Chinese class frustrations (ㅎ_ㅎ)
Hi lovelies.
This'll mostly be complaining, so if you want to peace out now, feel free. It's just that with what's happening on top of me being sick for over a week, I need to vent people other than my housemates about my Chinese class here at uni.
Not to sound arrogant, but I am way too advanced for my current class. Heck, if I'm being honest, my problem started before the class even started. You see, this is my third year studying Chinese so I should be in the third level class, right? Wrong. They got rid of the third level last year and didn't tell anyone. I kinda shrugged it off because I assumed their classes would still be kind of advanced. So I took the entry exam for them to figure out if I should be in the first or second level. It was a piece of cake, but they didn't have an oral part. No interview, no nothing, which I think is really dumb. I'm so comfortable speaking Chinese and they didn't even give me a chance to show that.
Anyway, after taking the test, they put me in their second year. Again, I didn't think it'd be that bad. Maybe some review, but British classes would be more advanced than American ones because they start languages earlier, right? I was so wrong. The instant I spoke on the first day I should've known. The teacher asked us to intoduce ourselves and since no one else out of the eighteen of us wanted to talk, I volunteered. Before I started, I asked her what I thought was a first year question:
你想我们说我们中文的名字还是我们英文的名字? Would you like us to say our Chinese names or our English names?
You should have seen the looks I got; everyone was really surprised. When I talked to one of the British students after class, he said he'd thought he was in the wrong class when I spoke. And that's without really practicing all summer so I know my tones were off. Then I saw the lessons we'd be learning. I think my eyes kinda bugged out. Second year? Pfff, I was doing half the stuff we're learning now in my first year, like grammar rules I've already internalized. What do they do during first year!?
Before I sound too snotty, let me say this. If they'd thought I was too advanced for their class, they could've arranged for me to take Chinese at another university, like Oxford. Yes, I mean that OXFORD, as in where Tolkien and C.S Lewis taught. But did they? No! Admitedly, I found out later Oxford doesn't offer Chinese (=P) but I still could be attending Chinese somewhere else where it's more my level. They'd still get their money so I don't see why they can't send me somewhere I don't feel like beating my head against the wall at how mind-numbingly easy the class is. Chinese is my future, but I can literally feel my mind regressing so you all can imagine why my agitation is higher than most people's would be in this situation.
Ugh...For those of you who actually took the time to read through my rant, if there are any, thanks. I feel like I complain too much, but I really needed to get this off my chest...
I guess I should try to find some positive aspects of this right? Unfortunately, the only thing I can really come up with makes me sound like completely boy-crazy, which makes my bookworm, nerdy soul shudder, but I think y'all will understand. So, in my class (because they ended up splitting us up because there were too many of us), me and a British guy are the only non-Asians out of nine students. The others are mostly from Hong Kong or Malaysia, with one kinda cute, nice Chinese-British guy. Anyway, I specifically noticed two of my classmates, whose names I still don't know so I shall make up.
The first one, who I have dubbed Hen.li, looks like Henry Lau and Yang Yoseob had a kid. Not kidding, at all. Just close your eyes and imagine it: handsome baby face and big eyes. I just wanna hug him.

I'm not sure if any of you will be familiar with the next celeb since he's Cpop. His name is Show Luo, a Taiwanese actor, MC, and singer. Seriously, he's adorable and hilarious. If you want a look, check out his show 100%. SHINee, SJM, and Lee Minho have been on it a few times. Anyway, my classmate's a little darker, but he's got the same facial structure, hair, and beautiful eyes.
Anyway, I guess I'll go write the next update for my DBSK story now that I've got that annoyance mostly out of my system. Again, if you've read all this (bless your heart), thanks. Saranghae, my AFF family.
