My opinion about some stories
Warning: I'm going to be brutal about this but I'm not indirectly referring to specific authors on AFF.
I was a little bored yesterday and I decided to look at the fanfics some authors posted on my wall and I've been branching out on others.
Oh. My. God. Are you serious? I actually had to grimace at the unbelievable number of grammatical errors and spelling because I admit that I'm such a nitpick about it. I know I'm probably gonna be borderlining on bashing but I'm not saying that my english is perfect. No one's is.
Here's the next thing: I accidentally clicked on an author instead of the story title and I could not believe my eyes. There are at least a few handfuls of people under 13. Maybe it's because I'm almost graduating high school that I absolutely can't stand elementary school writing. I learned how to write professional essays since I was twelve and my teachers have been really critical about them.
I actually don't want to admit this but this has been in one of the most darkest places in my heart. There are a lot of random stories that I thought the authors were high and I was really careful on which stories I read. So far, storylines are definitely repeated. Really? Nerds and Kingkas equal true love? Even in Korean schools, I don't think it's possible. Be a bit more realistic please?
I'm sorry, devoted fans, but I strongly believe that love at first sight does not exist because I just assume that girls are so shallow and superficial. It's the same with music because I need some depth in love lines or plotlines in order for me to nod and say, "Not bad. Not bad."
Although I'm Korean, I also strongly believe that many drama plotlines are just plain stupid. Where are the obstacles that bring two lovers together? Where's the growth? Where's the psychological reason instead of infatuation? I think many fanfics should be more original to gain some recognition or respect because adaptations of the same loveline is very boring.
I'll be honest. A lot of authors have writer's block because their plotline isn't original. It's hard but I think that a well thought-out fanfic would work so much more. It took me about five months to plan and scrap bits and pieces to write Seeking the New World. I thought about a lot of different historical events that happened and how many events could connect to EXO. I'm not saying that the best stories are the ones that have a lot of background research but have some kind of depth that keeps the reader motivated.
This is purely a rant about my experiences with fanfiction (which started when I was twelve actually). For those who I would have definitely offended, I sincerely apologize if I insulted you but I need to let some authors know how I read their fanfiction. I am a perfectionist and very nitpicky, so it's understandable if you're hurt. This is a warning from me if you want me to review your stories but I'm also willing to help you improve. I respect your stories but please don't test my patience because I'm not a god.
