Lee Hi "First Love" Review

In an attempt to strengthen my writing, I've started to write short reviews of albums. These were on another blog but I'm moving them here instead.

Unless you've got a grudge against amazing voices, I don't see how you wouldn't fall in love with Lee Hi's First Love. It's easy to pull a line out and describe her as "a sixteen year old with soulful power vocals" but I'll leave it at that because it's true.

In the world that is kpop, with so many groups copying each other, Lee Hi is extremely refreshing and reminds me that there are idols with true talent. While I appreciate, admire, and praise trainees that spend years perfecting their voices, there just isn't anything like a voice you know was born and not made. She's the holder of authenticity no one else can reach, a real diamond in a pawnshop.

Listening to "Fool For Love" makes me feel like I've just stumbled into a jazz club on a rainy night, only trying to keep dry but coming across an angel sitting on a stool and coddling a mic in the glow of soft candle light.

The best part is, she can only get better. I'm not trying to say teengers don't know what love is, but let her wrestle ith feelings like love over the next few years and I'm sure I'll be blown away into pieces, as this album already has made a few "wow!" cracks in me. There's a definite difference between someone singing about love and having never loved and someone singing and knowing about love and I can't wait to hear her sing it out, loud and proud, with heartbreak or joy. Keep keeping it real, Lee Hi.
