A Story of a Short Person

LOL before I start, note that this is all made in good humor and is based on a true story-mine. It all started with a conversation with my homie HippierJ and, well, here we are OTL.

Enjoy.

Many proclaim the cuteness and adorableness of short people, regardless of their size in girth. I myself have received this kind of what most would call a compliment. However, I beg to differ, as those who insist that short people are cute and adorable are very often tall people. Or they are at least of average height. Thus, they do not understand the pains and shortcomings of having a small stature. But before I continue to explain my logic, or flawed logic as some might all call it, allow me to introduce myself.

Those of you reading this know me as Ambertastic_baby, which is quite obviously my username. However, allow me to go a tad more in-depth about myself. My name is Priscilla, and I'm an extremely short Asian of Chinese (that was originally German. Don't ask. Or ask if your curiosity is that greedy.), Thai, and Malaysian descent. Here's the part I'm sure all of you are waiting for-I am 5 feet tall, or 152.8 centimeters if you do not come from the nonconformist country called the United States, and I weigh 84 pounds, or approximately 38 kilograms (again, if you do not come from the United States).

Now, you are perhaps questioning me and wondering what I have to complain about my stature. Well now, it all begins with the word fandom. Among my many fandoms are Harry Potter, SuperWhoLock, and the Hunger Games. Unfortunately, or perhaps very fortunately, another fandom I belong to is the kpop fandom. What is the kpop fandom? Well, I'm not going to go into it because I will naturally assume you know what it is considering you are currently lurking on a website (among many, might I add) dedicated to that fandom. Continuing on. What is so painful of being a fan warrior (yes, fan warrior because a fangirl simply sounds to feminine for my taste) in the kpop world? Imagine this.

You are a five foot tall female (Or male. Whichever gender you choose to believe you are.) and you are about to meet your favorite kpop artists. It's backstage, and you're waiting to get a picture and/or signature from them. Here's the catch: most of them are at least 5'6". Of course, there is the exception of one Lee Min Young a.k.a. Min of Miss A, who happens to be 5'2". Sadly, you are still two inches shorter than her. Is there more than enough emphasis on the word shorter? No? Then allow me to make your life more miserable with the next few images.

It's finally your turn to meet the idol of your dreams. It may be whoever you choose. However, I shall use Kim Jonghyun in this example as he is notable for being the shortest male artist in SM Entertainment. Or at least he was the last time I checked. But I digress. You finally meet him, as well as the rest of the SHINee members. Let's just not even get into the idea of you meeting Choi Minho because let's face it. Your height difference with Jonghyun is already terrible enough. Let me remind you that your height is a mere 5 feet. Moving on. You finally meet Jonghyun and you stand next to him to take a picture with him. You smile brightly for the camera, excitement reflecting in your eyes. But that all fades away when you hear a smug snicker. Slowly turning, you realize that the sound is coming from a grinning Jonghyun. The other SHINee members appear to pin it down to the vocalist's usual strangeness. However, you know that there is more to it. After all, you aren't a fan warrior for nothing; you know what every movement, every action, every expression of your bias means, and you are worried.

Only a few seconds later, your concerns are confirmed. He said, still choking with laughter, "I am not the shortest one in the room anymore." Instantly, you feel mortified, ashamed of your height. You quickly bow at the group and hastily make your way out of the room, ignoring the members' cries for you to come back and that Jonghyun didn't mean it that way.

And this imaginary scenery comes to an end.

What was the purpose of this? It's a scene that I myself often imagine, and shudder at when I return to my current surroundings. Of course, it may not necessarily be simply about Jonghyun as I have many biases, the ultimate one being Amber Josephine Liu of f(x), which you should have deduced from my username. If you did, I applaud you. If you didn't, I suggest you sharpen your observation skills. Anyways, the point of this was to show how it is rather depressing for a short person such as myself to meet a kpop idol, or anyone really. There may be people who are shorter than me, but I can assure you that those kind of people are very rare on Earth. I cannot be certain of whether or not this is true on Mars. I shall report back to you when there are groundbreaking findings on that topic.

To conclude, please consider the feelings of the short person you are planning to compliment with the words cute and adorable. They may not find it insulting, but it may cause them to think about their height, with their poor hearts slowly shattering into small pieces and getting run over by the impatient blood desperately wanting oxygen. As someone with short stature, it pains me to know that more than 97% of the people my age that I meet will be taller than me. Simply painful, shameful, and almost taboo to think or speak of. The key word is almost. Or else this entire narrative would be completely moot. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read this. Miniature me truly appreciates it. Thank you.

There's shorter than you, like me! *shouldn't be proud ugh*
That's so sadly and funnily true... I also get this kind of scenario. All the time.

I know what you mean. Yeah, sure, I want to be cute but when everybody says the obvious (which is that I am short) it's pretty annoying. But, the good thing is that you will make idols seem tall. ;) I'm sure they like that. =P

Just read it, I feel your pain dude! T-T I'm 151cm and my friends and note it : my little sister, 5year younger than me are taller than me and when I sign for some school you can say semi military, it really pains me to read the requirements, it says 'for a girl at least 155cm' and it's not cute at all if you ask me...
Sorry if I'm disturbing you T-T
