minhyuk is a regular 20something year old, except that he dropped out of college to be in a band with his roomates, yukwon and jihoon, and his neighbor, kyung. taeil, a friend made through music production, lives with kyung, and choi junyoung, yukwon's girlfriend, basically lives in yukwon's room, even though she seems to like minhyuk more. the biggest problem in minhyuk's life right now is his unrequieted crush on yukwon.

when yukwon comes home one day with a split lip and bruised rib, his biggest problem is finding whoever did this and killing them.

when yukwon's girlfriend is kidnapped, his problems become too numerous and entangled to pick a number one.

there is a ransom note left behind when junyoung goes missing, but the amount is far too high for any of them to hope paying it. jiho, kyung's visiting boyfriend, suggests they rob a bank. minhyuk is the only one who thinks this is stupid, but he's never really liked jiho so maybe he's a little biased.

they wait until october 4th, picking out the bank, disguises, weapons, even inviting their other, previously-unknown-to-minhyuk friend jaehyo. the night of, minhyuk is nervous, dizzy, unsure, and actually ends up passing out.

when he wakes up, he's in a twin bed, jaehyo in another on one side of him and an empty one on the other side. he has a splitting headache. he sneaks out of the bed and out of the room. in the hallway, he bumps into taeil, who's carrying a huge tray of food, dishes, and silverware, and follows him to the dining room. there, kyung and jihoon are sitting at a long table, waiting to eat. they won't answer any of minhyuk's questions, and the food tastes like ashes in his mouth, so he quietly excuses himself.

he wanders around the vast house for a while before coming to a big room devoid of furniture save one chair, in which jiho is sitting. though he is the last person minhyuk wants to talk to, he is compelled to ask, and jiho explains many things to him. he opens by introducing himself as a demon king, and explaining that all of the people he had been spending the majority of his time with were demons of the royal kind; kyung was his consort, jihoon and yukwon were princes, taeil a butler, and jaehyo a jester. they had been stuck in the human world because the artifact they use to go back and forth had been stolen from them. getting it back had been the real reason they robbed the bank, and they had needed minhyuk because they needed someone of mortal blood to complete the transportation ritual. they had originally introduced jaehyo, in the form of junyoung, in order to seduce him, but had quickly changed the plan when it became clear his affections lay elsewhere.

minhyuk feels used and confused and leaves the room, to try and get some fresh air. he sees jaehyo and he assaults him with questions. minhyuk uses the conversation to trust in yukwon's honesty again and goes to find him when jaehyo has assuaged his fears.

he does eventually locate yukwon and they talk, and minhyuk is happy, even though he's feeling dizzy again. yukwon asks him if he'd ever want to come back to the demon realm, and he answers affirmatively before losing consciousness.

when he wakes up, he's in his bed, in his apartment, his head aching and yukwon shifting under the covers beside him.
