WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT KRIS AT HAPPY CAMP 2013

The original post has some English translations, but certain parts are incomplete or hard to understand. WARNING: What you are about to read will make you fall more in love with this man, so stay away if you want to avoid excess feelings.

1. The first time Tao rapped, why didn’t Kris come out? Because he was in the back lending his microphone to Chanyeol, whose mic wasn’t functioning. Unfortunately, Kris’s mic didn’t work either, so they began beatboxing and rapping silently.

And when the hosts asked him later why he didn’t come out and rap, Kris didn’t ask for another chance to show his skills, but merely complimented Tao’s rap, saying that he was completely into it and the atmosphere was strong enough without him. It was Na Jie (t/n: literally Na Noona, how everyone calls the MC Xie Na) who said, “Ok why don’t you guys try again," and that’s how this selfless kid got to stand at the front of the stage once more (it was originally meant to be a rap duet anyway! TTTT)

2. Did you notice how when Suho stepped down from the high platform because he was scared, the first one to offer his hand was Kris…

3. When everyone was watching the secret room videos on the screen, Kris quietly told Tao to squat down to avoid blocking the audience’s view (because the poles labeled 6 and 7 were in the middle of the stage).

4. After choosing Tao as his partner in the sitting game, Kris immediately turned around to shake hands with Suho and Lay, hoping they wouldn’t mind (aka Hyung still loves you guys!). He really cares for every single member.

5. When Kris first squatted down during the last punishment, he was on his tiptoes (this is very shaky). Thus, when Baekhyun sat down, their unstable center of balance caused them to fall. There’s a small detail here: when Kris realized they were falling, he immediately kneeled down, but not to the normal extent. Instead, he stretched out his knees as far out as possible to prevent Baekhyun from falling down harshly, using his thighs as cushioning for Baek to sit on.

6. Whenever Kris sings a solo song, he likes to scratch his head. According to psychologists, this is due to nervousness mixed with a bit of shyness. Hopefully, he’ll gain more confidence in the future; “The Night When I Miss You" sounds really good!

7. Before Kris began singing, a fan yelled “Hurry up!" in an unfriendly tone. After Kris heard this, he turned towards this side and said to the fan in a super gentle voice, “Ok, I’ll go slowly." (t/n: some comments say that the fan was actually telling other fans to hurry up and record fancams, leading Kris to say he’ll go slower so that more fans can capture his singing on camera)

8. In one fancam, He Laoshi (t/n: literally Teacher He, how everyone calls the MC He Jiong) said, “Have you noticed that there are two people who’ve been hogging poles five and six? They’re D.O and Kris." Then, Na Jie revealed the truth, “People who choose the middle aren’t usually attacked." Kris, whether the question was regarding the scaredy cat, the childish one, or the member most popular with girls, you always chose 5, 6, or 7. You don’t enjoy being the center of attention or the main focus of the camera. You always give chances to the other members, what else can I say?

9. When discussing the visual of the group, Chanyeol wanted to go back into the line when he realized that no one else stepped forward. However, Kris pushed him to the center of the stage and encouraged him to promote himself. This reminded me of last year’s episode; when asked if anyone wanted to take the punishment for the MCs (an easy way to gain more broadcast parts in the program!), Kris translated for Chanyeol and Sehun first, then raised his hand last.

10. But how about his turn? During the introductions, Kris suggested Tao to start, but was voted to go first by others. Fortunately, He Laoshi pulled him to the front, or he would have just stood in the back like a dumb kid (t/n: the OP is being affectionate here, implying an innocent child with no malicious thoughts). Even still, he only said one line, “Hi everyone, I’m the determined and calm Kris," before stepping back, so I really have to thank Na Jie and the other MCs for continuing to ask about his appearance changes and his preference. Otherwise, he probably would have been skipped over. Still, after finishing his introduction, Kris quietly returned to his position with the other members…

11. The same thing happened during Tao’s rap. Kris wanted to quietly rap from the back, but He Laoshi pulled him forward.

12. When the MCs asked why he’s the dad of the group, this kid didn’t compliment himself at all, but simply replied, “Maybe because I’m tall." But we all know about you buying the members food and bubble tea in Hong Kong, translating the whole way there, refraining from complaining while being rained on, translating wholehearted in mainland China too, and taking on the role of setting the run-through with the MCs and directors. You always put forth your best effort - definitely the most reliable daddy!

Call me crazy but I see some similarities with Kris' and Amber's personalities. Ok, I might sound biased here but think about it. Amber cares a lot about her members and doesn't want too much attention. People say both need more attention but they're the ones that doesn't want it. Some people say they don't have the talent to talk in events but they try to make others stand out more.
I like how humble the two are.
