Is it better to have you story as 'subscribers only' or 'members only?'

I was wondering because I see many of stories as 'subscribers only' or 'members only' and sometimes both. I'm confused at why people have these on the story. Is it better to have them written that way? I'm curious at why many authors use it.

I never knew there are still some people who copy the work from others it really ticks me off. So, for the safety of my story I think I will probably change it to 'subscribers only.'
Thanks everyone~ :D

I use members-only because I want my fics exclusive for AFFers only. Meaning, you must be logged in to be able to view members-only locked fics. Resource, layout and graphic threads use subscribers-only to keep track of who can access the freebies and services they provide since some users here steal stuff. The privacy settings were created to protect stories and limit those who can view or read your story.

For me,authornim as a reader...it's better to have your story as subscribers in order to catch the attention of the readers and you will know who are they at the same your story is protective, whereas if it is a member only they can't able to read your story especially if they are not your friends. Then base on my understanding also,Another advantage of subscribers is the readers will force to subscribe cause they like to view the chapter 1 if they are not contented to view the foreword cause they will see to it,if it is really a good story. The more your subscribers & views, the more the readers will catch their attention.

Personally for me... or at least with my DaraHae fanfics.... I like knowing who's reading my fanfics. Plus I've had people try to steal my stuff before so at least with the subscribers only, I know who's exactly reading it and I could narrow down which people tried to steal my stuff.
