Personality: Mei is a very bright and cheerful girl. She always start her day with a smile because she believe if she starts her day brightly, everything will go on smoothly for the whole day. She rarely cries, because she always feel that she need to be strong for her friends and family, especially her dongsaeng.

Mei does not express her feelings openly and her inner self is contained and secretive. Many people do not know how sensitive Mei really is, she hide it well. As a result, she is often emotionally hurt when the wrong things are said, she take things too personally sometimes. She avoids talking about her emotions and many people never really know how she feel except for her close friends as well as her members.

Mei is easy going and not one to pick a fight as well as calm but if someone attempt to provoke her, the wrath will be known, because she have a temper underneath the calm surface. Background: Mei is the first daughter in her family. Her father is a Korean and her mother is a Chinese. Her mother ran away from home before she met her father because of home-abusing. Her mother died after giving birth to her and her father get married again with the manager of one of the shelter homes that he build for the unfortunates. Her step mother is very kind and she takes a very good care of both her father and her. She then gave birth to a daughter, Hwang Ji Eun.

Their parents then died in an accident in 2008 and since then Mei forced herself to work harder to support her sister. Luckily their parents left them with a big sum of money from the insurance company. Mei was scouted in 2009 when she sang live on stage for one of the charity concerts for the shelter homes. Since then, she was trained in SM. She accepted it and try her hardest to make sure she'll debut so she can fully support her sister's as well as her education in the future.
