Im Yoona: Overrated or Underrated

Im Yoona is an actress, dancer, singer, model, spokes model, host, and presenter. She is the second youngest member of Girls’ Generation, a nine member idol girl group based in the Republic of Korea. Of the girls in the group, Yoona has the most amounts of fans and also the most amounts of anti-fans. Most anti-fans feel that she is overrated. They say that she is not the best looking, is not that good of a singer, and is not that good of a dancer. Most of Yoona’s anti-fans are anti-fans of Girls’ Generation as a whole and/or hold one of the other members as their favorite. Let’s take a look at some of these complaints that these anti-fans have.

1. Yoona is not that good of a singer. Despite my opinion and that of many others, Yoona has stated that she have little confidence in her singing abilities. SM Entertainment, has her listed as a supporting singer. How does that make her overrated as a singer?

2. Yoona is not a good dancer. Again I would depute that claim as she does well in those choreographed dances that the group performs. Hyoyeon not Yoona is listed as the main dancer. Yoona is one of the lead dancers though.

3. Yoona is not the best looking member. I cannot refute or agree with that. How beautiful one appears to another is one hundred percent personal taste. For most people, Yoona has beauty, which is one of the reasons why she is such a popular model.

4. Yoona is not that good of an actress. Yoona was in six television dramas the last three of which she had a leading role. Of those last three she has won six awards and was nominated for another. That should be the end of that discussion.

Yoona may not be the best singer, dancer, or the prettiest in the group, but she does have talent and does have beauty which is not only recognized by her fans, but also by her management/entertainment company as well as the industries in which she works in. I would actually venture to say that what the Yoona anti-fans actually considers as being overrated is in fact, overexposure. For those people, Yoona is like a popular song that is played over and over and over… again. Some people can contain listen to that endlessly, while others may get tired of that song rather quickly. Whether you can listen to the song endlessly or not at all has no bearings on the actual song. Yoona is this way. Whether you like her, love her, or hate her, it has no bearing on who Yoona is or the talents she possess.

For me I wish Yoona all the best in all that she does, because she has spent the last eight years of her life entertaining me and others. I hope to see her many more years as she continues to entertain us.
