "My Love, Don't Cross the River," half a year later.
After her first book had sold like hotcakes, Woongjae kept pressuring her to make public appearances, but the management ( and she herself ) argued that she couldn't do so if she didn't want to talk. Woongjae proposed to see a speech pathologist soon if she ever wanted to further her career. With the royalties she made from her book, Shinwoon set off for Australia.

relationships / etc
► Parents | Yi Sangmin and Yi Minyoung | 56 and 57 | high school teachers
After moving out for university ( Shinwoon dormed ), she hasn't been as close with her parents. Though she loves them very much, she does admit that sometime before she moved to a special school and the bullying was at an all time high, she resented them a bit for not seeking professional help for her stuttering. She has since forgiven them and often skypes with them whenever they're free. She's closer to her mother than her father.

► Siblings | Yi Dongwoon and Yi Minah | 22 and 19 | university students
Dongwoon is closer to Shinwoon, being closer to her age. Dongwoon also became a sort of protector for his sister when they were younger, standing up to the kids who bullied his older sister. Minah doesn't quite understand her sister and often gets into fights with their parents for being insensitive to her unni's circumstances. Nonetheless, that doesn't stop the two sisters from bonding. Minah usually talks the most when they skype, while Dongwoon just asks how she's doing. Dongwoon is mostly the one nagging her about setting up an appointment with a speech pathologist.

► Agent | Kang Woongjae ( fc: Im Siwan, Ze:A ) | 25 | editor&publisher
a former classmate of hers in university who acted as her proofreader for their short story class ( and she to his ). After entering a publication company after college, Woongjae submitted short story drafts of Shinwoon's that he still had. He called her up, far too excited to remember that she didn't speak, and rattled off about how they liked her work and if she'd like to sign for publishing. This started a closer friendship, which eventually turned into Woongjae becoming another nagger in her life. He's naggy and pushy, but Shinwoon knows he only does so because he cares for her.

► Co-worker | Melody Ong ( fc: Victoria Song, f(x) ) | 31 | library volunteer, university professor
Melody is a nice older woman who frequently volunteers for the library. She's very motherly, and Shinwoon loves it when she brings her three year old daughter to work. Melody is very understanding of Shinwoon's position, and though sometimes she treats her like she's a little too fragile, Shinwoon is very grateful. Melody acts something like of a neighbourhood ahjumma, and frequently gives her homemade food. In turn, she asks Shinwoon to babysit her daughter, Joy, whenever both she and her husband are unavailable due to work ( this isn't really a problem for her because she usually only babysits Joy in the library ).

Likes /
► crime-novels: she loves thrillers, and detective mysteries the most but doesn't have the heart to write her own.
► hair accessories: hair pins, headbands, flower crown - whatever they are, she probably has them or would like to have them.
► patbingsoo: she sometimes makes her own because she misses Korea a lot.
► spicy food: she puts chilli flakes in her rice all the time. and in her food should she have the chance. she says it adds flavour.
► vanilla-scented lotion: it's her favourite. though cherry-scented creams also come as a close second.
► soft piano covers: she likes hearing rock tunes turn into soft piano ballads, and is the type to like the covers more than the original song itself.

Dislikes /
► horror movies: she once cried back in university when her friends and her watched a Korean horror film named "A Tale of Two Sisters."
► bitter things: she's not a fan of coffee.
► loud noises: she jumps easily at them, it's ridiculous.
► the cold: as much as she misses Korea, she does not miss Korean winters. this also extends to thunderstorms as she hates loud noises and being cold.
► YA novels: she's not a fan of them. because most of the time YA authors simply recycle story plots, so she says. that doesn't stop her from reading them though.
► beer: she dislikes the bitter taste, and has never really attempted to be accustomed to the flavour. she's picky with her alcohol in general, but definitely does not like beer.

