PERSONALITY
+ Attentive, diplomatic, hard-working

— Nervous, hypercritical, aloof

Kyueun has a very attentive type of personality. She is quick to notice little details that others may have missed, and she is good at making people feel important and included. Her ability to listen draws many of her friends to her for support and counsel. Those who do not know her well, however, will see a much more aloof side to her. She does not make friends too easily because of how shy she is in new social situations and her generally reserved nature. Not many would say she is unapproachable, but she definitely appears inexpressive and cold at first glance.

In general, Kyueun's way of approaching situations is diplomatic in nature. She is careful with her words as she has been raised to be polite and respectful of those she was taught to respect—mainly elders and the authority. This often makes her the mediator in an argument, trying to find a solution that will appease both parties and make the best out of what she has to work with. Kyueun isn't fond of conflict at all. They make her nervous. She doesn't have a lot of confidence in things she can't control, and she can prove to be a bit worrisome at times, be it towards people she cares about or situations she doesn't completely understand. It's not easy to read her face as it tends to be on the blank side, but she is an open book with her body language, making it easy to see when she's out of her element.

Kyueun is a hard-working soul. She puts a lot of effort into the things she does, particularly if it's something she enjoys and/or is good at. It makes her reliable and goes well with her attentive nature. Her pursuit for perfection tends to start with herself, causing her to have high standards of herself and others. Her eye for details gives her an edge here, making it easier to spot errors and missteps, but also causes her to become somewhat hypercritical of it. She has a big tendency to point out even the tiniest of flaws, which can annoy less work-oriented individuals. She does it out of a need for everything to be on point, which is admirable, but can be tiring and has led to more than one sleepless night because of her fussy behavior.

BACKGROUND Nam Kyueun's luck was marked from the day of her birth as she was born on Friday the 13th. She was raised in Hamyang County, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, as the only child of a single mother. Her mother worked as a nurse and often took several shifts in order to support their little family, which often caused Kyueun to be by herself at home. She kept herself busy through studies and trips to the local bookstore to look at books, magazines and manhwa. She felt a little lonely after school as her friends had extracurricular activities whereas she had none since they couldn't afford it at the time. Her maternal grandfather did teach her to play the piano, however.

Their financial struggles came to an end when Kyueun was twelve years old. Her mother met and fell in love with a man who would soon become Kyueun's stepfather. With him, he brought a son, with whin she got along fairly well. As their economy improved, so did Kyueun's social life. She began doing gymnastics as well as attending dance classes. This caused her to come out of her shell more, even if she wasn't as elegant as some of the other trainees.

Kyueun first came into contact with her powers in high school. After pulling an all-nighter to study for a test the following day, she accidentally set fire to her own homework—this was likely due to the levels of stress she was experiencing at the time. She didn't tell anyone about this experience, not even her mother, and moved on with her life. This would not really affect her until she moved away from home to attend university in Seoul. Here, she became roommates with Euijin, who she'd known since childhood.

The moment that truly changed her life was during her first year in university. Having just finished a rather tough exam, the two roommates decided to go drinking together. Neither of them were exactly drunk by any means, but Kyueun had always been a light-weight compared to her friend. On their way home, they were being followed by this group of people, and one of them was pretty openly harassing the two girls with his words. When they refused them, rather harshly in Euijin's case, their shape shifted into this hideous dark form. Euijin was quick to take care of them. The shock of this caused Kyueun to pass out. When she woke up the next morning, she was on the couch with Euijin by her side. She could remember snippets of what had happened, and Euijin revealed the truth.

She was a halfling; a half-angel, half-human being. And so was Kyueun. Kyueun was speechless by this. Euijin was probably expecting some sort of panic from her, but all Kyueun did was sit there, completely still. And when Euijin had her back turned, Kyueun walked off. She didn't ran, but she felt the need for a walk. Once everything got processed through her head, she ended up calling her mother for advice. She told her everything that had happened. The trip to town, the creepy group of people, said group turning into these demonic beings, Euijin taking care of them and her admittance this morning. Her mother took it all in and then explained the situation to her.

