Background : Nami was born to Kang Jooyi and Kang Young. Since she was 3 her mother wanted her to realize her dream of being on TV. She was on several commercials and dramas. When Nami's father's store became bankrupt her parents divorced. Nami was 8 when her mother got remarried to a japanese officer and moved nami and her brother to tokyo. There her mother signed her up for modeling, acting and dancing classes. In the first year she was there she was very isolated from other people and focused a lot on her studies and classes. However she couldn't see her father and wanted to go back to korea. Her father decided to bring her back to korea and when she turned 9 she went back to seoul. She began to make friends and even met her best friend Heesun, she was finally having a normal childhood. However she missed dancing and wanted to become a singer like Lee Hyori. She auditioned for YG and was accepted. From then on she trained everyday without a break.

When she turned 16 in 2006 a lot of changed happened. Her father opened his failed store again and began designing and became an overnight success which meant they moved to a nicer place and a lot of people started to become nice to her for all the wrong reasons. Big Bang also had its debut stage, there weren't a lot of trainees she was close to so after they debuted and became busy she didn't have anyone to practice with. It had already been six years since she became a trainee and her vocal abilities and her dancing had improved a lot, she was getting modeling jobs both in korea and japan but she still hadn't debuted. At that time when she really wanted to quit her mother threatened she didn't raise a quitter. She basically made a 180 turn after that. She stopped just practicing dancing and singing and started putting her emotions into what she was doing and slowly came out of her shell.
