Seeking the New World Reflection

Wow... 415 days since I first started Severed!

To be honest, I never expected a lot of attention. It doesn't compare to a lot of the more popular stories but it's a lot to me.

Thanks for sticking with me for over a year of Ja Young's adventure and I hope the ending was somewhat satisfying to you all.

If there are any questions you want to ask me, just comment below and I'll reply to you as soon as I can.

There were a couple questions from gummyhero6 asking: How long it took to do my research, getting the plot down and what inspired me to write the series.

I think my research started in my second term in Grade 11 so that's March 2012 after a holocaust survivor shared his testimony from World War 2. I had an image about the concentration camps in mind, as gruesome it is to make an adaptation to. And I started Book 1 on June 26th 2012, so it took a little over three months to do my research and come up with a prototype plot.

At first, I was going to use places around the world like South Korea, Russia, Japan, China and Egypt, but I figured that it would be more interesting if I created my own world. I did more research for some tips on how to make my own world (and it took me three days to come up with the name Shugo). So during work periods at school, I spent time making notes on how the plot should be, who the main characters are and a character web for each person. I used some techniques and tactics from music theatre to create each personality for each EXO member and the Hong twins. I was actually going to make this story into one fanfic but the plot I constructed was very long.

I think what inspired me to write the series is that I wanted to create a story where there was a hero that saved "something" or "someone", so I had to think about the conflict Ja Young needed to have. In the end, I think I had a combination of character vs self, character vs society and character vs character. That is partially why the plot was so complicated. When I read Akacchiin's The Legends series after confirming the plot, I was almost resorting to scrap the entire project, but I think what kept me going was my own strive for originality in AsianFanfics. I am also an avid soundtrack fan, and I get a lot of various ideas when I listen to different music. I also watched a lot of superhero movies like The Dark Knight, Spiderman, Thor, X-Men, Superman, etc. I think I would want Ja Young to be a superhero if I could, but I think Ja Young in a fantasy genre (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter) would be more suitable.

Hey, it actually makes me happy to hear a lot of responses from you readers! I do appreciate silent ones, but it makes me very happy to hear you guys out. Thanks so much for sticking through with Hong Ja Young and EXO for 415 days and I hope I'll make a comeback with a new fiction soon!

Lots of love,

-OrigamiRose
