Life In Seoul
Hello everyone! Well I just arrived in Seoul on the 9th which was the coldest day of the year! -13 degrees!!! But somehow I think I was too excited to feel cold xD So far Ive been really enjoying myself and right now I have the flu cause its so cold! Believe me when I say this...Korea is a beautiful place! My university is in the mountains! So I literally have to climb up two steep slopes to get to the institute!
My first day and I got lost. I had left my dorm to go and find a 3-pin plug cause in Korea they only use 2-pin plugs and my laptop needed to be charged. So out I went in search of this elusive plug and each shop I went to had only 2-pin plugs and I had alot of difficulties explaining to them what I wanted. So I basically wandered around for a good hour in search of it before giving up and returning to the dorm. The next day my friend came over to pick me up and take me to the institute cause Ive never used public transport before >.<. I bought a T-card from a nearby Mini Shop. This is basically a small pass you top up with money and use on public transport. It was my first time on a bus and it was fun! On Monday,I got lost again. You see on Sunday most of the things were closed so it was pretty dark but on Monday, everything was open so the lights made everything look different. I finally stopped an ahjussi and asked for help. He didnt know where I had to go so he took me to this couple who were a halmoni and harabuji. I showed them my address on my phone and the halmoni took me to my dorm. I bowed 90-degrees to her in thanks and she was really happy and patted my shoulder :D.
The ahjumma's and ahjussi's love me here for some reason. My American friend has had weird experiences with them but on Tuesday morning as I shivered in the cold, trying to catch a cab, this ahjumma walks up to me and hands me this paper. I looked at her, confused, cause I thought maybe she wanted me to hold it whilst she put on her glove. She smiled at me and asked in Korean "Are you American?" I said "No..Pakistani" [also in Korean],she beamed and told me I was pretty [:D!!!]. I asked her where to catch a taxi and we communicated in broken Korean for a bit before she stayed with me for like 20 minutes, trying to haul down a cab. Finally we found one and she told the ahjussi that I was a foreigner and needed to go to SNU Hospital [Never go here...its an absolute RIP OFF!]
The taxi ahjussi also asked if I was American [Seriously..why!?] and then I said no..Pakistan...he laughed and greeted me in my mother tongue and it was so cute! He even gave me candy xD!! The trip was really long and cost alot too cause the hospital is in North of Seoul and I live in the South of Seoul.
My Korean classes are going really well. My teacher even asked me if I had studied Korean before and I said no. She was like "THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME!?" I said...yes? She was like "Oh..youre good!" I was really happy at that! I think Im catching on well and the language is not that difficult and its fun to learn. After my first class on monday,I and my class mates went to have Korean BBQ! It was really yummy~~
Fanco is a cafe on campus and I go there almost everyday~ So yesterday I was sitting there and this lady comes and sits next to me. After a bit she asked "Hello...do you need help with that?" [I had been studying Korean]. I was like "Oh!? You speak English!?" And I quickly befriended her. Her name is Yuri and works at the university! She was reallyyy sweet and fun. After class she took me with her to meet this Pakistani friend of hers and on the way we stopped by at this really famous ddeokboki place in Gwanak. Ddeokboki is SOOOOOO spicy oh my God! My eyes watered after the first bite. We also had this fishcake soup called Eomok. It was delicious! Here's a picture!
Today I went to Gangnam [my first time using the subway] and bough a Korean sim for my phone~ In the station I saw a Tony Moly outlet next to a Missha one. So basically JYJ next to TVXQ~ I took pictures but I havent uploaded them yet. Today wasnt very eventful cause I have a flu and cough >.< so I havent been able to do much =.=.
Well thats all for now...and here's a selca from my arrival in Seoul. I changed my hairstyle :D