Habits /
► when she has writers block, Shinwoon tends to sit in various weird positions to try to get her groove back ( e.g. on her back with feet propped up on the wall, on her tummy, upside down on the couch, etc. )
► taps her index finger on surfaces when she waits
► twirls her marker around when she's waiting for a response
► practices her smile when she sees a reflective surface
► gets rid of her bangs ( either via headband or a hairtie ) when she gets into a writing mood
► goes grocery shopping when she's stressed

Hobbies /
► writing/reading: back in S.K. she was an editor/proofreader, now it kind of just stuck.
► knitting: Shinwoon is kind of like a little old lady sometimes because she likes knitting little doilies and scarves. the housemates had to do an intervention once
► listening to music: she likes pop and ballads the most. she unfortunately can't understand rap.
► collecting couple items: keychains, phone cases, rings, etc. it's not like she has a special someone, so she gives the other to one of her housemates on random.
► nail art: she's good at it, too. she wants to offer to do her housemates' nails for them but she's shy about it since they aren't that close just yet.
► meditation: as a child, she had been constantly stressing out. her classmate had jokingly suggest she medidate like one of those temple monks, but she ended up doing it for real. she tends to meditate at least ten minutes each morning.

Trivia /
► she likes cooking breakfast food. everything else... not so much. she favours making pancakes because it's easy to mix and match and personalize for everyone.
► since not everyone knows ASL, she always has around a sketchpad in her bag and a marker in her pocket. she carries around pre-made meta cards whenever she has time to make them, which says "are you able to understand sign language?"
► Shinwoon personalized her side of the reception desk at the library, and has a sign that says "hello! I'm Sarah. I can't talk, so please be patient with me."
► since she knows it's a longshot for her housemates to learn ASL, and it's a waste of paper to use her sketchpad all the time, Shinwoon sometimes communicates through song when she wants to be playful or wants to bond with her housemates. she has a playlist with cut songs that only have a certain line.
► her handwriting has been said to be like something straight out of a font shop. it suprises a lot of people how fast she can write with it still being legible.
► she keeps it a secret from the housemates because most are relatively younger than her, but she tends to smoke when she writes for leisure and is why she usuall writes in cafes when the deadlines are too far away.
► for writing exercises, Shinwoon bases her characers off of the people she knows. she has several short stories tucked away in her laptop about her housemates.
► there's been a rumour from Woongjae that her first book might be turned into a movie soon.
► she can drink you under the table, anytime.

Reason for move /

With her agent pressuring her into doing a book signing and possibilities of public appearances, Shinwoon was burdened with the people around her telling her she should at least try to talk again. After persuasion from Woongjae, her parents finally relented and decided to seek professional medical help. Speech pathology however, was not as prevalent nor as advanced in South Korea as it had been abroad, particularly in Australia and the UK. After careful thought, she figured that if she ever wanted to talk again, she'd have to go to Australia.

Granted, Shinwoon does feel a little guilty. Though part of her move was to let them see she was willing to try again, most of her choice was because she was tired of being pressured to seek help. So while Shinwoon did move to Australia to seek professional help, she hasn't contacted any speech pathologist as of yet. She makes up the excuse of "I'm still earning money for sessions." to avoid going to a speech pathologist.

OCCUPATION(S)
► Shinwoon is a writer under the pen name SW Lee. She has published two books so far. Her best work is a novel entitled "My Love, Don't Cross the River," which tells the story of a brave young female soldier and a farmer she meets, set during the Korean war. The book is written in her native tongue but she's working on translating it in full as well as waiting for inspiration to strike for a new book. Her second book is a lesser known novelette entitled "Fame" with the main character based loosely on one of her housemates.
► Fulltime librarian in the city library. The "interview" was weird, and Shinwoon thinks she was only accepted because she apparently reminded the senior librarian of her granddaughter.

Daily life /

mornings: because most of her housemates are students, she lets them go to the bathroom first and ends up being the last to take a shower every day ( she's learned to take her toothbrush out of the bathroom and brushes her teeth in the kitchen sink instead ).
nights: has a night ritual that lasts around an hour and a half. this includes a lot of skin care stuff.
sundays: ( only if Shinwoon is the eldest ) she makes breakfast during sundays, but doesn't expect that everyone would eat. because she had been the eldest child in her household, she feels responsible for the kids she's living with, considering they're mostly broke college students. so she tries to at least cook for them once in a while, but sundays are a definite must.

usual day: her usual routine consists of early mornings ( waking up at around 7 am at the latest ), ten minute meditation, breakfast at a nearby deli if there was no food at home, taking the morning to afternoon shift at the library ( 9 - 5 ), walking back home with little detours every other day to explore the city.

