JW is a laid-back sort of guy, who rolls with things as they come. However, he is a perfectionist and can be very competitive so does have high expectations of everything, including actions from his friends. He is more shy than most people, so can come across cold and aloof -some even saying he's rude, narrow-minded and egotistical. However, he just keeps to himself and would rather wait to get to know a person than be a "fake" friendly. He loves to laugh and joke around with his friends and can actually be the instigator in pranks/jokes. He's friendly with almost everyone at the company and never short for invitations to go do something.

He is very loyal to his friends and family. He is the type of guy who is thoughtful and caring; always checking on their well-being. The leader, vocalist and main songwriter is his real-life hyung, Jungmin (25.) Jungmin is more shy and tends to rather stay behind the scenes -usually means in the small recording studio in their apartment writing songs or playing games (usually online with Kyuhyun of Super Junior.) Jungmin could be described simply as: introverted, responsible, generous, and hard-working.

Adagio (which means "In slow tempo") debuted in March of 2009 under SM Entertainment as their ballad group. Originally they were going to have members of Super Junior, TRAX, and SHINee sub-unit with Adagio, but decided to hold off and debut strictly the two Hwang brothers as a duo group. However, seeing as Adagio is strictly a ballad duo, they are not as well known as other SM groups, but they do have quite a following in South Korea and Japan (since they released two Japanese singles in 2011.) They have released three mini-albums since their debut and have recorded almost a dozen songs for various OST (together, collaborated with fellow artists, or alone.)

Hyunmi and Minhyuk met a year after she had debuted as a trot singer. They hid their relationship from everyone (including her manager) for almost three years before coming public with the announcement of a wedding. Her agency was adamantly against the idea- firing Minhyuk from his position and blacklisting Hyunmi from apparences. After a year of court battles Hyunmi was able to break her contract and cofounded her own agency with two former labelmates who left after the "injustice." With their history and private life made public, they discouraged their sons from pursuing the industry but once they saw the desire/talent/drive they had relented and fully supports them. 

Hyunmi took a hiatus from the industry when she became pregnant. Minhyuk and Hyunmi chose to move back to Incheon (Hyunmi's hometown) to be closer to her parents so they could help with the baby but decided to stay and raise the boys there. Though she semi-retired from performing she spent half of her time with her agency and spent the other half with her boys- always encouraging them with music (piano, singing, guitar as they got older.) Hyunmi and Minhyuk sent both the boys to international schools so they could learn English/Japanese to be able to succeed as they got older.