It was all true. Kyueun didn't know what to say. She had never known her birth father, having believed he either walked out on them or passed away when she was a baby. Apparently the guy wasn't even human. Euijin discovered her at the park with an entourage of two others; members of the ANA. She had panicked a little when Kyueun simply disappeared like that and had called in backup in case of emergency. She had been tasked with watching over Kyueun since their younger days. Her mother had apparently kept ANA away from her in hopes that she could have a more normal childhood, but as an adult living on her own, they felt like it was time, and with last night's incident, there was no use hiding it anymore. If she wanted to survive as a halfling, she'd need training. And she agreed.

Nowadays, Kyueun tries to maintain a certain level of normality and routine to her life. She still lives with Euijin as strangers terrify her, and she trains with the ANA outside of her studies and part-time job as a bookstore employee.

TRIVIA
+ Her favorite flower is morning glory, which is her birth flower.
+ She's very fond of manhwa and has a fairly large collection of it in her apartment.
+ Not a big fan of the horror genre, though she has no problem with gore.
+ Has a fear of fire as a result of being caught up in one as a child. The fact that she survived was perceived as a miracle at the time.
+ She has never dyed her hair before.
+ Her hobbies include stargazing, reading, painting and collecting fridge magnets.
+ Very fond of traditional Korean barbecue, particularly bulgogi and samgyeopsal with grilled kimchi and garlic.
+ Her habits include playing with her hair and biting her lip or knuckles.
+ Allergic to dogs, but tends to be fine as long as they don't shed too much fur around her and she has her meds with her.

ABILITY holy fire manipulation
             ribbon

HOLY FIRE MANIPULATION Kyueun has the ability to create, shape and manipulate holy flames, which are effective against demons and other evil beings and cannot be extinguished by normal means. It may also trap and/or immobilize (less powerful) angels or demons, rather than killing them outright. Her powers include light manipulation, creation of fire and manipulation of existing flames. These are, however, connected to her life force and should not be overused. Overuse will cause her to feel light-headed at best, prone to blackouts at worst. Her emotions do influence her abilities to some degree as strong emotions can cause them to flare up while a lack of confidence or will can cause it to weaken. She is not immune to the effects of it herself, unless she wills it away from her at touch, so she has to be careful whenever she uses it through more direct approaches.

RIBBON During her time in gymnastics, she also did rhythmic gymnastics, which involved the use of a ribbon. She may not have been as elegant as the others, but she knew how to follow a rhythm and allow the combination of the music and her routine to tell a captivating story. It was one of the areas she shone the most. With the ANA, they developed a ribbon that was laced with a chemical component which allowed it to catch aflame without burning away. Its length and material allows it to be used as a whip if the need for it arises.

NAME Yang Taehwa
AGE 22 years old

HOMETOWN Seoul, South Korea
ETHNICITY Korean

RACE Human
ABILITY None
PERSONALITY
+ Confident, resourceful, warm
— Blunt, cynical, headstrong

Taehwa is the kind of human to stand out with her presence alone. She has a very confident air about her that attracts others to her side. Not one to care much about the opinions of others, she goes her own way in life and has a tendency to do things her way. She does have a bit of a cynical outlook on life, however, having been someone who was taken advantage of in the past, she's always on guard when it comes to new people in her life.

She is a very smart and resourceful kind of person, having the ability to come up with quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties in life. Her way of thinking is very logical, but also out of the box—which shows a creativity that is reflected in some of her interests. But while she's a smart cookie, she's not too good with words. She is extremely blunt, often to the point of hurting others. If she doesn't have anything to hide, she'll say it. This makes her extremely direct and obvious in what she wants, which can prove to be both a good and a bad thing.

Taehwa is the oldest of seven siblings and has developed quite the caring and protective persona over the years. Under her hard surface is a warm person waiting to shower someone with affections. She's not very open with her affections, but she's bold when she wants to be. Subtle flirtations is not for her. Taehwa is also quite a headstrong one. She's not going to back off so easily, and she will fight for it for as long as she has to if it comes to it. She's not unreasonable and will back down if the argument is fruitless, but it can sometimes take time for her to realize this. She's also very serious about challenges and bets, so expect her to take them on if she can see herself winning them, even if by a small margin.

YOUR RELATION Taehwa was actually someone that Kyueun met on her previous place of work; the university campus bakery. She was having lunch with a classmate and came in to order. After she had finished, Kyueun found her staring right at her and asked her if she had something else on her mind. With that, Taehwa flat out told her:

"You're very cute in that apron."

