cher's life is just too hateful. starting from the fact that her cat freaking pissed on the bed, she kept on hating each seconds of her life as many of other hateful things happen to her, such as getting scolded by her landlord because she broke a vase, then having to scream at her neighbor because that dude played annoying metal rock songs so loudly late in the night and she can't ing sleep, and finally when she stepped on a piece of broken vase (that she broke herself), bleeding her foot. awful, is it not? but that's not all of them. what does she hates the most?

kids.

she hates kids.

and she works in a day care center.

"vivienne... get off that rack, sweetie," cher coaxed the 4 year old girl, hugging her waist and lifts her up, winching painfully as the struggling child punched her on the face with her small but powerful fist. cher huffs before putting down the kid, letting her run away as she curses out a few words slowly in alert, in case the kids heard her and bring her into trouble.

"cher oppa, you cursed!" kylie, a 5 year old says, pursing her lips as she looks up at cher. the latter facepalms herself, she remembers this kid who can hear anything, even as slow as a whisper from 5km away.

"kylie honey, it's a bad word, i was wrong to say it," cher explains, "and i'm not oppa, don't call me that."

kylie giggles before waddling away, nodding after she told cher a man should be called oppa. the short haired girl grits her teeth as she watches the girl, not wanting to explode on a 5 year old, a kid younger than her by 16 years.

"great, these kids kept on making me want to bury a hole and die in it," she mutters to herself.

not even half a minute later, trouble calls from behind her when the twins, ria and po, were fighting over a teddy bear in the toys room. "dammit," she mutters again, as she sees the two of the kids slapping and punching each other, while the other kids chanted fight fight fight fight at the sight.

"QUIT IT YOU LITTLE RATS," cher yells, and everything fell silent before it becomes noisier, as all of the children in the room cried, terrified at the loud erupt of cher's angry voice.

(  "you don't yell at kids, cher," vicky had said. repeating it for the 5th time that week. "did you really want to take care of kids?"

"i already wrote in my review that i wasn't fond of kids," cher mutters.

"then why you work here you ."

"because you ing told me to be with you 24/7 you piece of ."

"oh... right."  )

the very next morning, cher arrives at the day care center quite earlier than usual, getting an urgent call from a lady that needed to drop her 2-year-old baby in there, and she groaned loudly upon arriving as she didn't see the sight of the lady anywhere outside. "goddammit, i wasted my time to get here," she says, just about time when the mid-thirties lady showed up with a petite girl, smiling sweetly at cher.

"hey, good morning! i'm here to drop my daughter," she spoke, and cher smiles in relief that she arrived just in time. "i'll take care of your baby girl well," she promises, and hopes that the girl isn't as much of a trouble like the other kids...

"what's her name, miss?" cher asks, holding up a paper to clip onto the girl's shirt as a nametag.

"her name's long... just put ri."

as soon as the lady leaves, more and more parents dropped their children in the day care center, and cher waited  anxiously for a single father that came to drop his child. anxious... you say? well, that guy is a total hottie, of course she'd be nervous about trying to look good in front of him.

just when the man comes, cher was about to greet him, but another caretaker greeted him instead as she was busy holding ri in her arms. she groaned, seeing the guy's son stepped in with a smug smile on her face as he holds his new toy and showed off to the other kids. to be honest with herself, that kid named dave was her least favorite kid to take care of. he was too cocky and naughty.

"jerry," ri calls cher out, and the girl turns to look at her. this kid can talk? she wonders, and laughs a little at the horrible pronounciation of her nickname. she probably heard it from the other caretaker that kept on calling out for her, cher thinks, and  while she changes her diapers, she kept on calling out "jerry" repeatedly.

"share. shaaare, cher, share," cher repeats, nuzzling her nose on the child's tiny nose. the small girl giggled and cups the latter's cheeks, pecking her nose.

and just like that, cher thinks kids aren't that bad. or maybe this kid isn't as bad as the other kids.

"rita, don't throw rocks at people, please?" cher calls out for the long haired girl, and she skips her way towards cher and whines. "dave made fun of my hair! he said i look like a sheep dipped in tomato sauce!"

it was about 2 whole weeks since cher had been taking care of ri. well, ever since she fed the child and she ate whatever she fed her happily, showing her tiny eyesmile and cute clap with her tiny hands and tiny laugh, cher might think she fell in love with the baby. she didn't know she's a er for cute things, but when it's ri, it all makes sense.

and ever since, she started to like kids a bit more.

but not dave.

"dave if you buLLY OTHER PEOPLE AGAIN I WILL HANG YOU UPSIDE DOWN ON THE BALCONY," she starts to yell as the kid was running around and hit the other kids' heads with his stupid robot. cher had this urge to take that robot and break it.

and so she did...

"is this how you treat a 5 year old kid? seriously?" the man that cher had been admiring since her 6 months working in there yelled to her face, making her regret her actions. but oh well, she bets that dave's dad is twice as worse as him. well, like father like son, right? both of them look like douches now that vicky mentioned it, after the man left with her son while insulting the day care center. both of them didn't drop by there anymore, apparently.

