Personality: Mina can be described in various ways; smart, logical, rational, sommon with a common sense, obedient, stubborn - even a bit enigmatic - yet one thing she's not, is energetic or fun. This girl started maturing at an early age of her life, because she thought playing games was embarrassing and younger children just immature. She's a linguist and a fan of Shakespeare and botany, having various sorts of plants and book collections in her bedroom. Fond of animals and children, she's a naturally nurturing character who finds it hard to express her emotions. Background: Choi Mina was born on April 11, 1994, to Choi Jiyong, an author, and Choi Jaehwa, a music teacher and pianist, in Jeonju, South Korea. She is the younger twin sister of Yuna and the youngest in the entire family. When she was 4, her parents moved to Busan for a change of scenery and to get closer to her father's publishing company in Seoul. Her father was a big fan of Shinhwa and brought her and her sister to one of their concerts, where both of them fell in love with their stage presence and unity. Mina was taught how to play the piano soon after that, with help from her mother and the internet.

 

Mina's sister Yuna used to post videos of herself on YouTube, where she herself was sometimes featured whenever a partner was needed. She was scouted when she was walking home from after-school lessons and was approached by a representative from SM. She declined it at the time, but when she and her sister were at the mall, they were approached again and this time Yuna convinced her to try it out. They auditioned through the SM Casting System 2010.
