"Old Moon" is based on the January Moon, also called the Full Wolf Moon, where the wolves can be heard howling most clearly of any time of the year.  "Androcles Among Wolves" would be more of an allusion to the story of Androcles (or similarly, the Lion and the Mouse), and also "among wolves" would add a dimension of underhandedness/secrecy/"wolf in sheep's clothing", which is important later.
