So it’s been about a month since I have updated people about the beauty pageant that I was possibly going to do. Well all I have to say is I was terribly disappointed in it.

While it was clear that it might have actually promoted self esteem and awareness in the community there was one major obstacle for every participant.

Money.

The pageant was set up fairly well and was well organized, but when I got there to the meeting at the hotel I quickly realized something. Everything was set up to get money out of the families that wanted to do it. There were advertisements for not only the pageant, but things connected to the pageant. I understand though that the entry fee is needed considering that the grand prize alone is $30,000 dollars. However, I felt sad seeing the way that some girls faces dropped upon hearing the entrance fee.

The girl next to me had whispered to her mom “Well I knew this was too good to be true. It’s just like that junk mail I keep getting” or something along those lines.

Not only that, but it was clear that members of the staff had already picked out a few girls. Now I can’t say for sure if I was one of them, but my mom and I were talked to by three different coordinators for the pageant and had all of our questions answered almost right away. But during this social “tea time” (THE TEA WAS A LIE! IT WAS JUICE AND COFFEE) I ended up talking to a girl my age and she said her mom and her gave up trying to talk to people about more specifics. She felt like every time they approached someone they would turn around and walk away.

I decided not to do it for five reasons

1)   I felt like it was too expensive and I could spend my money on something else

2)   Even though it’s more about personality they began to exclude people with personalities they weren’t drawn to immediately

3)   They advertise it’s for everyone, but then the entrance fee makes it impossible for some people to enter. Which I think is wrong…

4)   I’m WAY too busy to take anything else

5)   I’m just a really lazy person

Well that’s all I’m posting for now. I will hopefully be posting blog updates more often. I can’t always guarantee they’ll reflect my great sense of humor, but hopefully they’ll get some discussion going or something. Here are some topics I’m thinking about doing
