Sugarless (J-Drama) review

I just finished the japanese drama Sugarless and now i'm gonna review it ^^

I really like gang fighting dramas and up until til now Bad Boys J was my favorite, but Sugarless took 1st place. I thought Bad Boys J was a little boring sometimes, but it was good. Because of that, i didn't have much expectations for Sugarless, but already in the beginning of the 1st episode i was hooked!

This drama is about a guy named Shiiba Gaku who transferred to a new school. He wants to become the top of the school, but for now Syake (Shokichi) has that position. In order to get into a fight with him, he has to beat the 3 1st year students first, Marumo Taiji (Suzuki Nobuyuki), Mukai Shiro (Sano Reo) and Urabe Osamu (Machida Keita).

I had a sort of love-hate relationship with the main role, Shiiba Gaku. Gaku is the type of guy who is clumsy and kind of stupid. He kept on fighting and fighting, even though he always got beat up. Yet, his mind didn't take this in at all. He was all like "Hah?! Me lose to a small fry like you?! Ha, in your dreams!", but he did actually lose to "small fry" (a nickname he gave to the first guy that beat him up in episode 1).

I think it's really amazing and stupid at the same time how his brain doesn't even know that he lost, but i couldn't help but fall in love with his character.

He's also pretty sure he's dating Haruka, a girl that goes to his school, which is not true at all. The girl doesn't even like him... yet.

But as the drama kept going on, i realized he wasn't stupid at all (even though he does have his clumsy and stupid moments with Haruka). He teaches everyone a good lesson and therefore the whole school, even the Top respects him. He says several times that he hasn't lost until he admits it himself.

Even if he's beaten so hard that he has to go to the hospital, he still doesn't back down. He gets right back up on that horse and fights. I really can't decide if that is just plain stupid or really admirable. Something in between maybe?

The ending... i'm really really confused about the ending. I'm not gonna spoil the ending for anyone, but with the way they left it, they better make a movie, special or a season 2!!!!!

I don't know if they will or not. If not, then the ending kind of . But even so, because of everything that happened in the drama, i'll look past that. I can live with it, because the drama was incredibly amazing!

I also think that Gaku reminds me a lot of Suoh Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club. They do have somewhat the same personality.

If you like gang-fighting, you gotta watch this drama! Seriously... this is one of the few dramas i can watch over and over again without getting bored.

My score: 10/10 (but if there is no sequel to it, then 9).

Here's the intro to the drama. The song is called "Brave It Out" by Generations. The 3 guys Shirahama Alan (Shiiba Gaku), Sano Reo (Mukai Shiro) and Machida Keita (Urabe Osamu) is a part of that band as well along with 4 other guys that did not star in the drama =)
