130817 Chen + Baekhyun on Immortal Song 2

If you haven't seen Chen and Baekhyun singing Lim Hee Sooks "I Sincerely Didn't Know" on Immortal Song 2, then I highly suggest that you check it out, because they both did a phenomenal job with the performance. Here's the link! In terms of vocals, Chen and Baekhyun are my biases from EXO-M and EXO-K, respectively. I am just so happy that they had this wonderful opportunity to appear on Immortal Song 2. Not only is it incredibly flattering, as vocal idols, to be invited onto the show, but I think that this will be a great learning experience for the two of them. In EXO, they do a lot of dubstep, hip-hop, and R&B music, and they're great at it. But I think that singing these heartfelt ballads on the show will help them learn to connect on a more emotional levell with the songs they sing as well as help them improve technically.

Plus, I just really think that being on the show is going to help them a lot; Immortal Song has always been one of my favorite shows. In the kpop business, idols always have their songs and music prepared and written ahead of time and there isn't really a lot of space for creativity and aristry. I think what makes Immortal Song such a great program is that it allows idols on the show to gain back some of that creativity and artistry. When they sing these old trot songs and ballads, they're reinterpretting the lyrics of the songs and finding new, fresh ways to present it to an audience that has heard these songs for decades. As a writer, I always have a hard time taking old, overused things and turning them into something new, but the process of doing so always helps me discover things about my ability that I didn't know before.

I hope that Baekhyun and Chen have that sort of experience on Immortal Song. I hope that as long as they keep appearing on the show and singing ballads and old songs, they develop their talents and experience some sort of personal growth as artists. This is a great opportunity for them to get away from all that cookie-cutter that have to deal with from the Kpop industry and just be singers for once. Even though they didn't win with Lim Hee Sook's song, they're definitely on the right path, and no one can deny that they nailed that performance.

I always complain about EXO's harmonization. Okay they have nice gorgeous voices but sometimes when they sing together especially baby don't cry in the chorus part when 4 of them sing together is just plain BAD. They drown out each other's voices resulting in a not so good live performance. But heck when I watched this episode I was really gaping at my computer screen THE WHOLE TIME. The emotions and the high notes and the harmonization of course is just WOW! Chen and Baekhyun really did a good job. I hope to see Suho, D.O and Luhan perform in the future too.

It was beautiful.
Winning or not, the way they sung it was beautiful.
Maybe the technique was not perfect, but it's definitely heartwarming.

I agree! Immortal song gives them a chance to be creative and artsy. EXO is part of the fixed cast and they will switch between members for the performances. So D.O, Suho, Xiumin, Chanyeol, and the others will most likely perform.
