Firstly, u have to be sure if he is talking abt u.
Secondly, this is something I say to guys who hv crush on me. I say that only coz I don't want them to have any hopes. It is also a 'nice' way of rejecting someone.
He is basically asking u not to have any hopes. The final decision is ur's. U can give up on him or not. It's up to u. I'd say, go for it if he is worth it. If he is being an abt u having a crush on him, it's better u stop.

i don't think he meant it in a bad way... it seems like he actually 'cares' for you? if you really like him, tell him you won't give up. or at least stay as friends? idk.
