[Review] The First Collage by Yang Yoseob

It's been a long time since I have reviewed an album, not since Taetiseo's Twinkle album. All of you know I'm doing it for Yoseob and because I'm bored. I'm certainly won't be bias over Yoseob. It is different from music. Okay, so good things first!

1.) Yoseob's album has been released!

2.) Yoseob looks absolutely gorgeous with the album photos.

3.) This album just screams Junseob.

4.) Yoseob has finally gotten his solo.

5.) Album produced by Junhyung.

I'm out of the good things, so let's go with the listening, reviewing and everything. Now, the real question is, Can Yoseob finally go solo without the voices of other members or not? I'm not to judge,  but let's hear his album first.

1.) Caffeine  Featuring Junhyung

I must say the beginning surprised me. The teaser didn't show any of it, of course I understand that, since teasers highlight the chorus. There was a hint of an auto-tune and I didn't expect that he would just.. say it first. And then after the introduction, boom, he starts singing. It's not something I expected. I just hope that since it was the main song, I had expected that it would show off his vocals and high notes. I'm not sure if anyone notices it, but Yoseob rarely makes the high note he does in Soom or in I remember. It was one of those things that made Yoseob as a remarkable singer. A burst of that voice, it really was heavenly. Now that he's rarely doing it anymore it's sad.

Anyway, this song features an acoustic guitar. I hope this is not the song that Yoseob will dance to. There's the guitar. It's time for him to use that trump card up his sleeve. Please Cube, don't be stupid. I'm not watching the MV yet. I really don't want to.

This is one of those songs that'll grow to me, especially the part that about, "like a caffeine..." It's not certainly something that you'll like immediately after listening, but it's decent.

2. Do What You Were Doing

Initially, not liking anything in Yoseob's album, this was very nice to listen. I think I preferred this one out of all the tracks in Yoseob's album. It makes me remember Happy Birthday with it's happy tunes and melodic voice.  I really felt that Cube played safe, let Yoseob sing the things he had been singing before. I like this a lot. It also makes me think that this fits to be an OST.

3. Still I / EVen then I

One of the tracks that shock me the most. It seems seductive, sultry, I guess that fits more. Falsettos mostly. I'm not sure if I like it. I think you have to listen to it more and play it all over again. You'll grow to like it.  It's not bad, not at all. It's a bit good, but it's somehow plain.  But it is unique, this kind of tune to fit Yoseob's voice.

4. You don't know

I like this track. It's similar with Do What You Were Doing. For me, Yoseob's voice fits with happy songs mostly. It's a happy song. If it's to be compared, it's like The Day I confessed by Jo Kwon. I don't know the lyrics yet, but it appears like that. I hope he will be able to showcase this. These songs appears to be cute in his boyish charms.

5. Look at Me Now

I'm pretty sure Yoseob will showcase this. It's dance pop. Yoseob will dance to this. I'm betting you a fic. Now that I'm hearing it again, it sounds quite nice actually. It makes me dance. I can't say anything about this song that much. I can't describe it anyway.

Overview:

The album's decent, not that great, not that bad. Cube played it safe, which was disappointing since Yoseob's the first person they're making a solo. I just wished they made risks; I'm sure with Yoseob -- he could have done great. The album was disappointing for me. They could have showed off Yoseob's vocals, his high notes, but I didn't hear anything of it. Where's the high note? All I hear are similar to the sounds he made in On Rainy Days, but it's not even close to that.

Will I recommend this album?

As a Yoseob bias, YES. As a KPOP listener, I'm in the middle of no and yes. I'm not sure really. Think of it as something like this, If I were to compare GD's One of a Kind Album, Kim Sunggyu's Another Me, and Yoseob's album, no doubt that GD will win everyday. It's like, GD's album is golden. Sunggyu's album is just fine since it's Wooliment, and everything that Wooliment produce is good. Yoseob's album is just..good, but plain. It's something you have to listen a few more times to like. Still, I'm not buying this album. I'm sorry, Yoseob.

Can Yoseob go solo without the other members?

YES. Yes, he can. This assumption is without any biases. Yoseob can do it. The OST he makes: Cherish that Person & No, the Omma, and the collaborations, especially I remember.

HOWEVER.

Right now, he can't. I've seen the boy fend off in Immortal Song. As much as I want him to win, he's doing weak. You have to take risks, and risks-- he's not taking any of them. His voice is highlighted by the other members. His voice do greatly. But I think this  quality of music(I'm sorry Junhyung) doesn't match his voice, it's not him, and it'll just take time to grow.

So sorry for Yoseob recording at a bad throat. Maybe that's the reason for this album.

Anyway, after this, let's vote for Yoseob. At least get him a one. We can do this, B2uties. :D Too bad for Sunggyu. He's having a hard time climbing up the charts. I'm sure Yoseob will, too. THen again, I had been wrong about Beautiful Night. B2uties are just pure godsend for Beast. Go Yoseob!

Oh just this rant:

Why does Junseob have to be so sweet right now when I'm feeling angsty I can't even write a fic about Junhyung being so bad 'cause he just produced an album for Yoseob and my god, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.    ;A;

unnie... you just said everything I thought about the album.

I agree with your reviews of the songs.
I think Junhyung think of his wifey's(Yes. Seobbie is Junnie's wife)album as a new step of him being/becoming a composer.
I also think that Jun wanted to try new diff. things, so is Seob.
I don't know but I wish they work on the album a little more.
Like what you said, It's good but plain.
I also thought that I think they didn't have a good timing recording the songs. It's the time when Yoseob's throat isn't well. But then again, I think Yoseob didn't want to hit high notes and tried to show his other skills.
The tune of the songs sounds like the same to me.(Sorry Junnie :( )

I miss Seobie hitting high notes as well :(
btw unnie, did you know that Yoseob requested to have a kissing scene?
