T.O.P, the charismatic rapper of the successful group, BigBang has announced that at the end of this week, he will be enlisting in the army. It comes as a surprise to many fans with this quick announcement of T.O.P’s, real name Choi SeungHyun, who is twenty-six, enlistment. T.O.P will be following fellow YG artist, Se7en, who enlisted March 19th.
When questioned about his enlistment, T.O.P had this to say. “The members have decided to do solo promotions at this time and the thought has been on my mind as of late. With DongWook hyung (Se7en) army enlistment and my experience with “Into the Fire”, I was inspired to follow the lead of my sunbaes.”
T.O.P’s latest film, “The Alumnus”, is currently in post-production and it is unknown whether or not he will be promoting at the end of this year with his fellow co-stars.
“I have thought about the film and the promotions but I believe to further strengthen my mind and self, enlistment will be the best at this time.”
A representative from YG has said that, “This is SeungHyun’s choice and we wish him the best. As the enlistment is 18 months, we are now unsure of BigBang’s future projects but we hope that the fans are understanding of T.O.P’s choice and give him support and love through the enlistment.”
Fellow BigBang members, G-dragon, who has finished the Seoul concerts of his 1st World Tour, Daesung, who is participating in his first solo Japanese tour, Taeyang and SeungRi were asked to give statements but were unable to be reached at the moment of the article publication.
