Ah Young is a tomboy with a wild side and a secret love for astronomy and mythology. She can be rather unpredictable, because she loves testing the waters and getting a reaction from those around her. She has a lot of energy and appears rather confident in front of people, but this isn't the only side of her. She has a thirst for knowledge and a natural curiosity which often gets her into trouble. A bit of a people pleaser, she wants to get along with everyone and can become quite needy when close to someone, but she tries really hard to stay independent.
Secretly, Ah Young is rather insecure. Not about herself, but what she is unable to do. When she gets to do the things she loves, she becomes happy and has a lot of faith in herself to the point of becoming a bit arrogant. Expectations from others and expectations towards herself have led to a lot of hard work, but also a lot of crying herself to sleep at night and long hours at the library or practice room. She wants to become someone for others to be proud of, and is very insistant of continuing something she's already started. Background :
Jung Ah Young was born on April 20, 1993, to Jung So Jin, an author, and Jung Byungsoo, owner of a cathering company in Seoul. She was raised in Busan, South Korea, as the middle child among three in a family of high expectations and standards. When she was young, her family used to travel a lot back and forth due to her mother's career and research, resulting in a bit of a friendless environment until elementary school. Here she met and had her first relationship, which lasted about two weeks.
Ah Young's parents separated when she was ten, and divorced four years later. Her father packed up and moved to Seoul, his hometown, while So Jin stayed in Busan with the children, who would travel back and forth between their parents during the holidays. Ah Young found it incredibly stressful at times and would calm herself down by listening to music along the way, getting the chance of being oblivious to the rest of the world. In middle school, she started becoming really invested in music. Whenever she did homework, she would plug in her ear buds, find a pair of pencils and hit them against the edge of her desk as the rhythm streamed in to her brain. She would find herself dancing in the privacy of her bedroom or singing in the shower, even more than usual. She decided to take it further and taught herself how to play the guitar online due to her family's hesitations of hiring a teacher.
Ah Young was in high school and had finished after-school studies when she was approached by a scout from Pink Entertainment. Being the curious person that she was, she decided to give it a shot, singing Ailee's Rainy Days during her audition. She was accepted, much to her own and her family's surprise, but was determined of grabbing the chance while she still got it. She wasn't about to back off now.