Goals in australia /
► she wants to see watch a performance in Sydney opera house because she saw it in Finding Nemo
► although it might be weird, Shinwoon wants to know if it's true that snakes and spiders could be found anywhere, and especially in houses, so she's on the lookout for that
► successfully attend speech pathology sessions, aka, what she's actually there for

OCCUPATION(s) /
► master's student in music, with a concentration in composition, currently in an exchange program but is set to go back within half a year.
► part-time performer ( either with his band or solo ) at a small bistro, works every other night and most weekends.

personality / etc
► The thing with Dongwoo is, it's near impossible to hate the guy. Even if at times he seems far too idiotic and dorky. There is simply something him that makes him practically... shine, a certain something that makes him different from the rest. With child-like innocence and naivety, Dongwoo easily captivates the hearts of many. A vibrant character who is very optimistic and playful in nature ( though at times, this can be a little too much to handle ). Dongwoo is simply just a boy who is about as pure as a grown man can get.

Although a lot of people would say that they'd never expect much for Dongwoo, he always proves them wrong. His emotional intelligence is actually his strongest point, and he's actually quite perceptive. He does act like a simple-minded moron most of the time - and though he really is just a simple guy -  he usually only makes a fool of himself to try and bring a smile to other people's faces. His sensitivity and sincerity are his main assets, or so people would tell him. Dongwoo always seems to know what to say at every right moment. Bottomline, Dongwoo is definitely a guy who is more than meets the eye.

love story /
► Dongwoo meets her in the library, lost and confused and more than a litte bit panicked at the thought of him not finding the required readings for his music composition midterms. Flustered, he approaches her and is dumbfounded because he didn't really see her sign and stares quizzically as she writes him a note along with the directions to where he can find what he's looking for. He becomes more and more curious about her and hangs out more often in the library after his midterms where he eventually gets to know the young writer.

Dongwoo asks her to teach him sign language one day, so she'd be more comfortable talking to him. Flustered, she refuses and tells him she's fine and that it's fun when he tries to guess the words she mouths. He relents and doesn't bring the topic up again. They spend more time with each other at the library ( and at times even outside ). Shinwoon spends her breaks listening to him hum and write down song lyrics while he rests from the academic rush by watching as she types away at her laptop. Their friendship eventually evolves into something a little more, as Shinwoon becomes painfully aware of how she doesn't even need to write anymore - Dongwoo is perfectly able to understand her even with just a look.

Before his time in Australia is up, Dongwoo invites her to watch him perform the next night at the bistro he works at. He surprises her by attempting to sign his date invitation, and though his hands are shaky and sloppy, she's touched.

ending / Dongwoo will eventually move back to South Korea, but they keep in touch through technology (!!) and hand written letters every month, because Shinwoon appreciates them a lot. Her next big hit novel is about a small town boy with a golden heart, who uses songs to communicate with his childhood love.

relationship status / friends (?), at the very least, Dongwoo wants to think so.

//// g'day mate! ////
final words / thanks for such an interesting concept! i tried to make it as original as i possibly could, but it seems this can also be for the 003 plot? u v u or maybe that's just me. i hope you enjoy reading through this as much as i loved thinking up of this story! i can't wait to read more from you~

Oh, by the way, if you need more pictures of Shin Sol Ki, just tell me and I'll link them to you! >u< thank you!!

scene reqs / etc
► a scene where the housemates unexpectedly answer Shinwoon with sign language! Shinwoon proceeding to cry like a baby despite possibly being the eldest of the bunch.
► open forum night where the person w plot 004 opens up to the roommates about why they left SK
► Shinwoon's first speech pathology session. accompanied by either Dongwoo or the housemate she's closest to. they hear her stuttering badly, and she comes out of the session near tears, but incredibly satisfied.
► Dongwoo asks her about her music taste since he always sees her with earphones on during down time in the library. they eventually start an impromptu conversation using songs from their respective devices. "songs sometimes say something when people can't have the courage to do so," he says and plays her an unfamiliar song that he eventually reveals is an original that has yet to be finished.
► one of the housemates feeling homesick and someone else comforting them, they end up talking about South Korea and how much they miss it. some of the other housemates overhear and suggest a bbq party to make them feel a little at home.

password / it's not a kpop song but my current favourite is This Side of Paradise by Coyote Theory ( and for a kpop song it's INFINITE's Love Letter )
