 the breakdown

traits: "altruistic", routine, emotionally fragile, ambivalent
personality: As the daughter of the president, you can already imagine what Hyorin is like. Kind, sweet, mature and well-behaved. And that's exactly who she is. Well, at least that's what she aims to exude when she's out in public. I'm not going to say that behind closed doors, she's actually a rude, rebellious brat, but when no one's around, Hyorin is definitely much more childish and laid-back. In people's eyes, she is the perfect daughter. She regularly goes to charities and benefits, helps raise money, and volunteers in different programs. However, she only does this as a way to uphold her image. If she really had a choice between relaxing at home, and doing a good deed, this girl would choose the former. It's not like she dislikes doing charitable things, but she's only doing it for selfish purposes- she wants to feel good about herself, and she wants others to see her as a rolemodel. Hyorin knows this herself and she feels guilty for deceiving the public, but it's not like what she's doing is THAT terrible, is it?

Like her father, Hyorin is a hard worker. She doesn't like to half- anything. If she's going to do something, she's going to take time to plan it, and to go over every single detail so that the only outcome is success. How else was she able to become who she is today? Only through determination and hard work was she able to be the Nation's Idol. Control and order mean everything to Hyorin. She doesn't like it when things suddenly change. If there's a plan, you follow through with it. There's no such thing as "last minute changes" to her. You can imagine how simple and routine her everyday life is - she has a plan on how to live and she plans on sticking to it.

So when everything crumbles down and order is thrown out the window, how does Hyorin react? As much as she tries to tell herself that things can be fixed, those are honestly just words and she has no idea how to go about solving anything. Hyorin has had so much control over her own life, that when things go wrong, she doesn't know how to deal with it. She becomes a shell of herself - spouting cliched phrases ("things will get better!" "don't worry!")  that she doesn't even believe herself. She attempts to maintain her composed front, but inside she's terrified about what to do. "Maybe I'll just kill myself." She begins to think of ridiculous, overdramatic solutions, and only until someone calms her down, she will only go deeper and deeper into fear. But like I said, she maintains her calm exterior, so no one really even knows that she's mentally breaking.

In addition, Hyorin's a very ambivalent person. She often finds herself at conflicting points. She doesn't like listening to gut feelings and just jumping in head first, since well, where's the order in that? She needs to think things over, and she often ends up with decisions that both seem equally good or equally bad. Because of this, she often ends up being dependent on others to come up with the final decision and just follows them. Therefore, although she may give off the aura of being headstrong and independant, Hyorin honestly needs people to lean on and to support her. Maybe that's why she feels so comfortable being adored by the public - because she knows they'll be there for her if she ever needs it. So when that is threatened by the corruption of her parents, who's going to tell her what to do?

background: If you needed a word to describe Hyorin's life it would be "privileged". This girl was an only child, brought up by 2 loving, and not to mention, influential parents. Her father was a zealous politician and everybody in Korea knew that it was only a matter of time before he became president, and surprise surprise, in his first election, he had won by a staggering amount of votes. Hyorin's mother on the other hand, was a journalist for the newspaper. Because of the status of her parents, Hyorin had the task of behaving properly at all times, scoring high marks in tests and just being an all-around well-kept person. But also due to the status of her parents, this girl was never really treated like a child, in fact, her parents were usually too busy to spend much time with her, therefore she took care of herself most of the time. However, she understood why her parents were never around, and never held a grudge against them. Or well, even if she did, it wasn't as if she was going to tell them about it.

You would assume that since her father is the president, she would be rolling around in riches. That isn't the case. Before her father won the election, they were just like any other family, maybe a bit wealthier, but it wasn't as if she lived in a huge mansion and had maids and butlers waiting on her 24/7. Because of this, her family is seen as being connected with the public. Hyorin, individually, is viewed as the nation's idol. (Not the singing or dancing kind, just a very popular figure.) The public admire her for being as kind and hardworking as her father, while maintaining her down-to-earth persona. She attends the local university and gets no special treatment from teachers. She lives a fairly regular life, but of course, her face can be seen on television and billboards, while her name would be mentioned at least once every 30 minutes on the radio. Hyorin is pretty much the poster child of the perfect daughter and the spokeswoman for cliche statements like: "work hard! you can do it! don't give up!"

How easy it is for a life to fall apart. Hyorin noticed that her family had been getting more unneeded luxuries. Feeling uneasy, she decided to do some investigating on her own. That was when she stumbled onto her father's bank statements and saw what he was doing. He was transferring government funds into his own account, and dipping into tax payer money for his own benefit. She knew it was only a matter of time before the public found out about this, and she was at a loss on what to do - help her father cover up, or expose him? If this wasn't bad enough, scandalous reports about her mother sleeping around with other high-ups started spreading around. Hyorin didn't know if this was official or just a rumor, but she wouldn't be surprised if it were true. Although her family strived to show the public a happy marriage, Hyorin knew what really happened at home. She would often hear statements like, "you care more about your work than me", or "why are we living like this even when you're the president?" As far as Hyorin could tell, her mother wanted a better life, but her father wanted to stay grounded. Personally, Hyorin felt closer to her father because of his resolve to stay down-to-earth, but with his money laundering, she didn't know anymore. Why did he need that money so badly? Was it greed? Did he want to please his wife? Or did he get into some money troubles? So many questions and she didn't know who to ask.

Hyorin knew her privileged life was about to unravel and the only thing she could do was hyperventilate and crumble mentally. How could her father, whom she admired so much, do this to their family?! And her mother! Hyorin didn't even want to start thinking about her. If all of her family's under-the-table affairs and deals were to be made public, Hyorin didn't know if she would be able to live with all the shame. A part of her wanted to clear her family name, but what was there to clear when they were guilty? If there was nothing to clear, maybe the only thing she could do right now was hide it? As selfish as it sounded, Hyorin enjoyed being the nation's idol, and she didn't want to start being looked down upon. What to do, indeed.

 serendipity

relationship: kim myungsoo is hyorin's childhood friend, and they've been hanging out together before her father became a president. of course, once that happened, the time they spent together decreased dramatically and now the only time they see each other is during university lectures, and even then, they can't talk much because they're both focusing on the class, or hyorin's just surrounded by her adoring fans or bodyguards. (she's the president's daughter! what do you expect?) he's the person that she depends on the most. if she has a dilemma, he's the first person she asks. however she doesn't know if she's confusing dependance with love, but she feels most comfortable around him.
type: myungsoo is the type of guy that likes to act cool, when deep down, he's just a total dork. since he has such a cold exterior, people immediately think of him as hard to approach and therefore they tend to stay away from him. and for some reason, myungsoo finds this to be "cool", so he tends to act aloof and apathetic. even around hyorin, who knows what he's really like, he maintains his cold-hearted facade. but of course, she just ignores this side of him, and he eventually starts acting like his normal childish self again. he also takes care of her from afar. since they have no time to be together, he often sends in sarcastic texts and e-mails to brighten her up. if he were hyorin's boyfriend, he would act the same, except more protective since he knows how dependent she can be.

comments: my brain arughh! haha, i hope the song choice makes sense. i wish i could find a video with subs with decent audio mixing, or without the original vocaloid singing -_-; so i ended up choosing this version since i love it, and i like how it starts of with the piano and goes into the original. and 4:28 always sends chills up my spine. AND, i didn't talk about the bus hijacking because i don't know if that occurs in her current time, but if you want me to, i'll add it to her background :OO And finally, I imagined her to be a headstrong girl, but in the end, I wanted her to be prone to mental instability so e u e i made her this way. x.x
scene req: since i made her emotionally weak, it'd be fine with me if she went insane. LOL.