Kyueun nearly dropped a foam cup at that, and she became rather flustered and stuttered a quick thank you. Taehwa simply smiled at that and walked outside with her order. Kyueun's co-worker was confused to put it mildly, but didn't say anything in regards to it. When she told Euijin about it later, she just laughed and wondered how anyone wouldn't find her visually appealing, which only prompted more awkward flushes from the girl.

They later met again when it turned out that they had a class together. Taehwa invited her to a group study session, which Kyueun agreed to, albeit reluctantly. She wasn't too comfortable at the session itself with so many strangers around her, so Taehwa suggested a more private setting next time. She felt grateful by that and tried to ignore the way her pulse increased ever so slightly.

As study partners, the two got along well enough. Taehwa proved to be a smart one, although a little on the lazy side in terms of reading, so Kyueun made sure to teach her a couple of study techniques in exchange for some help with things she could not get her head around. She once found herself looking at Taehwa for prolonged periods of time, which Taehwa did not miss out on. Once, she even stared back, not really bothering to hide it. That caused Kyueun to excuse herself to the bathroom for a bit. When she came back, after calmed down some, Taehwa was quick to get it running again.

"Wanna go out with me?" she asked, eyes still stuck on the page in front of her.

Kyueun blinked. Once, twice. "Go out... w-with you?"

"That's what I said, did I not?" Taehwa responded, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"I... okay."

So they went on a date. Which turned into two dates, later three and four and such and so. While Taehwa took more initiative in the beginning, once Kyueun became comfortable enough, she was definitely up for it. And once she discovered that the older girl could indeed blush—quite brightly, might I add—she had her fun with it. It turned into a game of who could tease the other more, though it was all good-natured banter.

Their relationship develops in the midst of Kyueun finding out the truth about her past and her powers, which is a secret she has to keep from Taehwa. It hurts like hell (no pun intended), and there are times she is really tempted to let her know. Taehwa is aware of the fact that there are things Kyueun isn't telling her, but considering they haven't known each other for too long, she doesn't push it.

It's very difficult to see that these two are romantically involved. As it is generally acceptable for girls to be affectionate with one another in public, seeing the two holding hands in the streets doesn't raise many eyebrows. In the beginning, Taehwa is hesitant to commit because she is afraid of being hurt, but as time goes on, she finds herself being very protective over Kyueun. Once she actually relents and calls the girl her girlfriend, she is also very honest about it to others. Kyueun has to ask her to stop it since South Korea isn't too accepting of people like them. Taehwa doesn't care, but sees it's important to her, so she complies. They're affectionate enough in private anyway. Kyueun is actually very good at figuring out what Taehwa likes, which is definitely a delight to them both. Kyueun is actually very easily embarrassed at the start of their relationship, but she gets used to Taehwa's teasing ways and even returns them later like they would as friends.

QUESTIONAIRE

q: if offered back something/someone you once lost, would you grab the chance?
a: It depends on what this person or thing might be. I am not the kind of person to 'grab the day', as you might call it, but I would be for it if it was important enough and I could trust the source.

q: would the dark side tempt you?
a: ... No. I am already destructive enough to myself on a daily basis. Why would I wish that on someone else?

q: if your mission is to kill someone of your own, would you do it?
a: I... I don't know. I've never thought about it like that. If there was no other way, maybe. Please don't make me consider it.

q: what weakens you?
a: I don't have many people in my life, so I treasure the ones I do have. If anything were to happen to them because of me, I don't think I'd be able to live with myself.

q: what is a happy ending to you?
a: If you are referring to the classic from fairytales, I'd say there is none. Life is hard and very, very real. Still, a happy ending to me would be one where those I care for are safe. Where there is no immediate danger to our lives and we may worry about other matters than survival.

WISHES OF AN ANGEL
+ A meeting between Kyueun and her father.
+ Taehwa finds out about everything in a rather interesting manner. (Or not. I'll leave that part up to you.)
+ Kyueun using her burning ribbon to -slap some demons.
+ The gang going out drinking and showing off their drunk persona.

ANGEL'S VOICE I hope you like Kyueun. It's been some time since I applied to anything, so it was fun to get that chance for this!
