바이올렛 스타 ❀ Violet Stars

choi, younghee

Hello, my name is ttw

❀ Overview

character name: choi younghee
nickname(s): ms. textbook - thanks to her almost encyclopedic knowledge of the idol industry, and the fact that "younghee" is a name that's often used in korean textbooks.
international age: 20

birthday: june 10th, 1993
birthplace: bucheon, gyeonggi-do, south korea
ethnicity: korean
languages: korean (fluent), english (she's learned a lot from foreign films but isn't totally fluent.)

❀ Outside

ulzzang: su eun
backup ulzzang: kim soo yeon (gallery)
appearance: gallery

height: 167 cm
weight: 51 kg

style: on any given day, younghee's wardrobe will be simple: a t-shirt and jeans with a pair of converse in whatever color she feels like. (she has quite the collection.)  younghee doesn't really see the point in dressing fancy; the most effort she puts into her appearance is a dash of eyeliner or lip gloss if she's going somewhere special. she also wears glasses - not to look cute, but because she's so nearsighted that when they're gone she can hardly see straight. on stage, she uses contacts.

extra: none; she looks pretty similar to her ulzzang.

❀ Inside

character traits: studious; melancholic; strong-willed; strict; unflirty

personality:

studious - from a technical perspective, younghee is the best performer in violet stars. when she takes up something new, younghee makes sure to learn everything she can on it. for example: when younghee became a trainee, she read everything she could about the idol industry. books on trainees, trashy magazines - younghee took all of it in to be the best she could be. one of younghee's greatest pet peeves, though, is being called intelligent. she's really not. she's not genius, she's not somebody who has eureka moments, and she's not somebody who discovers things. the only "Smart" part of younghee is her capacity to remember things. younghee is also quite the bookworm; she'll read everything from self-help to scifi, from john green to john steinbeck.

melancholic - in a four temprament ensemble, the melancholic is described as introverted and task-oriented. she's passionate about what she likes to do - which is, rather than being an idol and performing, learning - and has high standards for herself and others. she expects perfection from violet stars and the rest of the team, and if/when they don't achieve that, 9 times out of 10 younghee will get upset about it. when younghee's upset, you'll know. she'll bury her nose in a book and refuse to speak to anyone, because clearly, they're not good enough for her. when people make her mad, it's one extreme or the other: younghee blames herself and hates herself for a few days, or she'll blame other people and hate them for a few days.

strong-willed - younghee's known to at variety, because she hardly does anything without thinking of every consequence first. once younghee has an opinion on something, it's almost impossible for her to change her mind. if something involves younghee potentially embaraassing herself, she thinks of the most logical way to do something before she does it. if younghee's brain/encyclopedia has a solution to her problem, she'll do it, but otherwise? no way in hell.

strict - goes hand in hand with her perfectionism, really. younghee makes sure that the girls of violet stars are doing their technical best all the time. she doesn't care about vocal runs as much as she does about pitch. she doesn't care about the freestyle parts of the dance routines the girls do as much as she does that the  choreographed part is exact and crisp. she tries her best to make sure the girls are 110% perfect at the things they can be perfect at. that also applies to waking up in the morning. younghee is the member that wakes the ladies up in the morning, in order to make sure they're exactly on time and in order to not make their lovely van driver upset.

unflirty - don't get me wrong - there are about a billion foreign celebrities that younghee finds attractive, but real guys she has a chance with? no thank you. she's been set up by friends on dates, but due to the fact that younghee's been smart enough to read dating books and learn everything any guy could potentially do to her, nothing ever ends well. younghee's never been kissed, and she has no interest in being kissed by any boy any time soon. she'd rather play it safe and stay single than have to deal with reading relationship book after relationship book to prepare herself for the big, scary world of dating.

likes:

 reading
strawberry soda. the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, and the way to younghee's heart is a strawberry soda.
anton yelchin, who is her celebrity crush squared twice.
 rainy days.
 the colors grey and black.
news parody. it's not very common in korea, but she gets it where she can find it.
trashy magazines. reading is reading and those are her guilty pleasure.
 games requiring preciseness, like tetris.
 converse sneakers.
nighttime - everyone's asleep, so it's an ideal time to read or watch movies quietly or practice.

dislikes:

loud music. younghee's more of an adult contemporary person.
 being disturbed while she's reading.
 imperfection - she hates it.
bad korean movies. she makes an exception for bad foreign movies, but ones from her home country just aren't her thing.
books that take too long to get to the point.
romance novels that are more than substance.
self-help books, the only thing younghee refuses to read.
 wire frame glasses.
fanfiction where she's portrayed as "the smart one".
improper grammar, which she can't help but correct.

habits & hobbies:

 reading, reading, reading.
practicing - so she's technically perfect.
 netflix.
braiding a small strand of her hair when she's trying not to get angry.
 learning.