"are you sad about it? the man you've been crushing on for 6 months left because you broke his son's robot," vicky asks. cher shrugs and chews her chewing gum, flapping the wet towel before placing it in the dryier.

"nah, i just realized he wore pink turtle necks everyday. i think he's gay," she mutters, spitting the chewing gum in the trash can.

"pink doesn't determine his uality," vicky snorts. "but turtle necks do," cher explains smugly, "and i realized that my neighbor is quite cute."

"the one that blasts metal rock in the middle of the night, seriously?" vicky asks and the other laughs a little, grinning to herself. "he's not that bad, he apologized and gave me instant noodles yesterday night," she says proudly before she leaves to get ri as she hears the girl crying  in her crib.

ah, so in love. cher is in love, and it's such a bliss.

so in love she started to see ri as her own daughter, imagining her married life with kai, her neighbor. ((((note: idk who to put LET IT JUST BE KAI BYE)))) a few days ago, the guy knocked on her door again and gave her chinese food takeaway, and how flattered she was upon receiving her favorite food from the cute guy next door out of sudden.

"ah, your daddy's gonna be back soon," cher whispers to ri, and she laughed to herself imagining how she will greet her 'husband' home with a kiss and-

"JSGKHJDLKFRKLFTHJK," she spazzed, almost dropping ri.

"jerrrry," ri mutters, waddling towards the older with a doll in her hand. cher looks at the girl and kneels down to her level, smiling softly. "yes?"

"dollie phor jerry," the child mutters, making cher laugh a bit at her attempt to speak. she got better at talking after 2 months under her care, as she taught her how to talk. a good mother figure, no?

"thank you," cher replies, taking the barbie doll and lifts the little girl up, handing her to vicky as she was busy with laundry. ri was quite attached to cher though, she whined and cried to get back to cher but vicky dragged her away to another room.

cher glances at the doll, a slight smile spread to her face. well... since the day she got close to ri, she got even closer to the kids. before this, handling them were troublesome and depressing, but ever since she opened her heart up for the petite girl, she thought differently on kids. maybe ri awoken her motherly traits, she wasn't sure, but it became different.

but what shocked her was that, 2 weeks later, ri's mother no longer brought her to the day care center anymore. she was told that they got her a babysitter, and cher became so devastated that vicky and kai had to bring her out for a dinner to cheer her up.

"my child..." she cries one night, curling on the bed with a photo of ri in her grip.

day by day passed, and none of them were the same without the petite girl. it's different without a tiny mouth to feed, the delicate fingers gripping onto her shoulders and made her feel protective, the sparkling eyes that looks up at her with full of admiration. it's different, without the 2-year-old miracle named ri. well, cher thought that she's an angel sent from above who got rid of her slight hatred for children, and brought her closer to the kids.

"children are a blessing," kai says one day, eyelashes batting slowly in cher's visions as the guy gorgously drink his hot chocolate. they were at a cafe, and kai was simply there when he asked her to accompany her to the library (much to cher's surprise, considering that she thought that he's the metal rock of a person rather than the book nerd person).

they borrowed some books, and cher grabbed a children poem book to read for the kids at the day care center. they loved it when she reads them a book, anything despite not understanding the words she says.

"children are the ultimate gift to two people who love each other and the ultimate inconvenience to parents that don't. there is no bigger responsibility, and yet a relationship with a child can bear the greatest rewards. children intuitively know when they are wanted and when they are not. the way that they raised from the cradle will affect the people they will become. there is a famous saying that children spell love T I M E. there may be many compelling reasons why you cannot be with your children but none of them can replace time. it is gone forever," kai reads out the foreword in the poem book, and for a moment, all that cher thought of was ri.

"i... gotta go kai. i have something to do," she said before snatching the book and runs away with it. her only aim was the day care center, where she met the girl. where she started to love the girl and began protecting her. she gave her something that no one else could, and cher had to get it back. get her back in her arms... get the child back to her.

once arriving, the children were gathered up at the center of the room, while vicky reads out a story book to them. some of them already fell asleep, some were spacing out, and of course some were listening. cher looked around, and was devastated to find that there's no ri around. of course... there shouldn't be.

"jerry." she hears the familiar voice calling out for her. impossible. it's just her imagination, she thinks. but when she turns around, there they are. the lady and ri in her hands, smiling happily at cher.

"ri!" the latter gapes, hugging ri close before pulling away, flushing lightly. "i'm sorry, madam, didn't mean to, heh," she shrugs, and the woman laughs softly. "it's alright. we're back today, the babysitter made her cry a lot, i couldn't bear seeing that. but with you jerry, she likes it with you," the lady says and cher happily grabbed the girl from her mother's grip, hugging her tight.

"she's attached to me," cher laughs. the lady smiles. "you can be her second mother, jerry."

yeah, about that... my name's still not jerry.
