Outline for insertnamehere1 | Let's Write to This Modest Proposal

Genre: Historical Fiction (based on China’s history)

Theme: Space (how you interpret it is up to you)

Title: (up to you)

Description idea:

“I’d rather betray others, than have others betray me.”

                                                             -Cao Cao,

on the false killing of Lu Boshe

                                          (translation from Chinese to English)

Character suggestions:

Main: Tao from EXO-M

Side characters: Anyone from EXO-M (highly recommended), or any China national in the Korean-pop industry. If romance, you can choose either or OC. I normally would prefer OC, but hey, whatever floats your boat, yah?

Questions to expand on:

  • Who is being betrayed by whom
  • Why?

Overall idea:

Tao has idolized Cao Cao’s sense of righteousness and determination for the longest time from his small village in China. In an attempt to be like him, he took up martial arts to hone his discipline, and grew to be an outstanding student. However, the man that Tao has always admired may not turn out to be who Tao thinks he is.

Main plot ideas that must must must be incorporated into the story:

  1. Of course, expand on Tao’s extent of admiration for Cao Cao. It’s not just a little infatuation, but an “OH MY GOD HE’S MY IDOL” kind of thing. Remember, this is before he has gone for martial arts training, so his personality probably isn’t very polite and conservative yet. Think young, childish, maybe even foolish. He’s probably maybe 5 years old, since he started martial arts training at 6 years old.
  2. Go through the speedy growth of Tao as a martial arts student. Try to build on his character as well. Show maybe a little maturity as he grows into his teenage years. But think maybe a little haughty, arrogant at his crazily good skills.
  3. Major plot development here: his village gets stormed by soldiers while he’s at martial arts training. He comes back to find a ruined village and soldiers taking up camp in the village square. He finds his parents’ dead bodies (you can be creative here. Maybe even his childhood sweetheart’s body). He storms into the camp in a rage and takes it out on the nearest soldiers. Not many soldiers are able to hold him off, and the leader comes out of the tent. WHAMMO! Tao’s on his feet. Guess who’s the leader? Oh my, it’s Cao Cao. Somehow Tao’s blackmailed into joining the army and is tasked with the ugly task of assassinating any potential threats to Cao Cao.  By then, all feelings of admiration is gone from Tao and maybe it’s the harsh experience of the events that happened that made Tao conservative.

And it’s your call from there. Who he meets, who he falls in love with, who he ends up hating to no end on his journey in the story is your decision.

Do pay reference to the quote in the story, and put it in the descriptions. It’s a quote that gives you A LOT of freedom, since it can apply to so many situations (wow, I’m so merciful).

Basically, it’s a story of betrayal… and scary journeys… taking place in historical China. Good luck and have fun. Wow it’s a nice plotline. Oh man, oh man, oh man, I wanna write it too. Hahahaha.

You might want to read up on Cao Cao before you start writing. Not all events have to follow history, though. (You may want to slip in a small disclaimer somewhere saying that it’s probably not gonna be following China’s history religiously). Warp history to your advantage! You’re just borrowing the environment and a really big character in history… but no pressure.

Hope you find it okay.