trivia:

younghee's favorite song is utada's "this one (crying like a child)". she's a huge utada fangirl in general.
her favorite books are the fault in our stars, of mice and men, kafka on the shore, and harrison bergeron.
 younghee's handwriting is incredibly messy.
younghee loves sherlock holmes, and watches all of its adaptions, new and old. she also has a box set of all the books in the dorm.
if being an idol doesn't work out, younghee thoroughly plans to write a best-seller about her experiences in the group.
younghee hates being touched. she's like a skinship black hole.
younghee's ipod contains a lot of adele, coldplay, eric nam, sungha jung, u2 and utada.
she's trying to learn how to play the piano, but so far she hasn't been picking much of it up.
younghee watches all of violet stars' performances, so she can look at what everyone need to improve on.
younghee fell in love with anton yelchin after watching star trek for the first time, and the rest...has been history. she has a poster of him and lists him as her ideal type.

❀ Biography

background: younghee's friend's parents often compared their children to younghee when she was growing up. her grades were flawless as a kid - large memory, remember? - and she seemed like another bookish nerd in school. at home, that was true as well; she often snuck into her father's study and read books he would usually deem as off-limits. throughout school, younghee didn't have a crapton of friends. the closest she got were the members of her study group, who often went to younghee for academic advice (And not a lot else.) up until she became a trainee, younghee's goal was seoul university; she'd study to become a writer and writer best-sellers. other than that? a normal childhood for a studious girl.

family:

 jung, haeri | 53 | mother | housewife | caring; extroverted; kind; genuine | 4
choi, junghwan | 53 | father | thrift store manager | strict; genuinely intelligent, not just somebody with a large memory; philosophical; a bit distance | 5

❀ Idol

stage name: younghee
stage persona: mom's friend's kid
soundalike: kamei eri - link

singing: 7 (Something like a lead vocalist?)
rapping:
3. she's really not good at rapping, but she knows what constitutes a good rapper.
dancing: 5.5

stage personality: she doesn't differ a ton from her normal self, really; the "smart one" aspect of her personality is played up a bit more and she often spouts random trivia, but other than that she's pretty much the same. she's not particularly charismatic on stage or anything, though; you'll have to be watching specifically for younghee in order to see her, but she always does pretty well.

trainee history: younghee was part of her high school's choir, and at her graduation, she sang a solo. she was scouted, natch. at first, younghee refused the offer - college was the way she was going - but after the naggings of a very persistent talent scout, younghee decided to audition for the hell of it. cue her getting in. (note: younghee asked for one month of freedom before she became an official trainee. she spent that time doing her research.)

her actual trainee life was a lot like her school life. younghee got asked by a ton of people many questions about how to be technically perfect. she answered but made sure that she herself was doing well. (she practiced as much as humanly possible.) and then, one day - she got the news she was going to debut.

idol friends:

kim, myungsoo | infinite | quiet; weird; introverted; passionate | 3 | once upon a time, younghee had a gig backup dancing whilst infinite was promoting. the rest...

❀ Love

love interest: do kyungsoo
backup: byun baekhyun

personality: kyungsoo's a different kind of smart than younghee. for one thing, he doesn't make it known; when it slips out it's one-off comments, and for the most part, he keeps things inside. in a four temperament ensemble, kyungsoo would be both melancholic and phlegmatic; he's introverted, but not specifically people or task oriented. he's sensitive to other people's feelings, is polite, and very mannerly. much like younghee, kyungsoo harbors high expectations for people, but he's more likely to harbor those expectations (and the hurt feelings they may well cause). he keeps his hurt on the inside no matter what, but remember to beware the nice ones: when kyungsoo's mad, you will most definitely know. his nice exterior hides some pent up badass-scariness.

backstory: they didn't actually meet until preparing for violet stars' collaboration with exo. their voices blend pretty well together, and hence they have a lot of lines together; they were forced together, but really, it was just a bunch of awkwardness for the both of them. kyungsoo introduced himself at the end of the recording, and younghee made absolute sure he knew that she wasn't interested. he was one of the few guys that understood that; things blossomed from there.

relationship status: friends! really close friends. kyungsoo's one of the few people that meets a lot of younghee's expectations, instead of just one or two, and she's very grateful for that. vice versa for kyungsoo, though younghee has no clue she's meeting his as well. they can have intelligent conversations with each other and younghee learns new things about being nicer from kyungsoo. her personality's changing, little by little - becoming nicer - because of him.

as to if any of their feelings for each other are romantic? that's another question; there's subtext, maybe, but neither of them will acknowledge it ever. they plan on staying friends even if they fall for each other, how ever much that hurts.

❀ Finale

scene suggestions: a bit later in the story, if/when younghee questions how she feels about kyungsoo - he gets her a strawberry soda one day because he knows she likes them. adorable.

comments: i hope i didn't go all literature-nerd on you. more on for temperament ensemble stuff is here in case you need help explaining that; i tend to refer to a lot of tropes when i'm doing applications and i really hope they make sense to non-tropers! gahhh i hope you like younghee. or not. it's chill. c:
