For Yoochun's Birthday

Happy Birthday dear president :) Here’s a short fic for you….

(I don’t know I just had the urge to write a short fic because of a post on tumblr)

It’s Yoochun’s birthday.

Kim Jaejoong kept telling himself that it’s Yoochun’s birthday and he shouldn’t be in such a sour mood. But he couldn’t keep himself from frowning and sighing even when they neared Yoochun’s favorite restaurant which they rented for the night.

He’s mad. No, he’s beyond mad. He’s furious.

“Hyung…hyung?” Changmin’s voice called from across him. He looked up to meet Changmin’s worried gaze and all he could afford was to roll his eyes in return.

“Come on hyung lighten up!” Changmin said. “Today’s Yoochun-hyung’s birthday…”

“How can I lighten up. You’re here and he’s not.”

“Yunho-hyung?”

“Who else?” Jaejoong felt his headache build up but he held the tears back. He looked at the three pairs of eyes on him and huffed.

Yoochun leaned closer beside him. “It’s fine hyung. He told us he’s busy right?”

“Yeah, it’s not his fault there was an emergency fan meet.” Junsu, who was beside Changmin, said. And his statement was immediately met with two pairs of death glares.

“Emergency fan meet my .” Jaejoong knew it was just another stupid reason to not see him and he’d been furious because he’d go to great lengths such as not attending Yoochun’s birthday so long as he’d get to avoid him.

“I need a smoke.” Jaejoong fidgeted before he got up to walk out of the restaurant.

Changmin shouted from behind him. “Wait! Hyung! If Yunho-hyung catches you smoking he’ll get really mad!”

Jaejoong ignored him. He doesn’t care. Yunho doesn’t care, why would he give a himself? He’d been missing the taste of cigarettes and he always take a drag or two whenever they fight.

He bough a pack from the convenience store across the street, lit one and leaned against a traffic post. The street is pretty quiet and empty except for a few stores closing. At 11 pm, the street’s almost desolate, the pavement wet from the constant and heavy rainfall that somehow magically stopped tonight, and it’s cold.

It was never his intention to say it. The timing was off and he blurted it out three days ago like it was some sort of bad walk-into-a-bar joke. It wasn’t flashy, it wasn’t thoughtful. He was there on his sofa, feet up on the coffee table with Yunho beside him watching TV.

“Hey. Let’s get married.” He said to Yunho while smiling.

And there he thought Yunho was going to laugh it off, criticize his proposal then eventually say yes. But Yunho’s expression changed. He frowned and stiffened from his seat and looked at him speechless.

“What?” He persisted.

“Uhmmm…” Yunho replied nervously. “I have to think about it.”

”What?” He asked again, feet now planted firmly on the carpet. “What is there to think about? We’ve been together for so long I can’t even count how long anymore!”

Yunho stayed silent, his eyes darting of somewhere else. Jaejoong reached for his hand and squeezed it. “I want to make it official, I mean really official. Out of the frying pan and into the flame. I want the world to know about us.”

Yunho pulled his hand away stood. “Uhmmm I gotta go.”

Jaejoong watched him go, slightly stunned. He leaned on the backrest when Yunho walked out of the apartment, not having the slightest idea what to do.

They hadn’t talked, and he hasn’t called since. Jaejoong’s too proud to call him and that’s why all he can do right now is sulk and smoke on his own. He doesn’t want his sour mood to rub off on the other three members.

He dropped the cigarette on a puddle of water and it hissed. He turned to go back inside the restaurant but he saw Yoochun running toward him, ecstatic. Yoochun grabbed him and pulled.

“Come on! Hurry!”

“What? What? What’s wrong?” Jaejoong asked but his questions were ignored until he was pulled back inside the restaurant.

The radio on the counter was loud and Jaejoong stood a little gobsmacked when Yoochun approached it and turned the volume louder.

His breath hitched and his pulsed quickened when he recognize the voice, laughing with the DJ.

“So Yunho-sshi, you told me your requested song already, care to tell us who is it for?” The female DJ asked.

Jaejoong looked at the other members and found them smiling at him. They rarely listen to the radio and the radio wasn’t open until he walked out. He glared at them and accused, “You knew?!”

Yunho’s voice stuttered, a little embarrassed. “I think we all know whom this is for.”

The female DJ giggled. “Would you like to give that special person a message before I play the song?”

“Okay. Jaejoong-ah…” Yunho trailed.

Jaejoong thought he was going to faint when he heard his name.

“Let’s make it official.” Yunho continued. Right then, Jaejoong’s heart sank and he could feel his eyes swelling.

”Thank you for calling Yunho-sshi.” He heard the female DJ again and Yunho saying goodbye.

He heard a phone click shut behind him and he turned around to see Yunho smiling just as the song started playing.

Forever can never be long enough for me

To feel like I’ve had long enough with you

Forget the world now, we won’t let them see

But there’s only one thing left to do.

“It’s been my plan to propose but you beat me to it.” Yunho laughed. “And when you asked to get married I thought you knew and that one of the members ruined the surprise.”

Now that the weight has lifted.

Love has surely shifted my way..

Marry me…

“So?” Yunho shrugged. “You ready to make it official?”

Jaejoong’s damn broke and his tears fell. He hugged his boyfriend tight and whispered. “Been ready since forever.”

Yoochun who had flipped his phone open to record everything whispered to Changmin and Junsu while laughing.

“Happy Birthday to me! Best gift ever!”
