Chae Min is born in Beijing, China to a wealthy family, with her mother being Korean and her father being a Chinese. From young, Chae Min was groomed to be the next successor of the family's company because she didn't have any other siblings. However, Chae Min was not at all interested in the business sector. She had always had the passion to sing and dance, to enter the entertainment industry because she respected and idolized those artists. Despite her family's opposition, Chae Min secretly pursued her passion. She went back to Korea to enter high school on the condition that she would eventually come back and take over the company. However, when Chae Min was in the second grade of high school, she was scouted by S.M. Entertainment casting agent. Chae Min knew that this was a chance she couldn't miss and she became a trainee.
